Singapore’s Ministry of Health has ordered Facebook and Twitter, as well as SPH Magazines, to correct what it claims to be online falsehoods suggesting that a new coronavirus mutation originated in the country. The supposed “falsehoods” seem to have been fueled by an Indian politician.

“There is no new ‘Singapore’ variant of COVID-19,” the ministry said in a statement. “Neither is there evidence of any COVID-19 variant that is ‘extremely dangerous for kids’. The strain that is prevalent in many of the COVID-19 cases detected in Singapore in recent weeks is the B.1.617.2 variant, which originated from India.”

The correction orders were issued under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act. The platforms that received the orders will have to include a correction notice on all posts to their users in Singapore.

The correction orders came shortly after a clash between the Singapore government and India, after New Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for the suspension of flights to the Southeast Asian nation, claiming there was a new variant of COVID-19 originating from Singapore.

In an attempt to not damage relations with Singapore, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar insisted that Kejriwal “does not speak for India,” adding that “irresponsible comments from those who should know better can damage long-standing partnerships.”

Americans Arrested in Bangkok Kidnapping Case Deny Charges

Thai Police said Thursday they are pursuing more suspects in the kidnapping case for which two American men have been arrested. The kidnapping case involves a business dispute over the purchase of nitrile gloves, critical personal protective equipment during the coronavirus pandemic.

Louis William Ziskin, the CEO of a Los Angeles-based tech company, and Jeremy Hughes Manchester, identified as a former U.S. Marine, were arrested on Saturday along with a Thai man. The five additional suspects are from the U.S. and Israel, said police Col. Netiwit Thanasithnitikul of Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division.

Ziskin and Manchester have denied the charges, which include kidnapping, attempted murder, assault and being part of a criminal gang. Both are free on bail but must wear tracking devices at all times and not leave Thailand.

Ziskin replied to an email query from The Associated Press, and in a series of exchanges indicated the accounts given by Thai police were misleading and that he has evidence that will exonerate him of wrongdoing.

Netiwit said the case resulted from a business deal gone sour between Ziskin and the company for which the Taiwanese man worked. Ziskin accused the company of cheating by selling him substandard nitrile gloves for almost $3 million.

Crime has two complicated aspects

Netiwit said Ziskin allegedly hired a group of Americans and Israeli private detectives based in Thailand to help recover the money he paid the Taiwanese company for the rubber gloves.

“This crime has two complicated aspects. One is a kidnap attempt and other is the medical supply deal gone bad during COVID time,” Netiwit said.

He said Thailand is a major glove supplier, and “we hear so many stories of fraudulent deals by people who claimed to represent a legitimate glove company when they don’t really have any connection.”

He said the police Economic Crime Division is investigating the glove deal.

According to a police statement after Saturday’s arrests, the representative of the Taiwanese company, Wen Yu Chung, was lured to a meeting in March on the pretext of discussing the possible purchase of rubber gloves.

The group allegedly hired by Ziskin, including Manchester, seized Wen in full view of customers, restaurant staff and a CCTV camera, dragging him outside after a brief struggle and bundling him into a waiting vehicle, which took him to a rented room nearby, the statement said.

Gov. Gavin Newsom fights recall effort with millions in donations from Netflix CEO, 49ers owner, and other wealthy elites

Embattled California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is fighting the gubernatorial recall initiative in his state with a war chest filled with sizable contributions from wealthy progressive elites, including millions of dollars from Netflix founder and co-CEO Reed Hastings.

According to a state filing issued Thursday, Hastings recently donated $3 million to a fund aimed at combating efforts in a recall, which will likely land before voters as a ballot measure in the fall.

Hastings' contribution to the fund, which is called "Stop the Republican Recall of Governor Newsom," is by far the largest single donation to date. But according to Politico, it's merely demonstrative of the "formidable fundraising network" that Newsom can tap into in his bid to remain governor.

