God gave Man the Law to show Man that he would never be like God on his own, regardless of what the devil told him.

And Jesus taught the Law, and told the most religious people of all time that they were all condemned under the Law, and even if they weren't, there were an infinite number of other things they would have to become and do in order to "be like God".
