The DHS on Friday issued a terrorism advisory warning that violent “domestic extremists” may exploit the easing of Covid restrictions to plan new attacks.

The DHS also admitted that the agency has zero information to indicate a specific, credible plot.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a new domestic terrorism advisory that is active through August 13, 2021 – JUST BECAUSE.

“Ideologically-motivated violent extremists fueled by perceived grievances, false narratives, and conspiracy theories continue to share information online with the intent to incite violence,” the DHS National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) bulletin reads.

There is no specific threat, but the DHS is issuing the terrorism advisory anyway to keep the police state going.

“The Secretary of Homeland Security has issued a new National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin regarding the current heightened threat environment across the United States. The Homeland is facing threats that have evolved significantly and become increasingly complex and volatile in 2021. These threats include those posed by domestic terrorists, individuals and groups engaged in grievance-based violence, and those inspired or influenced by foreign terrorists and other malign foreign influences. Social media and online forums are increasingly exploited by these actors to influence and spread violent extremist narratives and activity. Such threats also are exacerbated by the impacts from the ongoing global pandemic.” the bulletin reads.

“Today’s terrorism-related threat landscape is more complex, more dynamic, and more diversified than it was several years ago,” Secretary Mayorkas said in a statement to CBS News. “We know that providing timely and useful information to the public is critical as we all work together to secure the homeland.”

Texas AG Sues Biden Administration Over ‘Power Grab’ to Rescind Healthcare Funding

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Friday announced he filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over its decision to rescind a Medicaid waiver extension that would provide billions of dollars to state hospitals.

When federal officials in April rescinded the extension, they said Texas can re-apply when the waiver extension expires in 2022. Liz Richter, the acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said the Trump administration “did not go through the full federal rulemaking process” and then rescinded the waiver.

Describing President Joe Biden’s decision as a “power grab,” Paxton said on Friday that the bid to stip Texas’s 1115 Medicaid waiver extension would prevent “stable funding for providers of healthcare for children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.”

“Not only does this violate agency regulations and threaten to rip a $30 billion hole in Texas’s budget, it was clearly intended to force our state into inefficiently expanding Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” Paxton said in a statement. “This would be a disaster for our state, and yet President Biden seems intent on thrusting his bloated model of government on everyone—including Texas.”

In a lawsuit (pdf) filed against the federal government, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Paxton’s office said Texas offers Medicaid coverage to around 4.3 million people. The lawsuit is asking the court to declare the April letter that removed the extension as “invalid” and allow the Medicaid waiver to remain in place.

If the judge doesn’t grant the extension, the Texas Healthcare Transformation and Quality Improvement Program expire on Sept. 30, 2022, according to the suit.

The Epoch Times has contacted HHS for comment.

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, meanwhile sent a letter to Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), saying federal health officials are committed to providing Texas with a new waiver extension.

“We’re trying to make sure that we’re transparent and we show accountability, because we have to make sure we’re following the law,” he said, according to the Houston Chronicle. “And we’re working with your leadership in the state and along with your delegation, try to make sure that as Texas moves forward, if it wants to continue the waiver, we’re going to be working with you to make sure we can see that happen.

Paxton, a Republican, has filed several lawsuits against the Biden administration since President Joe Biden took office in January, including one (pdf) in April against the federal government’s new procedures over deportations of illegal immigrants, one that sued Biden for “disregarding COVID-19 rules” at the border, and several others.

US Embassy in Moscow Temporarily Resumes Halted Services

MOSCOW—The U.S. Embassy in Moscow said Friday it will temporarily resume some of the consular services it had halted earlier due to a Russian ban on hiring local residents.

The embassy said last month that the ban forced it to reduce its consular workforce by 75 percent and starting May 12, it would only provide emergency U.S. citizen services and a very limited number of immigrant visas in case of life-or-death emergencies.

It said non-immigrant visa processing for non-diplomatic travel would cease and it would stop offering routine notarial services, consular reports of births abroad, and passport renewal services for the foreseeable future.

On Friday, however, the embassy announced that it will resume “routine U.S. citizen services,” including passport services, consular reports of birth abroad, and limited notarial services, as well as immigrant visa processing for priority and urgent cases, through July 16 after the Russian government informed it of the “intent to postpone” the hiring ban.

Later Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the United States has until Aug. 1 to comply with the ban. “This matter is fully and irreversibly closed,” she said.

Halting consular services leaves Russian businessmen, exchange students, and romantic partners adrift because they won’t be able to obtain visas in Russia.

Moscow has moved to ban the U.S. Embassy and consular offices from hiring Russian and third-country nationals as part of its retaliation to a set of new U.S. sanctions imposed over Russian interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election and involvement in the SolarWind hack of U.S. federal agencies—activities that Russia has denied.

The United States ordered 10 Russian diplomats out, targeted dozens of companies and people, and imposed new curbs on Russia’s ability to borrow money. Russia quickly retaliated by ordering 10 U.S. diplomats to leave, blacklisting eight current and former U.S. officials, and tightening requirements for U.S. Embassy operations.