The news outlet noted that in addition to Hastings' millions, the pro-Newsom fund "has also drawn six-figure outlays from a range of prominent individuals and industries that include agricultural power couple Stewart and Lynda Resnick, 49ers CEO Jed York, law firms and labor unions."

Also, the array of big-dollar contributions only bolsters the significant financial advantage Newsom already enjoys in the recall election due to certain California rules that govern the process.

Politico reported that because state law treats Newsom's recall fight as a ballot issue rather than a candidacy, "Newsom can raise unlimited sums to fend off a recall effort that will likely land before voters in the fall, while other gubernatorial candidates are subject to campaign limits of $32,400 per election in their direct accounts."

Given Newsom's massive edge over the competition in fundraising and California's extreme bent toward Democratic policies, it's safe to say his ouster from office via recall is a long shot. Even so, the fact that the option will be put before voters says something about his popularity, or lack thereof, in the state.

Recall efforts against Newsom spawned last year as a result of his bungled handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which included a public relations disaster over Newsom's maskless attendance at a large dinner party at the French Laundry, an high-end restaurant in Napa Valley.

Last month, the campaign to recall Newsom obtained enough signatures — more than 1.5 million — to trigger a special election in the state.

According to Deadline, declared challengers will include former Republican gubernatorial candidate John Cox, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, former Congressman Doug Ose, and Caitlyn Jenner.

Biden Is Keeping Migrant Kids In Horrible Conditions. Where Is The Outcry?

The Biden administration is now warehousing nearly 20,000 migrant minors, almost double the highest total in federal custody during the Trump administration, which was 11,400 in May 2019.

When hundreds of protesters showed up outside a tent facility for migrant youth near the U.S.-Mexico border in Tornillo, Texas, in December 2018, singing and chanting loudly for their release, then-Rep. Beto O’Rourke was among them, microphone in hand, to denounce the Trump administration.

“Let’s continue to show up here,” he said. “We can witness with our own eyes, testify with our own words to our fellow Americans what is going on here.”

Five months earlier outside this same South Texas facility, then-congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez staged an emotional photo op, covering her face in anguish and weeping for the children being held in what the Associated Press later called a “detention camp” in an “isolated corner of the Texas desert.”

Indeed, for Democrats and the corporate press, the Tornillo facility, which at one point housed more than 2,800 migrant teens during the 2019 border crisis, became a symbol of Trump’s supposed malevolence towards migrants and the cruelty of his policies.

The hundreds of white tents and barbed-wire perimeter fencing at Tornillo served as an ideal setting for numerous exposé-style news reports from the border, purporting to show how Trump’s ruthless immigration policies were victimizing vulnerable migrant kids. Every time the Trump administration expanded the facility, the media would meticulously document it.

By the end of January 2019, the federal government was dismantling the tents at Tornillo. The minors housed there were released to parents and relatives living in the United States or transferred to other facilities. Trump’s critics cheered the closure. One immigration activist told the Washington Post that Tornillo had been “a monstrosity of an idea.”

Given all this, you might be surprised to learn that today, under the Biden administration, there are numerous emergency facilities for migrant kids that are far worse than Tornillo, and far bigger.

When President Biden came under fire in March for the humanitarian crisis unfolding at the border, his administration scrambled to transfer the record number of migrant children being held in crude, jail-like facilities run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, more than 5,700 at one point, into the care of the Department of Health and Human Services. According to federal law, minors aren’t supposed to be held by Border Patrol for more than 72 hours. Many were being held for weeks.

So the administration authorized more than a dozen emergency shelters to be set up by HHS in military bases, convention centers, camps for oil workers, and elsewhere. By the beginning of May, the number of kids being held by CBP had plummeted and the White House boasted of its success.

But all the administration did was hide the problem. Unaccompanied minors are still crossing the border illegally, and still being taken into government custody. The Biden administration is now warehousing nearly 20,000 migrant minors, almost double the highest total in federal custody during the Trump administration, which was 11,400 in May 2019.

