The Arizona Senate held a hearing last Thursday on latest developments in the Arizona Senate Audit of the 2020 Maricopa County election ballots.

This hearing was held after Arizona Senate President Karen Fann sent a letter to the Maricopa County election officials alleging the Maricopa Officials deleted an entire database directory from voting machines.

During the hearing the Cyber Ninja auditor Ben Cotton announced their team had recovered the deleted files from the voting machines.

US Capitol Doors on Jan. 6 Were Magnetically Locked – Someone Inside Capitol Security Had to Release the Lock to Open the Doors

Retired Marine: We’re on the top level now – about 15 feet from the doors just before they opened up. People are yelling and screaming. Everyone’s cheering, all kind of stuff. It’s chaotic. But we’re just kind of there. And then all of the sudden the doors open up from the inside. I have a picture taken about two seconds before the doors opened. And then I have a picture taken about six seconds later and the doors were open.

Jim Hoft: And they were not opened from the outside?

Retired Marine: They were opened from the inside. Now one of the stories I read recently was that some Marine, some Marine Major, went inside and managed to run around and open up the doors. And I think that was on your website, as well. But here’s what I can tell you about magnetic locks. If a door is locked by a mag lock it cannot be opened from the outside or the inside unless the person controlling that door opens that door by turning off the magnetic lock which those doors according to the photos I took are equipped with.

Retired Marine: Now these magnetic locks, I worked in the American embassy overseas. They are very, very strong.

Jim Hoft: I’m sure and they, you would think at the US Capitol they would have top security there.

Retired Marine: Now to give you an idea how strong they are, you could tie a chain to the handlebars of the door and tie it onto a truck. And you can take off with the truck and it is probably going to rip the door handles off but it is not going to open that door. The only way those doors can be opened if they want to be opened is from inside a security booth that is also equipped with a magnetic lock.

New Hampshire Election Auditors Find Ballot "Fold" Issue, Only 28% Of GOP Votes Counted In One Machine

Auditors for a 2020 election investigation being carried out in Windham, New Hampshire, are saying that some of their latest findings are “large enough to account for discrepancies” in the election results.

Auditors said they found “experimental confirmation that if the contest is undervoted, a fold through a vote target can create a vote.”

“Something we strongly suspect at this juncture, based on various evidence, is that in some cases, fold lines are being interpreted by the scanners as valid votes,” Mark Lindeman, part of the audit team, told WMUR.

Harri Hursti, another auditor, said on Twitter that testing proved folded ballots were misinterpreted by machines.

“Test decks proved that foldings across a vote targets is misinterpreted as additional phantom votes or subtracts votes due to false overvotes,” he wrote in a post.

Auditors finished the hand recount on May 21. The audit began on May 11.

AccuVote didn’t respond to a request for comment about the audit authorization by the Epoch Times. The AccuVote machines’ intellectual property are owned by Dominion Voting Systems.

Russia May Cripple Google Services Over Failure To Remove 'Illegal Content'

Russia may forcibly slow down Google services after the tech giant failed to remove 12 YouTube videos containing "illegal content" regarding unauthorized opposition rallies held in January 2021, according to the Moscow Times.

In response to demands by Russia's internet regulator Roskomnadzor to remove the 12 videos it says calls on minors to participate in unauthorized rallies, it has now emerged that Google filed its first-ever lawsuit against the regulator on April 23 in the Moscow Arbitration Court, which was accepted by the court on May 11. The first hearing is scheduled for July 14.

The case relates to content deletion requests Roskomnadzor sent to Google in January, when the regulator embarked on a high-profile campaign against a host of social media giants over a surge in the number of posts in support of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny following his return and detention in Russia.

Roskomnadzor requested both foreign and Russian technology companies, including Facebook, VKontakte, TikTok, YouTube and Twitter, delete tens of thousands of posts, videos and pictures it said was in violation of Russian laws. Content that Russia deems illegal ranges from posts promoting drug use or featuring child pornography to posts it says encourage under-18s to attend mass rallies. -Moscow Times

Roskomnadzor, meanwhile, has also called on Google to unblock a video on state-run Sputnik France regarding the spread of COVID-19, hilariously claiming in a May 22 letter that "such actions by the YouTube video hosting administration violate the key principles of free dissemination of information, unhindered access to it and are an act of censorship against the Russian media."

