if you want some earlier brit comedy/commentary, you really need to look into Chris Morris. his main focus was fake news for years and he did segments which would trick b-grade celebs/pols into participating. he really hits his stride for Brass Eye, be sure to watch them all!
another one is the UK animated series Monkey Dust. different teams handling different segments which recur. the most brutal commentary on where the UK is/was headed. bonus points for the show using tons of deep and depressing music in the score which would all be a licensing nightmare in the USA.