Arizona's Top Elections Official Claims Machines Being Audited May Have Been "Compromised"… By Auditors

Arizona’s secretary of state on Thursday warned the state’s largest county not to try to use election machines that are being audited or she would decertify the equipment.

“I have grave concerns regarding the security and integrity of these machines, given that the chain of custody, a critical security tenet, has been compromised and election officials do not know what was done to the machines while under Cyber Ninjas’ control,” Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, wrote in a letter to Maricopa County officials.

Auditors hired by the Arizona Senate, including Cyber Ninjas, have been reviewing over 2 million ballots cast and 385 tabulators used in the 2020 election, along with other materials.

Auditors have said they’re following strict forensics protocols.

“We don’t turn on a system if it’s delivered to us in a powered-off state. We remove the hard drives, we perform forensics imaging with write blocks to prevent any changes to those hard drives, and we produce a bit for bit forensics copy of that particular drive,” Ben Cotton, founder of CyFIR, the company leading the technology component of the audit, told Arizona senators in a meeting this week.

Ken Bennett, the former Republican Arizona secretary of state who is serving as the liaison for the state Senate for the audit, added that immediately upon receiving the machines on April 21, the equipment and ballots were placed into locked cages and have been under armed guard the entire time since.

“We have not had any breaches of the cages where the ballots or the machines have been kept,” he said.

But Hobbs alleged that it is unclear what security procedures, if any, were put into place to secure the machines.

“Indeed, our expert observers, as well as multiple news reports, have noted troubling security lapses. And Cyber Ninjas has failed to provide full transparency into what they did with the equipment,” she wrote to Maricopa County officials.

“The lack of physical security and transparency means we cannot be certain who accessed the voting equipment and what might have been done to them,” she added.

There are no comprehensive methods to fully rehabilitate compromised equipment, meaning the county “should acquire new machines to ensure secure and accurate elections” moving forward, Hobbs said.

If the county chooses to re-deploy the subpoenaed equipment for use in future elections, Hobbs’ office may consider moving to decertify it.

US Imposes Sanctions on 3 Russian Entities, 13 Vessels Involved in Construction of Nord Stream 2

Earlier in the week, the US State Department rolled out a mandatory report to Congress, listing entities and vessels subject to American sanctions for their involvement in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

The United States on Friday imposed sanctions on 3 Russian entities and 13 vessels over their participation in the Nord Stream 2 project, according to the Department of Treasury.

Among the sanctioned vessels are the Akademik Cherskiy, the Vladislav Strizhov, the Yury Topchev and the Baltiyskiy Issledovatel, along with others. The sanctioned companies are Russia's Marine Rescue Service, Mortransservice, and the Samara Heat and Energy Property Fund.

Certain transactions with Marine Rescue Service, however, will still be allowed, despite sanctions.

The move to impose sanctions on Russian entities and vessels involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2 comes shortly after the US State Department issued a report under Protecting Europe's Energy Security Act (PEESA), listing those involved in the pipeline project.

The Biden administration also moved to waive sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 AG corporation and its CEO, Matthias Warnig, with US State Secretary Antony Blinken saying that the decision is in the US "national interest".

Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline slated to deliver up to 55 billion cubic metres of Russian natural gas to Europe annually. However, the project has met strong opposition from the United States, with Washington claiming that the endeavour threatens European energy security and suggesting its own liquefied natural gas output as a purchase alternative.

EU countries, particularly Germany, argue that it is not up to Washington to make decisions on European energy security, defending Nord Stream 2 even in the wake of US sanctions.

Moscow has repeatedly underlined that the project is purely economic, and the way in which the White House opposes it is an example of unfair competition

The ongoing assault on Palestine has captured the world’s attention. The latest violence was sparked by an attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by Israeli security forces, resulting in over 300 casualties, as Muslims had gathered to celebrate Ramadan in the region’s holiest place of worship. Outside, far-right groups cheered as the mosque was damaged, and launched pogroms against non-Jews inside Israel.