"The department demands to remove all restrictions as soon as possible, as well as explain the reasons for their introduction," the letter continues.

Google-owned YouTube has also faced pushback from Russia for blocking the channel of pro-Kremlin, Tsargrad TV, along with removing state-run RT videos which Google claims promote COVID-19 disinformation.

Russia’s competition authorities are also investigating Google for alleged abuse of its market dominance, and have sought to oust foreign companies’ dominance of the Russian software market through laws requiring Russian-made apps, such as browsers and search engines, to be pre-installed on all smartphones sold in Russia.

The regulator is also forcibly slowing-down Twitter and previously said it was prepared to ban the social media platform if it did not comply with Russia’s requests to remove content. -Moscow Times

More than 200 people injured after 2 trains collide in subway tunnel in Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur

The Malaysian transport minister has announced an investigation into the collision of two subway trains in the capital Kuala Lumpur on Monday evening, which injured as many as 213 people.

Wee Ka Siong said in a statement that 166 passengers suffered minor injuries, while 47 people in a serious condition were rushed to hospital for further treatment. No deaths have been reported.

At around 8:33pm local time, an empty light rail train and another carrying 232 people collided underground near the KLCC station.

Footage taken on one of the trains in the aftermath of the crash showed broken glass and distressed passengers, some of whom appeared to be covered in blood.

Wee said he was saddened by the crash, which he described as the first such incident in the LRT Kelana Jaya line’s 23-year history.

The minister also said that a special investigation committee led by the Ministry of Transportation had been set up, while the Land Public Transport Agency will compile a technical report on the incident.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in a statement that he had called for an investigation and said “strict action should be taken immediately” in response to the collision.

Trump impeachment witness suing Mike Pompeo and US for $1.8 million in legal fees

Gordon Sondland, Donald Trump’s former ambassador to the European Union, is suing the US government and Mike Pompeo for $1.8 million to cover legal fees incurred during the 2019 House impeachment investigation.

Sondland filed his federal lawsuit on Monday. He claims the former secretary of state did not live up to a “legally binding promise” for the federal government to pay for his legal fees during the first House impeachment investigation into Trump.

“Pompeo assured Ambassador Sondland that the State Department would reimburse him for all of his legal costs; and through the fall of 2019, Pompeo and his staff continued to reaffirm his promise,” the lawsuit states.

Despite incurring $1.8 million in fees after being forced to put his own legal team together, Sondland was only offered $86,000 in repayment, according to the suit.

Sondland says he was fired a few months after his testimony – related to alleged quid pro quo between Trump and Ukraine’s president – and he now “demands a jury trial” to address his current complaints. The former ambassador claims the promise to pay his legal fees was “reneged” on after the administration was displeased with his testimony in the House impeachment probe.

Trump’s House impeachment ultimately failed in the Senate, but Sondland did claim there was quid pro quo for which Trump was allegedly requesting an investigation into political rival Joe Biden in exchange for military aid.

“I know that members of this Committee have frequently framed these complicated issues in the form of a simple question: Was there a ‘quid pro quo?’ As I testified previously, with regard to the requested White House call and White House meeting, the answer is yes,” Sondland said in his opening statement last fall.

Sondland is requesting Pompeo or the State Department fork out his legal fees. He was let go from the White House on February 7, 2020, just hours after he claims he refused to resign following the administration being unsatisfied with his testimony.

Israeli prosecutors charge 3 Jewish suspects over 'attempted lynching' of Arab man pulled out of his car and beaten

Two Jewish men and an unnamed minor were indicted on charges of attempted murder and terrorism Monday over a brutal attack that landed an Arab man in hospital during the height of Israeli-Palestinian tensions earlier this month.

The victim, Saeed Mousa, was assaulted by a mob in the town of Bat Yam on May 12 as an exchange of strikes between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Gaza-based armed group Hamas provoked a wave of violent Jewish-Palestinian clashes inside Israel.

Mousa was dragged out of his car and harshly beaten with flagpoles and even an electric scooter in a shocking attack broadcast on live TV. The Israeli-Arab was taken to hospital in serious condition, but has reportedly improved.

On Monday, the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office charged Netanel Binyamin, 25, Lahav Ohanina, 18, and a 16-year-old minor, whose name couldn't be disclosed for legal reasons, over the attack on Mousa. In its statement, the prosecutors described the incident as an "attempted lynching".

