Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, said he will run for governor in 2022.

The Republican, 35, who served as a White House aide to former President Donald Trump, announced his candidacy on Twitter and with a new website. The plans were confirmed by Heather McBride, a spokesperson for Giuliani.

“Together WE WILL bring New York back!” he tweeted.

Dominican Lawmaker Arrested in Miami on Drug Trafficking Charges

(Bloomberg) – A ruling-party deputy from the Dominican Republic was arrested in Miami late Monday on drug trafficking charges, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Miguel Andres Gutierrez Diaz, 58, is facing allegations that he was part of a transnational cocaine smuggling ring from 2014 to 2017 that operated between the Dominican Republic, Colombia and the U.S.

In March, a U.S. grand jury indicted Gutierrez and others on charges of conspiracy to import, possess and distribute cocaine in the U.S. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Gutierrez’s office didn’t immediately answer calls and emails seeking comment.

Gutierrez, a member of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party, was elected to the chamber of deputies in 2020 representing the city of Santiago.

Local media said he had taken a commercial flight to Miami when he was detained. Gutierrez will make his initial federal court appearance Tuesday afternoon, the DOJ said.

Biden administration to release three Guantánamo Bay detainees, say reports

The Biden administration has approved the release of three prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay for almost 20 years without charge, according to The New York Times.

Citing US government officials and lawyers for the detainees, the Times reported the decision was approved last week but that that the timing of the release was unclear as the State Department negotiated agreements with countries to take them.

The three men include the oldest detainee of Guantanamo, Saifullah Paracha, 73, of Pakistan, who was captured in 2003. Uthman Abdul al-Rahim Uthman, 40, of Yemen is the longest-held prisoner after being sent to Camp X-Ray in January 2002. Abdul Rabbani, 54, of Pakistan, was also sent to the detention centre in 2002.
