We’re Not Alone in the Universe

https://www.currentaffairs.org/2021/05/were-not-alone-in-the-universe

We stand on the edge of a great cosmic sea. A new Age of Discovery awaits, with wonders untold scattered across vast distances. It’s the Final Frontier. And yet human beings have not even managed to abolish prisons, militaries, and the nation-state. How far we are from realizing our potential! How sad it is to see generations miss out on learning the deepest mysteries of our infinitely fascinating reality.

What is a super flower blood moon and how can you see it?

https://mashable.com/article/what-is-super-flower-blood-moon/

The super flower blood moon gets its cool name from the color, size, and month of the eclipse. Since the moon will be at its perigee, the closest point to the Earth in its oval-shaped orbit, during the eclipse it will appear to be a "super" or slightly larger moon. "Flower" comes from the Farmer's Almanac delineation for a full moon that occurs in the month of May. As for "blood," the atmosphere of the earth might be dusty enough to give the moon a red tint when the eclipse occurs. Put 'em all together and it's a super flower blood moon.

According to Astronomy.com, the eclipse will only be visible to those in "western North and South America, the Pacific Ocean, Australasia, and eastern Asia," so if you're on the eastern time zone you're out of luck for this eclipse. Luckily, Space.com has helpful a list of webcasts and livestreams that will host high quality video of the eclipse as it happens, including one from the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and the Lowell Observatory in Arizona.

Scientists spot the most energetic light ever seen

https://www.engadget.com/scientists-detect-record-setting-energetic-light-193000916.html

Scientists have yet to fully solve the mysteries of highly energetic light, and now they have another mystery on their hands. ScienceNews reports that a team using the China-based Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) has detected the most energetic light to date coming from a group of a dozen gamma ray "hotspots," with the most energy coming from a ray with about 1.4 quadrillion electron volts. The previous record-setting ray managed 'just' under a quadrillion electron volts.

The discovery suggests that the Milky Way galaxy is loaded with particle accelerators that boost electrons and protons to extreme speeds. It's not always clear what produces these hotspots, although nebulae and star nurseries (such as the Cygnus Cocoon) have been candidates.

This might also hint at many more discoveries to come. LHAASO is only due to be completed later in 2021. It's expected to find many more of these intense light sources. That, in turn, could provide more answers about their creation and the systems that drive the universe.

European Space Agency wants to build a GPS network for the moon

https://www.digitaltrends.com/news/esa-moon-satellite-constellation/

The system would help with landing spacecraft as well, and could allow missions to land on the far side of the moon. Radio astronomers are particularly interested in building a telescope on the far side of the moon to allow observations of the universe without the Earth’s atmosphere getting in the way, and because the moon would block the radio emissions from Earth so they could see further out in different wavelengths.

There’s also the argument that such a system could make missions to the moon simpler and more affordable. ESA writes, “Having one system dedicated to lunar telecommunications and navigation could reduce design complexity, liberating missions to concentrate on their core activities. Because missions could rely on this dedicated telecommunications and navigation services, they would be lighter. This would make space for more scientific instruments or other cargo.”

The Moonlight initiative is still in its early stages, and now two industry consortia will be studying the concept to see if it is feasible. If the studies are promising, the project could start as early as 2023.

Astronomers discover the oldest known spiral galaxy

https://www.slashgear.com/astronomers-discover-the-oldest-known-spiral-galaxy-23674084/

It was a surprise that BRI 1335-0417 already had structures similar to nearby galaxies long before the active phase of galaxy formation. Prior to discovering BRI 1335-0417, the oldest known galaxy was formed 2.5 billion years after the Big Bang.

That makes BRI 1335-0417 older by about 1 billion years. The new findings change scientific knowledge about how and when galaxies formed and evolved into what we see today. Astronomers note that while BRI 1335-0417 is the oldest known spiral galaxy, it’s not the oldest galaxy ever observed. That title goes to a galaxy called GNz11 spotted last December that formed 13.4 billion years ago, a mere 400 million years after the Big Bang.

Researchers Fire Tardigrade from a Gun to See if They Would Survive Interplanetary Space Travel

https://www.techeblog.com/tardigrade-gun-interplanetary-space-travel/

They discovered that shooting them out at nearly 2,000 miles per hour, the frozen tardigrades could be revived. However, at speeds faster than that, the tardigrades just ended up mushing together and could not be brought back to life. The ultimate goal was to discover if tardigrade-like creatures could survive the conditions required for interplanetary space travel.

Instead, Belarus authorities detained the exiled reporter Pratasevich, who had been traveling from Greece to Lithuania. Pratesevich faces criminal charges in Belarus, including inciting hatred against the government. He is also on the nation's list of "individuals involved in terrorist activity." Belarus opposition leaders say he could face the death penalty in his native country.

Reporter's luggage 'thrown out' onto the runway

Upon landing in Minsk, security forces took the passengers out and had sniffer dog teams inspect their belongings, the passenger told Radio Free Europe.

Pratasevich's luggage was "thrown out on the runway" and the reporter was taken aside.

"We asked him what was going on." the passenger said. "He told us who he was and added: 'A death penalty awaits me here.' He was a bit calmer, but trembling."

Eventually, he was taken away by the military, according to the source.

Here in the US, most understand the role of media for control, sway of emotions and the integrity of journalism went out the window long ago. Ignore the shills here. Rise above the bs and 'change channels' or adjust your antenna to a different frequency of understanding.

Not all journalists are equals. Some have sold their souls for (insert ____ fame, money, power,, etc). Many are being exposed for their true colors. No one gets out alive, we all are being tested… weighed…. judged.