The three have been indicted over the attempted murder of Mousa and face other charges ranging from aggravated intentional assault to causing a public disturbance and incitement to terrorism. They acted out of nationalist and racist motives, the prosecutors said.

The suspects are also believed to have taken part in an attack on an Arab-owned restaurant, while shouting "Death to Arabs," on that same day.

According to prosecutors, the trio were active members of a group on WhatsApp, which urged Jews to come to the promenade in Bat Yam in order to target Israeli-Arabs.

The Israeli public broadcaster Kan reportedly filmed Ohanina saying that he and the others took to the streets on May 12 “to fight with Arabs,” declaring “we will beat them; if necessary, we will kill them.”

On Sunday, the Israeli Justice Ministry announced that it had so far filed 140 indictments against around 230 people in relation to the clashes and rioting earlier this month. The ministry didn’t reveal the nationalities of the suspects, but the Jerusalem Post paper reported that only around 20 of them were Jews while the majority were Arabs.

New Findings on COVID-19 Origins Prove Big Tech Censorship is a Danger to Seeking Truth

In 2020, anyone who shared information on social media about anything related to COVID-19 and the lab in Wuhan, China or that mentioned the possibility that COVID-19 was man-made, saw their post removed and may have even been banned. Facebook, Twitter, Google, the establishment media, and many in the government made it their primary mission to “dispel misinformation” over the origins of the COVID-19 virus.

The arbiters of truth in Big Tech claimed and vehemently pushed the idea — based only on theories — that the COVID-19 virus originated in nature, and anyone who challenged or questioned this view was a dangerous conspiracy theorist.

Twitter even took to completely removing the account of a Chinese virologist who came forward with these claims. Dr Li-Meng Yan, who was reportedly a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Hong Kong School of Public Health, had her Twitter account suspended after she claimed the coronavirus was created in a lab and put forth a trove of data to back up her claims.

Just one year ago, CNN put out a hit piece claiming that “Anthony Fauci just crushed Donald Trump’s theory on the origins of the coronavirus.” Anyone who claimed otherwise was fact-checked into oblivion, their profiles banned, and if they had pages, their reach was diminished to nothing, if not entirely removed.

It was established. The fact checkers were correct and anyone who challenged them was a danger to society. But the fact checkers who dismissed this information did not do so with “facts” at all. Instead, they simply promoted one theory over another. And now, they are eating their words.

Last May, Washington Post’s Fact Checker team reported that the “balance of the scientific evidence strongly supports the conclusion that the new coronavirus emerged from nature,” and their article was used to warn readers on Facebook who may have shared information which challenged this theory.

However, as the Washington Post just reported, last week, a group of 18 preeminent scientists published a letter in the journal Science saying a new investigation is needed, because “theories of accidental release from a lab and zoonotic spillover both remain viable.”

Now, Dr. Fauci has changed his stance on the matter, stating that these claims of lab origination somehow hold water a year later — despite “crushing” them last year.

Earlier this month, Fauci spoke at a Poynter event where he was asked about the origination of the virus. Instead of repeating the same narrative he has for an entire year, he changed course and is now saying he is “not convinced” the virus developed naturally.

“No actually. I am not convinced about that. I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out to the best of our ability what happened,” Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, said, according to Fox News.

“Certainly, the people who investigated it say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could have been something else, and we need to find that out. So, you know, that’s the reason why I said I’m perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus,” he added.

“Do you think it’s possible that COVID-19 arose from a lab accident … in Wuhan, and should it be fully investigated?” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) a doctor, asked Fauci during a Senate hearing earlier this month. “That possibility certainly exists, and I am totally in favor of a full investigation of whether that could have happened,” he replied.

Pornhub tycoon’s wife wants him to cut ties with the company

The wife of the billionaire owner of Pornhub’s parent company wants her husband to cut ties with the smut platform that has been mired in controversy.

Priscila Bergmair told the Sunday Times that her husband, Bernd Bergmair — the 52-year-old majority owner of MindGeek — “wishes he was not in this” and expressed her “hope” for him to separate himself from the porn website.

MindGeek was hit with a federal class-action lawsuit in February, alleging the company hosted multiple rape videos of teen sex-trafficking victims.

The suit claims the company profited from the alleged videos and did nothing to verify the ages or consent of those depicted.

“It’s not easy. It’s something, maybe, that the government has to work on … making rules,” Priscila told the newspaper Friday outside the couple’s London pad.