In response, Hamas began firing rockets into Israel, which, in turn, spurred a massive Israeli retaliation that has seen hundreds killed, thousands injured, and forced tens of thousands to flee their homes.

Images of worshippers suffocating due to Israeli tear gas, Gazan buildings being leveled in airstrikes, and mortally wounded children have gone viral, reaching millions. But perhaps not as viral as they should have been if we had an open and uncontrolled social media ecosystem.

Palestinians the world over have reported having their content being taken down and their social media accounts blocked on a host of platforms — including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok — for spurious reasons, including anti-hate speech violations. When pressed for comment by MintPress, Facebook told us that their widespread suppression of Palestinian content at a time of such tensions was merely a technical error, stating:

We know there have been several issues that have impacted people’s ability to share on our apps, including a technical bug that affected Stories around the world, and an error which temporarily restricted content from being viewed on the Al Aqsa mosque hashtag page. While both issues have been fixed, they never should have happened in the first place. We’re so sorry to everyone who felt they couldn’t bring attention to important events, or who felt this was a deliberate suppression of their voice. This was never our intention.

Yet, even as they insisted nothing suspicious was afoot, MintPress CEO and Palestinian rights activist Mnar Muhawesh Adley had both her professional and private Facebook accounts restricted, just as thousands were turning to her for information and views. Other American outlets suffered similar consequences. The Grayzone reported that their interview with Palestinian journalists in Gaza was removed without explanation by YouTube.

This is, unfortunately, all too common a story for activists the world over. During U.S.-backed coup attempts in Venezuela and Bolivia, progressive and antiwar voices in those countries found themselves locked out of their suspended social media accounts at precisely the time it was most crucial for their voices to be heard, suggesting some sort of collusion.

In recent years, social media monopolies like Twitter, Facebook and Reddit have developed increasingly close links to the U.S. national security state. In November, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and IBM signed a contract with the CIA worth tens of billions of dollars to provide the agency with tech solutions and intelligence support, instantly making the firms among the largest military contractors in the world.

Silicon Valley is well aware of this, and is even leading the charge to turn social media into a weapon for the West. “What Lockheed Martin was to the twentieth century, technology and cyber-security companies [like Google] will be to the twenty-first,” boasted Google executives Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen. All of this results in a situation where it is increasingly difficult to distinguish between big tech and big government.

Biggest Navy Exercise in a Generation Will Include 25,000 Personnel Across 17 Time Zones

Tens of thousands of sailors and Marines will participate in the biggest U.S. naval exercise in a generation to test how the services will fight across vast distances as they prepare for possible conflict with China or Russia.

Aircraft carriers, submarines, planes, unmanned vessels, and about 25,000 personnel will participate in Large Scale Exercise 2021, which will begin in late summer. The massive exercise will span 17 time zones with sailors and Marines in the U.S., Africa, Europe and the Pacific joining.

Live forces will participate in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

"LSE is more than just training, it is leveraging the integrated fighting power of multiple naval forces to share sensors, weapons, and platforms across all domains in contested environments, globally," said Adm. Christopher Grady, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces, told Military.com in an email.

The exercise, he added, will be the first in a series "that will continue to push the envelope of what it means to be the superior maritime force."

The Navy and Marine Corps are working more closely after decades of missions focused on the Middle East. As competition for influence builds with China and Russia, the Department of the Navy is shifting its focus from a largely land-based fight against terror groups to deterring aggression.

Three dozen units will participate in physical portions of the large-scale exercise, while more than 50 will join the exercise remotely, said Lt. Cmdr. Tabitha Klingensmith, with U.S. Fleet Forces Command. Participating units will include personnel from all three Marine expeditionary forces and sailors from the Navy's Second, Third, Sixth, Seventh and Tenth fleets.

While the U.S. has held big naval exercises like Bold Alligator and Rim of the Pacific, Klingensmith said the training events are growing in scope and complexity. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday has referred to the upcoming large-scale exercise as the biggest naval training event in a generation.

That's because combining live and virtual participants "will expand the playing field beyond what has ever been achieved in live-only exercises," Klingensmith said.