32 House Republicans Demand Pelosi, Schumer Reopen U.S. Capitol to the Public

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), joined by 31 members of the Republican Conference, sent a letter Friday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), demanding the Capitol be open for the public to access without restriction.

In a letter, the Republican members of Congress requested for the public to regain access to the national Capitol without “restrictions that require visitors to be on a preapproved list,” including letting the House and Senate office buildings be open so the “American people could easily access their elected representatives.”

The letter from the group of Republicans asked for Pelosi and Schumer to “lift COVID-19 restrictions limiting public access to the United States Capitol.”

“With official business visits allowed at the U.S. Capitol as of April 26, 2021, and at the House Office Buildings on April 29, 2021, it seems only natural that the next step would be to open the Capitol,” the group states.

The Republicans believe it is well “past time to return to pre-COVID normalcy” with the recent Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updating their restrictions for Americans who are vaccinated, the public should be allowed “to enter the Capitol without being on a preapproved list.”

Brooks, who is leading the charge, said Pelosi and Schumer had put enough restrictions on the Capitol, which goes against “the First Amendment to the Constitution,” which allows Americans the “right to petition their government for redress of their grievances.”

“America has historically prided ourselves on transparency and easy citizens access to government institutions,” Brooks said. The Republican from Alabama called the Democrats’ persistence to keep people out of the Capitol “shameful.” He continued to say, “[e]specially when states are lifting restrictions and the CDC is recommending fully-vaccinated Americans return to pre-COVID normalcy.”

Brooks believes Pelosi and Schumer are depriving Americans of the First Amendment Freedom of Speech rights along with the First Amendment right to petition their government. While at the same time, the Capitol remains to be inaccessible.

“As is often the way with Socialists, they don’t give a twit about denying citizens their First Amendment rights to make their voices heard,” Brooks states. “I, and the signers of this letter, demand Pelosi and Schumer protect and defend First Amendment rights by lifting Capitol access restrictions.”

European Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Antiquities Trafficking

Authorities seized in 2020 nearly 60,000 illegally trafficked cultural artifacts at European border checkpoints, arrested 67 suspects and opened more than 300 investigations in the fifth edition of Operation Pandora that was launched in 2016.

Running between 1 June and 31 October 2020, “Pandora V” saw the involvement of customs and law enforcement authorities from 31 countries. Officers carried out tens of thousands of checks and controls in various airports, ports, border crossing points, as well as in auction houses, museums and private houses, Europol revealed in a statement.

The operation was launched in 2016 with the aim to dismantle criminal networks involved in cultural theft and exploitation, and identify potential links to other criminal activities.

In the 2020 operation, over 27,000 artifacts were seized thanks to a single investigation by French customs.

Spanish authorities also seized nearly 8,000 cultural goods, including archaeological artefacts, coins, sculptures, statues, weapons, paintings and sound, film and photography archives worth over US$10 million. Another 12,000 artifacts which were headed towards the black market were intercepted in Greece.

Though the seizures were significant, according to Sam Hardy, a Rome-based criminologist who researches the Illegal antiquities trade, they only show what more needs to be done to combat the crime.

“Cultural property crime is an exceptionally difficult crime to police.” Hardy told OCCRP on Friday. “Yet these international collaborations, now under the leadership of Spain's Civil Guard and with the support of Europol, Interpol and the WCO, show that it is possible to police this crime.”

“Each of these operations has been a success that should be congratulated, but each has also been a reminder that much more success could be achieved if every country took it as seriously,” he said.

The Illegal antiquities trade is a multi-billion dollar global industry, according to a 2018 report by Standard Chartered Bank, and it’s beneficiaries are not just high society art aficionados. Often on the supply side, the trade is a major funding source for criminal and militant groups.

The looting of cultural property from active war zones is considered a war crime under the 1954 Hague Convention.

Combatting antiquities trafficking “isn't ‘only’ a matter of recovering the cultural assets of victimised societies,” Hardy added. “This trafficking connects with other crimes and contributes to the economic and political insecurity of those societies.”

The goods seized as part of operation Pandora V represented a range of different cultures across centuries. Authorities provided limited information on the specifics of their origins and how they came to be sold on the black market.

When authorities located cultural artifacts, often in online monitoring of dark web marketplaces, Europol facilitated an exchange of information to identify and track down the stolen goods.

Report: 78 Priests Allegedly ‘Massacred’ in Ethiopia Conflict

Ethiopian army soldiers and allied Eritrean troops allegedly “massacred” at least 78 priests of the Christian Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Ethiopia’s separatist Tigray region in recent months, Britain’s Telegraph newspaper reported on Monday.

An official Ethiopian Orthodox Church letter dated April 15 and recently leaked to the newspaper detailed the alleged attack on Tigray priests.

