By far, the most vocal criticism from the “squad” has come from Ms. Omar and Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Ms. Omar, a practicing Muslim, has lambasted Israel for responding to the violence perpetrated against its citizens during the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

“Israeli airstrikes killing civilians in Gaza is an act of terrorism. Palestinians deserve protection. Unlike Israel, missile defense programs, such as Iron Dome, don’t exist to protect Palestinian civilians. It’s unconscionable to not condemn these attacks on the week of Eid,” said the Minnesota Democrat.

A San Francisco pastor has been elected as the first openly transgender bishop in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

The Rev Megan Rohrer is currently pastor of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, a small progressive congregation in San Francisco.

Rohrer, who goes by the pronouns of 'he' and 'they', will head up the Sierra Pacific Synod of the ELCA.

Michigan judge Jeffrey Middleton’s virtual courtroom is getting quite the reputation — it seems to be a magnet for boneheaded defendants making epic blunders over Zoom.

The first time Judge Middleton’s Zoom courtroom went viral was when a prosecutor noticed something was amiss during a hearing in an assault case, and it turned out that defendant was appearing at the hearing FROM THE VICTIM’S HOUSE, despite having a no-contact order. In that case, Judge Middleton immediately revoked bail, and had the defendant taken into custody.

The second time a Michigan man was set to be sentenced after entering a plea for having no insurance and driving with a suspended license. He appeared in court, from the inside of car… in the driver’s seat… and yes, he still had a suspended license.

The latest virtual snafu happened when a defendant logged into an arraignment hearing with an unfortunate moniker — Buttfucker 3000. And, yeah, Judge Middleton was NOT pleased:

“Your name’s not Buttfucker 3000, you yo-ho, logging in to my court with that as your screenname.” said the judge, later adding, “What kind of idiot logs into court like that?”

The defendant, Nathaniel Saxton, was momentarily kicked out of the virtual courtroom. When he returned he apologized and explained that his sister set up the account, using that screen name as an inside joke.

Democrats and Palestinians alike are slandering Israel through false narratives surrounding the pending Sheikh Jarrah evictions and Temple Mount riots. The Biden administration should respond to the increase in Palestinian violence by threatening to withhold additional funding to the Palestinians and by walking away from the Vienna negotiations with Iran. But given that nine Senate Democrats have signed a letter calling the Biden administration to reopen the PLO office in D.C. as well as the U.S. consulate to the Palestinians in eastern Jerusalem, appeasement abounds in the Democratic camp. Unless the U.S. pivots away from seeking a diplomatic breakthrough with Iran and the Palestinian Authority at all costs, it will continue to stoke the violence plaguing Israel.

A group of Senate Democrats is urging the Biden administration to follow through on its pledge to reopen the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s office in Washington, in addition to the US consulate in eastern Jerusalem.

The letter, organized by Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), praised the Biden administration for its recent moves to “repair” US-Palestinian relations and to restore “vital economic and humanitarian assistance” to the West Bank and Gaza Strip that had been cut under the Trump administration. This funding includes $75 million in bilateral aid, $150 million in funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and $15 million in coronavirus relief.

We have some unfortunate news today to report out of Florida, where a Biglaw partner was found dead in the water near his beachfront home this past weekend.

Douglas A. Wright, 60, the operations and finance partner of Holland & Knight’s office in Tampa, Florida, was found floating in the water just off Clearwater Beach on Sunday. While the medical examiner’s office has not yet determined the cause of his death, the firm said it is believed he died of a suspected cardiac event while swimming.
