U.S. CDC looking into heart inflammation in some young vaccine recipients

(Reuters) -Some teenagers and young adults who received COVID-19 vaccines experienced heart inflammation, a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory group said, recommending further study of the rare condition.

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in a statement dated May 17 said it had looked into reports that a few young vaccine recipients, predominantly adolescents and young adults, and predominantly male, developed myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle.

The condition often goes away without complications and can be caused by a variety of viruses, the CDC group said.

CDC monitoring systems had not found more cases than would be expected in the population, but members of the committee on vaccinations felt that healthcare providers should be made aware of the reports of the "potential adverse event," the committee said in the statement.

It did not say how many people had been affected and recommended further investigation.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, said vaccines are known to cause myocarditis and would be important to monitor to see if it is causally related to the vaccine. It is important to look at the risk-benefit ratio, he added. "Vaccines are going to unequivocally be much more beneficial outweighing this very low, if conclusively established, risk."

The CDC said the cases typically occurred within four days after receiving the mRNA vaccines. It did not specify which vaccines. The United States has given emergency authorization to two mRNA vaccines, from Moderna Inc and Pfizer/BioNTech.

Israel's Health Ministry in April said it was examining a small number of cases of heart inflammation in people who had received Pfizer's vaccine, though it had not yet drawn any conclusions. Most of the cases in Israel were reported among people up to age 30.

Pfizer at the time said it had not observed a higher rate of the condition than would normally be the case in the general population and that a causal link to the vaccine had not been established.

Pfizer and Moderna did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Saturday.

The CDC in late April, after news of the Israeli investigation, said it did not see a link between the two.

Earlier this month U.S. regulators expanded authorization of Pfizer and BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine to children aged 12 to 15.

Kevin Spacey set to return to screens after sex abuse allegations

When Kevin Spacey was accused of a series of sordid allegations of sexual harassment and abuse, few would have imagined the Hollywood star would be seen on screen again.

But, just three years on, there are plans for him to star in a film with Vanessa Redgrave directed by her husband, Franco Nero, one of Italy’s most respected film talents.

Spacey – whose career collapsed when he was accused by more than a dozen men of inappropriate behaviour and abuse spanning several years – is being lined up by Nero for a central role in his film L’uomo che disegnò Dio (The Man who drew God).

The plot has echoes of Spacey’s own fall from grace, with the actor slated to play a detective investigating claims of paedophilia levelled against a blind artist.

Nero himself plays the artist, a blind man who can draw anybody’s exact physical features just by listening to their voices. Eventually he comes to the attention of a TV talent show, but the ensuing publicity leads to the artist being wrongfully accused of sex abuse.

Filming is due to begin shortly, in what could mark Spacey’s first big screen outing since the abuse scandal.

In an interview given after filming was interrupted when the Covid pandemic ravaged Italy, Nero said: “It’s a true story, the story of a man who, though blind, creates sculpture of peoples faces.

“Among the actors, I made contact with Kevin Spacey. I’d have been very happy to bring him back on to a film set. We’re waiting for the end of the pandemic to pick up from where our preparatory work was interrupted.”

It would be a remarkable turn of events for Spacey, who – when the allegations against him surfaced in 2017 – suffered the ignominy of being replaced by Christopher Plummer as John Paul Getty in Ridley Scott’s All The Money in the World. He was also removed from the last season of the hit Netflix political dramaHouse of Cards.

The Stone Masons Arms

You may have noticed a stall in the Green Fields with people chipping away at big blocks of stone.

Well, this simple stone-masonry workshop is not what it first seems, because if you walk through the tent and out into the back, there is a hidden secret to behold.

Behind the main stall, you will find a secret bar called The Stone Mason's Arms, complete with table football table and comfy chairs!

There are always many hidden venues to be found at Shangri-La.

The field has undergone an extensive renovation for 2017, out goes the Heaven and Hell theme of recent years, and in comes a new "Environ-Mental" theme, where in the words of the poster, "only the waste from last year's festival remains".

Despite this, there is sure to still be many secret venues to find. Is there a random door? Knock on it, open it, you never know what you may find.

Walls at Shangri-La have been known to not in fact be walls at all, but curtains!

I have even bartered with a doorman standing in front of an inconspicuous door to gain entry to a tiny Hollywood VIP themed bar complete with paparazzi and champagne!

The Secret Underground Piano Bar

It is the stuff of Glastonbury legend - a hidden underground bar that does not appear on any maps or official guides, where well-known artists have been known to turn up for surprise sets.

Michael Eavis named it as his favourite part of Glastonbury, and James Hetfield of Metallica name-checked it on the BBC.

t’s called The Secret Underground Piano Bar, and is built from a large hole in the ground, topped with a wooden frame, covered in turf.

It can be found hidden somewhere amongst the Green Fields towards the South East of the site.

We Finally Know Who Will Play Prince Harry & Meghan Markle in Lifetime’s ‘Escaping the Palace’

Lifetime is relying on an all-new duo to bring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to life in its upcoming movie, Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace.

The network just released the first casting details for the highly anticipated follow-up film, which will star Jordan Dean(The Punisher)and Sydney Morton(She’s Gotta Have It)as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, respectively.

Other cast members include Jordan Whalen (Prince William), Laura Mitchell (Kate Middleton), Steve Coulter (Prince Charles), Maggie Sullivun (Queen Elizabeth II), Melanie Nicholls-King (Doria Ragland), Bonnie Soper (Princess Diana), Deborah Ramsay (Camilla) and James Dreyfus (palace insider Leonard).

Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace is being directed by Menhaj Huda (Comedown), while Scarlett Lacey (Magnum, P.I.) is writing the script. Merideth Finn (My Sister’s Keeper) and Michele Weiss (The Time Traveler’s Wife) are serving as executive producers.

According to the official description, “Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will examine the dynamics between Will (Whalen) and Harry, Kate (Mitchell) and Meghan, and Harry with Will and Charles (Coulter), that lead to the ultimate break from the royal ties.”

Escaping the Palace is the third movie in Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan franchise. (In 2018, the network released A Royal Romance followed by Becoming Royal.) Each film featured a different cast: Parisa Fitz-Henry and Murray Fraser starred in the original, while Tiffany Smith and Charlie Field took over for the sequel.

Still, one question remains: Did Dean and Morton watch Prince Harry and Markle’s tell-all conversation with Oprah Winfrey? Let’s hope so.
