Biden Walks Away From Question About Rising Prices For Americans

President Joe Biden ignored a question from a reporter about rising prices in the U.S. and simply walked away.

The 46th President spoke at a press conference Wednesday and was asked by a reporter, “should Americans be worried about inflation, sir?” Biden turned and walked away.

Americans have experienced an increase in gas prices since March when the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ and their allies’ announced a decrease in oil production, according to The New York Times (NYT).

Saudi Arabia announced it would decrease its oil production by one million barrels a day — the equivalent of about 1 percent of world supply — to about 8.1 million barrels a day, the NYT reported. Saudi Arabia was originally producing 11 million barrels of oil a day, according to the report.

Rising prices across the country have fueled worries of potential inflation in the future. The increases, partially fueled by non-existent interest rates and record government spending, could lead to inflation that the U.S. has not seen in decades, experts say.

Peter Schiff, the chief economist and global strategist of Euro Pacific Capital, told the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF), “People are going to be paying higher insurance, they’re going to be paying higher property taxes, local tax, utility rates are going to go way up.”

“The 100% cause of inflation is the government … It’s when the government spends money that it doesn’t collect in taxes and then the Federal Reserve monetizes the resulting deficits by printing money,” he said.

Henry Olsen, a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and a columnist at The Washington Post, also told the DCNF, “in the short term, consumers can expect to see rising prices across the board.”

“I expect in the next few months people will be getting sticker shocked in virtually all aspects of their life.”

GOP lawmakers call upon the CDC to turn over all communications with teachers' unions since Jan. 20

Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, James Comer of Kentucky and Virginia Foxx of North Carolina signed the letter to the CDC director.

Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, James Comer of Kentucky and Virginia Foxx of North Carolina are calling for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to turn over any documents and communications with teachers' unions since Jan. 20, 2021.

"Emails obtained by Americans for Public Trust reportedly show that CDC officials—including you—were in regular contact with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) in the weeks leading up to the CDC issuing guidance for the re-opening of schools on February 12, 2021," the lawmakers wrote in their letter to CDC Director Rochelle Walensky.

"The CDC has since acknowledged that it provided the AFT and other special interest unions, like the National Education Association, with nonpublic, draft copies of the guidance for their feedback. These unions took advantage of their special access, with some AFT requests being incorporated into the CDC's guidance nearly word for word," the lawmakers wrote.

The Republican legislators request any documents and communications pertaining to CDC guidance to schools, including communications with people or entities outside of the CDC.

They also seek "documents and communications referring or relating to CDC's policy regarding ex parte communications during the formulation of public health guidance."

Biden urges parents to get children vaccinated after CDC backs Pfizer jab for kids as young as 12

President Joe Biden is making his push to get children vaccinated against Covid-19, now authorized for kids 12 and older, dismissing their low risk of serious illness in hopes of stopping its spread to more vulnerable age groups.

“This is one more giant step in our fight against the pandemic,” Biden told reporters on Wednesday, after a CDC panel voted to recommend use of Pfizer-BioNTech's Covid-19 vaccine in 12- to 15-year-olds. The shot was already available to anyone 16 and older, and the FDA on Monday gave emergency authorization to expand eligibility down to the age of 12.

CDC Director Can’t Give Data Showing It’s Unsafe for Vaccinated People to Unmask, Says Guidance Will Be Updated ‘Very Soon’

During an interview aired on Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Cuomo Primetime,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky couldn’t point to any data that says that it’s unsafe for fully vaccinated people to stop wearing masks and live their normal lives and stated that the agency is “looking forward to updating our guidance very soon.”

Host Chris Cuomo asked, “What data do you have that suggests you need to go slow before you let people completely unmask and live their lives if they’ve gotten the vaccine? I know you’re waiting for the data to say it’s safe, but what data do you have that says it’s unsafe?”

Walensky responded, “Well, you know, we know the data are emerging, have been emerging, with regard to the variants, specifically the U.K. variant, the Brazil variant, which is increasing here in the United States, the South Africa variant, now we have variants coming from India as well. So, we know those data are forthcoming. They’ve been emerging through the literature. With those variants here, we do want to make sure that those data are going to be out and demonstrate that our vaccines will work, and I’m looking forward to updating our guidance very soon.”

Videos: Colombian Police Deploy Stun Grenades Against Anti-Government Protesters

Thousands of Colombians have been taking to the streets to protest against the policies of Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez, highlighting their discontent after the government proposed tax increases amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Riot police stationed near the Plaza de Bolivar in Bogotá, Colombia, deployed a series of stun grenades late Wednesday against a bevy of protesters, marking the latest escalation in tensions with local authorities.

Video captured by Sputnik correspondent Wyatt Reed documents multiple service members walking out onto the plaza and deploying a variety of stun grenades, effectively prompting protesters to disperse onto nearby streets.

Closures extending for at least five blocks were implemented around Colombia's Capitolio Nacional, which serves as the headquarters for both chambers of the country's congressional lawmakers.

Forces with Colombia's National Police were later seen on department-issued motorcycles attempting to corral demonstrators who had left the plaza in an effort to get away from the tear gas.

Earlier, reports surfaced detailing that dozens had been killed in the wake of ongoing protests, and that hundreds had disappeared, a scenario all too familiar with those living in South America and abroad.

Rallies in Colombia have been held since late April, after the federal government proposed an increase in gas prices and utility bills as part of a tax reform proposal. Although the Colombian president later indicated that the legislative reform would not be imposed, demonstrations have continued, underscoring everyday Colombians' outrage at the country's politicians.

Student organizations are also taking the opportunity to demand a review on the dissolution of the riot police, the demilitarization of cities and calling for punishment against authorities who have killed protesters, among other demands.

Israel rejects Hamas truce offer; ministers vote to intensify Gaza strikes

PM informs security cabinet that he has turned down proposal for ceasefire on 'mutual basis' made via Russia; cabinet member says campaign 'far from over,' as 'whatever we don’t do now, we will have to do in six months or a year'

The security cabinet on Wednesday night approved a plan to intensify military attacks on Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in the Gaza Strip, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed its members that Israel has officially rejected a Hamas proposal for a ceasefire.

Israel dismissed the offer of a truce made earlier in the day via the Russian foreign ministry, which quoted a senior Hamas official as saying that the Islamist group was ready to halt attacks on a "mutual basis."

"The campaign is still far from over," a cabinet member said. "Whatever we don’t do now, we will have to do in six months or a year from now."

The members of the cabinet were also asked to approve operational plans for the coming days.

"This it will not end in the next few days," said a cabinet member.

"Israel will not stop and has no interest in stopping. It is all moving in the right direction. We will act until they admit that opening fire was a mistake, just as Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah did after the Second Lebanon War in 2006,” he said.

"When we have hit all our targets and the other side has still not surrendered, we will launch a ground operation even though we do not seek it."

Senior officials also said that the IDF had not been taken by surprise by Hamas' capabilities in the round of fighting.

"We were not surprised, neither by the scale of the rockets nor by their capabilities," one said.

"More than 1,000 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel and a third of them fell inside Gaza. Of the remaining 700, half fell in open areas and 90% of the remaining 350 or so rockets were intercepted.”
