Magnetic field correlates with the heat of a body, this is seen throughout the solar system.
Toroidal magnetic field occurs due to circular current pattern , this is immutable physics.
These 2 things correlate. Hotter rock means lower resistance to current.
I don't think the field will flip. I think it's purely a function of the planet cooling much faster than current theories predict