“The letter, which was addressed to the Synod [council] of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, says that ‘priests, deacons, choristers, and monks’ have been ‘massacred’ over the last five months,” the Telegraph wrote on Monday. “Half a dozen survivors confirmed the news to this newspaper and said that both Ethiopian national army soldiers and Eritrean troops went into their holy spaces across southeast Tigray and ‘shot them down.'”

“The stamped letter was sent on April 15 and lists the number of clergymen killed over the past five months in the church administrations,” the newspaper reported. “Gergera Maryam, Adi’Zeban Karagiorgis, Kidanemihret Bosa, Taksa, and the monastery of Da Abune Ayzgi are some of the churches where churchmen were massacred, according to witnesses.”

“[T]he number of dead clergymen could be much higher than 78,” Tigray priests who survived the massacre told the Telegraph.

The Ethiopian federal government launched a military offensive against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), a Marxist separatist group, in November 2020 after forces tied to the TPLF attacked multiple Ethiopian federal military bases across Tigray on November 4. The incident sparked an ongoing civil war between Addis Ababa and the TPLF, with most of the fighting concentrated in the northern region of Tigray. More than 60,000 Ethiopians have fled the conflict over the past six months, heading to either other parts of Ethiopia or neighboring states, such as Sudan. Eritrean troops allied with the Ethiopian federal government have deployed to Tigray to assist Addis Ababa’s military efforts.

Ethiopian federal forces allegedly attacked a Christian church in the Tigray city of Aksum in January, killing roughly 750 people. Ethiopian army troops, along with allied ethnic Amhara militias, “allegedly forced hundreds of people hiding in Aksum’s Maryam Tsion Church onto the church’s front square and shot them in recent days,” Breitbart News reported on January 19. The exact date of the alleged massacre in Aksum remains unknown, though it was first reported on January 9 by the Belgian-based peacebuilding non-profit Europe External Program with Africa (EEPA). Maryam Tsion is part of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, which has roughly 36 million members, according to Christian Today.

White House Says Investigating Reports Migrant Kids Housed in Buses Near Federal Facility

The White House is investigating reports that migrant children have been held in buses for extended periods of time outside federal care facilities, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Friday.

"The reports of children being held in buses outside of the HHS [Health and Human Services] facility in Dallas for extended periods of time are outrages, they're unacceptable and they do not meet our standard for childcare," Psaki said in a press briefing. "It's being fully investigated."

Psaki added that she cannot predict what the consequences will be until the investigation has concluded.

US media reported that several migrant children had been housed in buses outside a federal care facility in Dallas, Texas, some of them for a prolonged period.

In April, a total of 17,171 migrant children arrived at the US southern border alone, which represents a slight drop from the record set in March with nearly 19,000 arrivals of unaccompanied migrant children.

The Israeli strikes claimed the lives of more than 100 Palestinians, including 27 children, according to local health officials.

The move first sparked massive protests that saw clashes between the demonstrators and police in several Israeli cities as well as in Jerusalem. The tensions then led to a rocket attack by Hamas and a military response by the IDF.

‘It’s not over,’ Netanyahu says, as Israel continues to pound Gaza with airstrikes

We can reach them everywhere – all of [Hamas’s] people and we will continue to do so,” he said. “They attacked our capital, they fired missiles at our cities; they are paying and will continue to pay a heavy price for that,” the prime minister added.

The latest flare-up of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militants was preceded by massive protests, caused by an Israeli court decision to evict several Palestinian families from a neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

All new employees will be required to have Covid-19 vaccine, Delta Air Lines announces

Delta has said that they will need new hires to already have gotten their Covid-19 vaccinations, though it will not have a mandate for current employees as they have made “great progress” towards herd immunity.

“This is an important move to protect Delta’s people and customers, ensuring the airline can safely operate as demand returns and as it accelerates through recovery and into the future,” the company said in a Friday statement. The new policy will go into effect on Monday.

CEO Ed Bastian touted this week the fact that 60% of the company’s employees have received at least one shot of a vaccine, but he expects to have staff fully vaccinated at a 75%-to-80% rate in the near future.

Spokesperson Morgan Durrant said the current vaccination rate within the company represents “great progress to achieve herd immunity within our workforce.”

Bastian acknowledged that it would be unfair to force current employees to get vaccinated if they have “some kind of philosophical issue” with it, but that courtesy does not extend to new hires.

He did stress, however, that employees who do not get vaccinated could face restrictions, such as not being able to work on international flights.

Delta, which has 75,000 employees, is taking things a step further than other major corporations, as most, such as Amazon and Target, have simply tried incentivizing employees to get vaccinated, either by giving them a chance to get the shots during work hours or offering bonuses for new hires.

JPMorgan, Others To Unveil Credit Cards For People With No Credit Scores

After a year of clamping down on new credit card, mortgage, and commercial loan issuance in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic, US commercial banks are planning to issue credit cards to people with no credit scores.

WSJ reports JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, and US Bancorp, and others will extend credit to people who cannot obtain a credit card. Instead of using credit scores to vet an applicant, these banks will use other factors, including checking or savings accounts, to increase their chances of being approved.
