6-year-old girl shot in Minneapolis has died from her injuries

Aniya Allen was being driven home from McDonald's by her mother when she was struck by a bullet fired through her car.

The 6-year-old girl shot in the head in North Minneapolis on Monday has died from her injuries.

 

The tragic update confirming Aniya Allen's death was related by family members who spoke to several Twin Cities media outlets, as well as some relatives who have confirmed her death on Facebook.

 

Her death was later confirmed by Minneapolis Police Department.

 

Allen was shot in the head as the car being driven by her mother was struck by a hail of bullets at 36th and Penn Ave. N. at around 11 p.m. Monday. Allen and her mom were on their way home from McDonald's when the shooting happened.

 

Another man was injured in the shooting, with Allen's grandfather, Minneapolis peace activist Kay G. Wilson telling KARE 11 that as many as 30 shots may have been fired in the incident, suggesting that the vehicle Allen was in was caught in the crossfire.

 

A GoFundMe set up for her care described Allen as "a very happy and loving little girl."

 

Allen was the third child to be shot in Minneapolis in the past two weeks, with two children suffering critical injuries in the other incidents.

 

A vigil for her was held outside Hennepin County Medical Center on Tuesday, and there have been other gatherings from community members in North Minneapolis calling for an end to the recent violence.
