Boston-based CargoMetrics Technologies was founded by Borgerson in 2010 as data-driven investment company that uses proprietary software to provide real-time insight into the global shipping industry. The company has long been considered a front-runner in the space of big data in shipping and has attracted investments from tech bigwigs such as Eric Schmidt, former CEO and executive chairman of Google, and hedge fund investor Paul Tudor Jones. In 2017, the company entered into an equity agreement with Maersk Tankers, giving the A.P. Moller-Maersk unit access to CargoMetrics’ data and software.

Maersk Tankers said on Wednesday it has entered into an equity agreement with U.S. hedge fund CargoMetrics, giving it access to analytical models and algorithms to better manage its tanker operations.

Maersk Tankers, a unit of shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk , has invested a “significant” but undisclosed amount in the Boston-based hedge fund, which will give the firm exclusive right to its analytical models, algorithms and capabilities.

CargoMetrics links satellite signals, historical shipping data and proprietary analytics for trading purposes in its systematic investment platform.

“Data about the ninety-percent of global trade that moves by sea is a powerful trading edge,” said Scott Borgerson, Chief Executive of CargoMetrics in a statement.

The investment is in line with the more than 100-year old conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk’s push into new technologies as global trade becomes increasingly more digital.

“In the partnership, we will accelerate our use of digital solutions to enable our business strategy,” said Maersk Tankers Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Soren Meyer.

The Super Evolution is coming.

Recent advances in science and technology are causing exponential rates of change, leading to a Super Evolution.

A proliferation of data, leading-edge computation and advanced engineering are converging, speeding up product development cycles (design, build, test, measure, learn, iterate) from months or years to days or weeks.

This closed-loop learning allows teams to run experiments orders of magnitude faster and cheaper — multiplying the evolutionary effect and collapsing time.

The process of Super Evolution will fundamentally, irrevocably transform every single industry including agriculture, logistics, life sciences, construction, transportation and more.

US special forces can be tracked on missions in Syria using commercially available phone data that shows them traveling to military bases in America and their HOMES

US service members can be tracked on missions using their cell phone data

Such data sets surfaced in 2016 when PlanetRisk, a US defense contractor, was working on a software prototype to monitor the travel of refugees

At the time, employees of the company discovered that they were able to track US military operations through data from the apps on soldiers' phones

While the data sets don't contain the names of the soldiers, it does depict their movements, which could reveal clues about an individual's identity

In some cases, devices appeared at bases like Fort Bragg in North Carolina

The data also showed soldiers at the US-run Camp Buehring in Kuwait before they later traveled to the Lafarge Cement Factory in Syria

Devices would eventually reappear in the US and many times at private residences that were believed to be the homes of military personnel
