SMFH… retired chem prof here. i also live with a well and am careful of ground water contamination. bleach is TOTALLY safe for you to use. it's inorganic, and degrades in days to harmless compounds. the only things you need to worry about are toxic organics that take decades to degrade, like synthetic pesticides and herbicides. dishwashing liquid and most shampoos are more concerning than plain old bleach.

this is true. so you CAN still use bleach, just don't put it down a drain that feed into septic system. we have two separate drain systems. one for toilets and one for laundry room and work areas.