TEXAS: Abbott, Patrick, House Speaker Received $250K+ From Clinic That Chemically Castrates ‘Transgender’ Kids

Campaign finance records show that the Friends of UT Southwestern Medical Center PAC handed out hundreds of thousands to Texas Republicans

Campaign finance records reveal that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and House Speaker Dade Phelan received hundreds of thousands of dollars from a PAC for a clinic that offers hormone treatment to allegedly transgender children.

UT Southwestern Medical Center hosts the Gender Education and Care Interdisciplinary Support (GENECIS) program, which is the “first and largest program in the southwest that provides multidisciplinary care to transgender children and adolescents.” While the program does not offer surgery to children, it does offer a number of so-called “treatments” that may amount to chemical castration, including hormone therapy, menstruation suppression, and puberty suppression.

“Our team has impacted thousands of youth across the country and is a vital resource for patients, families and communities,” their website reads. “We support youth of all gender expressions and identities, and provide evidence-based, gender-affirming care in a supportive and safe environment,” it continues, claiming that “gender identity is unique for every child and may be different from the sex assigned to them at birth.”

Campaign finance records show that the Friends of UT Southwestern Center, also known as FOMCPAC, handed out well over $250,000 in total to a number of top Texas politicians who were recently involved in shutting down multiple pieces of legislation that would have prevented hormone treatment and surgery from being provided to supposed transgender children in the state.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who National File has been told led the charges against the bills designed to protect children, received $85,000 from the transgender clinic PAC since 2015. His Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick, received the lion’s share from FOMCPAC however, taking over $120,000 since 2015. Newly-elected House Speaker Dade Phelan was given $50,000 in the 2020 cycle by the clinic’s PAC. Similarly, Rep. Stephanie Klick, who was in a position to block these bills in her role as the Chair of the House Health Committee, received $4,000 from FOMCPAC since 2015.

According to Tracy Shannon, the Director of the Texas Mass Resistance activist group, Phelan’s decision to declare a recess yesterday effectively kills S.B. 1311’s chances of passing. S.B. 1311 would have stripped liability insurance for doctors who engage in transgender surgeries or chemical castrations for kids.

COMPROMISED: Harvard Subjects Students To Trips, Research Papers Authored By Chinese Communist Party Propaganda Front.

The Harvard Kennedy School – a public policy-focused graduate school – has collaborated extensively with various propaganda arms of the Chinese Communist Party seeking to influence Western organizations to “adopt positions supportive of Beijing’s preferred policies.”

One of America’s premier institutions, the Harvard Kennedy School, has partnered with the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) on studies and research reports for over a decade.

CUSEF’s Founding Chairman doubles as the leader of the “highest-ranking entity overseeing” the Chinese Communist Party’s United Work Front, which according to the U.S.-China Security and Economic Review Commission, seeks to “co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party” and “influence overseas Chinese communities, foreign governments, and other actors to take actions or adopt positions supportive of Beijing’s preferred policies.”

It has set out to “effectively disseminate positive messages to the media, key influencers and opinion leaders, and the general public” regarding the Chinese Communist Party, according to Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) filings with the Department of Justice.

A summary of the partnership on CUSEF’s website reveals the Chinese Communist Party-linked organization partnered with the university on trips to China.

Delegations, comprised of 18 Harvard Kennedy School graduate students, spend 10 days on an annual “study trek to China. A summary reads:

The delegation visited Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai, participating in substantive meetings to achieve a better understanding of China’s global engagement as well as the opportunities and challenges the nation faces on the world stage. Through discussions with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Affairs Department of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), in addition to regional organizations and businesses such as the Sichuan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and NIO Shanghai, the students gained greater awareness of the ways in which China collaborates with foreign nations and received a first-hand experience of the unique economic and global state of affairs China finds itself in today.

In addition to meeting with Chinese Communist Party officials and state-run think tanks, schools, and influence groups, delegation members reveal they’ve also toured Huawei facilities.
