"Jersey City and the Jersey City Public Schools are making a push for kids ages 12 and up to get their COVID-19 vaccination by hosting a mega clinic on May 22. Superintendent Franklin Walker said kids in the city will be able to walk into Ferris High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to get the Pfizer vaccine. He said the city has about 500 doses of the vaccine on site.

The federal Centers for Disease Control last week approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for kids between 12 and 15 years old, leaving children 11 and under still ineligible.

Walker added that the district is not requiring students to get the vaccination, but large gatherings that include unvaccinated students could lead to a spread of the virus. He said state colleges like New Jersey City University and Rutgers University are requiring students to be vaccinated, so it could be a matter of time before the state requires it."