“Everyone wants the best to be done. Because people have children. I have children now … We all want things to be right,” she said.

Priscila said she and her husband “had nothing to do” with the alleged content.

BLM Founder Says “Revolution” Will Not Be Through Ballot Box, Calls U.S. Flag “Symbol of Hate”.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors asserted the American flag is not a symbol she “stands by” in a 2015 video unearthed by The National Pulse.

Cullors, who recently went a real estate buying binge, also encouraged white supporters of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement to “infiltrate white supremacist groups” and lamented that “no elected official” will bring “revolution.”

The remarks come from a July 2015 interview with the radio program Uprising with Sonali.

Cullors and host Sonali Kolhatkar discuss the burning of the Confederate flag, which the BLM co-founder broadens to attack the American flag:

“I think that’s powerful. I also think it’s important that we talk about the American flag, which is a symbol of lots of hate as well, and I’ve really been appreciative of Black Lives Matter members who’ve said, yes the Confederate Flag is a terrible symbol of a particular historical moment, but the American flag is also a terrible symbol of our particular moment,” she notes.

Cullors also reveals that the American flag is not a symbol she “stands by”:

“I appreciate the Confederate flag burning, I think it’s a power symbol, and it’s really amazing to be alive watching people burn it down, and I want to question, too, are we saying then that the American flag is a symbol that we are standing by? It’s not a symbol I stand by.”

During the interview, Cullors describes how she voted for former President Barack Obama claims her preferred “revolution” will not come through the ballot box:

“I think I was too naive at that moment to really understand, like oh actually, Obama is not going to be the revolution. No elected official is going to be the revolution.”

While discussing BLM tactics, Cullors also encourages “white allies” to “infiltrate white supremacist groups”:

“White allies, I need you to take more risks. Some of you really need to contemplate infiltrating white supremacist groups, and that is a tactic that many anti-racist white people have done. They’ve infiltrated white supremacist groups as a way to be a detail, as a way to to tell other members.”

“So that is a call I’m really serious about,” she reiterates.

The unearthed video follows The National Pulse revealing Cullors celebrating praise for her work’s similarities to former Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong and comparing police officers to terrorists.

Congressman Mike Kelly Talks Pennsylvania Election Audit

"I think an audit here in Pennsylvania is really necessary and a great idea"

Congressman Mike Kelly came into the national spotlight last December when he led the charge against the fraudulent results of several contested states, including his native Pennsylvania, in the Supreme Court- a legal challenge which the Supreme Court denied, despite the merits of the case.

The announcement comes as momentum for an audit of Pennsylvania continues to grow, with many GOP political figures, notably US Congressional Candidate Teddy Daniels and State Senator Bob Mensch, already advocating for such an audit.

The announcement also comes as the Arizona audit continues to reap results, as ballot inaccuracies continue to rise. States such as Georgia, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin have also begun to audit their states as millions of Americans continue to question the results of the 2020 election and the legitimacy of the Biden regime.

When asked what inspired him to fight so vigorously for the President last December, Congressman Kelly replied that “I was inspired by the level of enthusiasm that was there for Donald Trump throughout the election. There were motorcades, boat parades, spontaneous rallies, so much enthusiasm. And most of the votes the night of November 3rd were for Trump, so the math didn’t add up. And I saw all of that and I said to myself ‘you know, this isn’t right,’ and that’s what ultimately inspired me to file that lawsuit.”

The Congressman went on to add that it was when that court case was thrown out that “people lost faith in the system, because that showed the people that there was no recourse.”

Joni Ernst (R-IA) said on Monday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily that the reasons for Hunter Biden’s flights through Joint Base Andrews should be investigated, remarking on revelations in Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow’s Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media’s Hidden Deals and Secret Corruption.

Breitbart News reported on Sunday, “According to Secret Service travel records obtained by Judicial Watch, then-Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter took 411 trips across 29 countries between 2009 and the middle of 2014. That includes 23 flights into or out of Joint Base Andrews—home to Air Force One and Air Force Two.”

Marlow asked, “I broke a story over the weekend that Hunter Biden had flown out of Joint Base Andrews 23 times while Joe Biden was vice president. He’d taken 411 trips, according to Secret Service travel records, including to 29 foreign countries. How do you fly out of Joint Base Andrews? Can I do that, or do I have to know someone if I want to fly?”

