Hamas Gaza leader hints at mass breach of Israel border fence as he compares Palestinians to 'starving tiger'

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/gaza-protests-latest-hamas-sinwar-border-fence-breach-israel-a8345871.html

“What’s the problem if hundreds of thousands storm this fence which is not a border of a state? What’s the problem with that?“ Sinwar said, adding he did not recognise the border.

Sinwar also warned that desperation among young Gazans had become a ticking bomb. Threatening as this may sound, the last claim is oddly not that distant of an echo of a warning last year by Herzl Halevi, the head of Israeli military intelligence - that if unsolved the humanitarian crisis in Gaza could “blow up” in Israel’s direction.

Sinwar said the protests were peaceful, but that ”no one knows where the tiger is heading, what it is going to do”.

UK's armed forces short of up to £21bn for equipment needed over next decade, MPs warn

Public Accounts Committee says gap has impact on Britain's 'ability to prepare for serious challenges in national defence'

Britain’s armed forces could be almost £21bn short of the money it needs to buy equipment to combat mounting threats over the next decade, MPs have warned.

The Public Accounts Committee said it was “highly sceptical” that the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) ongoing modernisation programme would solve affordability issues and ensure Britain’s capabilities against cyber, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and electromagnetic attacks.

A report concluded that the department “simply does not have enough money to buy all the equipment it says it needs” and accused it of losing control over costs.

The Philippines is planning a $14bn 'pollution-free' city that will be larger than Manhattan

As an alternative to the Philippines' hyper-dense capital, which apparently has the 'worst traffic on Earth', Filipino authorities are planning to build an entirely new, more sustainable city called New Clark

Manila, the hyper-dense capital of The Philippines, is known for its traffic jams. In a 2016 survey, navigation company Waze ranked Manila as having the "worst traffic on Earth."

The city's reliance on cars also exacerbates its growing air-pollution problem.

As a possible solution to Manila's smog and gridlock, the country plans to build an entirely new, more sustainable city called New Clark.

Plans for the $14bn development — which will be larger than Manhattan — call for drones, driverless cars, technologies that will reduce buildings' water and energy usage, a giant sports complex, and plenty of green space.

Take a look below.

Over the next three decades, the Philippines aims to build out New Clark about 75 miles outside Manila.

New Clark will be divided into five districts, each with a specific function: government, business, education, agriculture, and recreation.

Australia shooting: Seven dead, including four children, in incident at home in Western Australia

'This devastating tragedy will no doubt have a lasting impact on the families concerned'

Seven people have been found dead with gunshot wounds at a property near the tourist town of Margaret River in Australia's southwest on Friday, police said.

The bodies of three adults and four children and two guns were found at a property at the village of Osmington, Western Australia state Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said.

Police were called to the house at around 5.15am local time (Thursday 10.15pm BST) and officers have no concerns about wider public safety, Mr Dawson added.

He said: "This devastating tragedy will no doubt have a lasting impact on the families concerned, the whole community and, in particular, the local communities in our southwest."

This could be the worst mass shooting in Australia since a lone gunman killed 35 in Tasmania in 1996, prompting the nation to introduce tough gun controls.

Australia's gun laws are widely acclaimed as a success, with supporters including former US president Barack Obama saying Australia has not had a single mass shooting since they were implemented.

The generally accepted definition of a mass shooting - four deaths excluding the shooter in a single event - has been met only once in Australia since then in 2014 when a farmer shot his wife and three children before killing himself.

"But muh Australia and there awesome gun confiscation lawssssss"

Attacks on schools and universities rising with 12,700 targeted in last five years, Save the Children warns

More than 21,000 teachers and students harmed

Ricky Balidad was on his way to teach a class at an interfaith school in Talaingod, the Philippines, when a paramilitary fighter blocked his path.

“If you go through we will chop you up and kill you,” said the fighter. Humanitarian groups say such threats have become common in recent years, with members of the Alamara militia joining up with soldiers to harass teachers and pupils inside school grounds.

Save the Children warned that attacks on schools around the world, including in the Philippines, are rising. In a new report, Education Under Attack, the charity documents more than 12,700 violent incidents in schools and universities around the world in the last five years. During those, more than 21,000 teachers and students were harmed.

Legal Career

Immediately following law school, Michael began working at O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles, alongside Daniel Petrocelli, who previously represented the Goldman family in its case against O.J. Simpson. He assisted Petrocelli on multiple legal matters, including the representation of singer Christina Aguilera and litigation surrounding the movie K-19: The Widowmaker, and worked extensively on the defense of the Eagles’ Don Henley and Glen Frey in various cases, including in a well-publicized suit brought by former bandmate Don Felder against the band and Irving Azoff.

After three years at O’Melveny, he joined Greene Broillet & Wheeler, a Los Angeles boutique litigation firm. While there, Michael spearheaded many high-profile cases, including a $10 million defamation case against Paris Hilton; a successful idea theft lawsuit involving the reality show The Apprentice and its producer, Mark Burnett, as well as Donald Trump; and a large corporate multi-national embezzlement case involving in excess of $42,000,000.

In 2007, Michael formed the law firm Eagan Avenatti, LLP (fka Eagan O’Malley & Avenatti, LLP), with offices in Newport Beach, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Since co-founding the firm, Michael has been responsible for securing a number of large verdicts and settlements as lead counsel, including an April 2017 $454 Million verdict after a jury trial in Federal Court in Los Angeles in a fraud case against Kimberly-Clark (NYSE: KMB) and Halyard Health (NYSE: HYH) that was featured on 60 Minutes (won every jury question as to every defendant); a $80.5 million class action settlement against Service Corporation International (NYSE: SCI) in another case featured on 60 Minutes and in the international press (settlement reached in the middle of trial); a $41 million jury verdict after a nearly five-week trial in New Jersey; a $39 million settlement in a case involving the alleged theft of trade secrets; and a $13 million plus verdict after a six week jury trial in Palm Beach, Florida (won every jury question as to every defendant). In 2015, Michael prevailed against the National Football League after a two-week jury trial in Federal District Court in Dallas, Texas after obtaining a court order requiring Jerry Jones to attend trial and be cross-examined.

Michael routinely receives numerous honors and awards for his legal work, including being voted by his peers as the top trial lawyer of the year.
