Virgin Galactic will not reach space in May after all, reports another quarterly loss

LAS CRUCES – Virgin Galactic has conducted flights of its carrier aircraft, VMS Eve, as recently as last week, but the spacecraft VSS Unity will not attempt its next space flight this month as previously planned.
During a conference call Monday to announce its first quarter results for 2021, Spaceport America's anchor tenant said the next test flight of its passenger space plane remained under evaluation.
The company plans four flights for its final test phase before opening commercial flight service from its base of operations at the southern New Mexico spaceport, the first of which it attempted in December.
That flight was aborted safely after engine trouble the company said Monday was caused by electromagnetic interference, a problem it reportedly identified in January and has since corrected.