Ernst jokingly replied, “Sounds like, ‘Sure, why not?’ Sounds like just anybody can.”

In Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, Schweizer detailed Hunter Biden’s involvement with a China-backed private equity firm’s investment in a Chinese atomic energy company indicted for “nuclear power conspiracy against the United States.”

In 2020, Schweizer reported that emails from one of Hunter Biden’s business partners documented how the president’s second son used his access to the Obama administration “to arrange private meetings for potential foreign clients and investors at the highest levels in the White House.”

The private gatherings included a delegation of Chinese investors and Communist Party officials meeting with then-Vice President Joe Biden.

Top Senate Armed Services GOP Jim Inhofe: Troops Should Be Encouraged to Speak Out Against Marxism

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, the committee that oversees the United States military, issued a statement over the weekend in support of Air Force Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, who was relieved of his command at Space Force after warning about Marxism spreading in the military.

“Based on the information the committee has received so far and what’s been reported in the press, I am concerned. Members of our military should not only be able to speak out against Marxism, but they should be encouraged to do so — as long as they follow the rules and laws already in place,” Inhofe said in a statement.

“Marxism is an ideology that goes against everything this country stands for, and it belongs, as Ronald Reagan said famously, ‘on the ash-heap of history,'” he said.

Inhofe joins a growing chorus of Republicans expressing concern over Lohmeier’s firing, after he appeared on several podcasts to discuss his new book warning of Marxism spreading in the military. A Space Force spokesperson told Military.com, which first reported Whiting’s decision to fire Lohmeier, the decision “was based on public comments made by Lt. Col. Lohmeier in a recent podcast.”

“Lt. Gen. Whiting has initiated a Command Directed Investigation on whether these comments constituted prohibited partisan political activity,” the spokesperson said.

After a number of Republican members in the House and Senate called for Lohmeier to be reinstated, the service suspended its investigation into Lohmeier and is allowing the Air Force inspector general to look into the entirety of Lohmeier’s case and dismissal.

“I have many questions about how the Department has handled the case of Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, and I am glad the Air Force Inspector General is looking into this situation,” Inhofe said in his statement.

Inhofe also said he would continue looking into ways to protect service members “of all ideologies,” amidst allegations of bias against conservatives in the military. He said he would look into using the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) — the annual bill that authorizes the Pentagon’s budget and activities, to do so.

“As we await the results of the Inspector General investigation, I will continue looking into ways we can protect service members of all ideologies to ensure they have the freedom of speech and thought they are afforded as citizens of this country, including through the NDAA,” he said.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, also recently expressed concern about bias against conservatives in the U.S. military.

Arrests of ‘Chinese Spies’ at Top UK Universities Expected Within Weeks: Report

An investigation being conducted at the top levels of the British government into British academia is expected to result in the arrests of Chinese “spies”, who are believed to have passed military technological secrets to the communist regime in Beijing.

Foreign Office, Special Branch, and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) investigators have reportedly drawn up a list of British academics who are believed to have provided information on secretive technology which is thought to have been used by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to oppress ethnic minorities and political dissidents.

The investigation is expected to lead to arrests of academics within weeks, according to a report from the Mail on Sunday.

The report went on to reveal that the investigators have “established a correlation” between British universities which are heavily reliant upon tuition from Chinese students and the alleged technology transfers committed by the academics.

According to the MoS, the main institutions under investigation are Manchester University and Imperial College London — both of which earn around 26 per cent of their income from Chinese students — the universities of Liverpool and Sheffield (28 per cent), and Oxford and Cambridge, which earn some ten per cent of their income from Chinese students.

The paper did note, however, that currently there has been no indication that the universities themselves were involved in any wrongdoing or were aware of what the academics are alleged to have done.

It is believed that the unnamed British academics may have breached the 2008 Export Control Order, violations of which carry a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

Report: Tech Companies Are Fighting to Kill "Right to Repair" Bills in the US

Tech giants are big into sustainability. Except, it seems, when they aren't.

Tech companies talk a good game when it comes to sustainability, but as far as "Right to Repair" laws are concerned, they're not big fans. That's according to report from Bloomberg which claims that, despite dozens of states considering proposals intended to make it simpler to fix devices, tech companies are working overtime to stop them in their tracks.

The report notes that, in 2021 alone, 27 out of 50 states have considered Right to Repair bills. However, of these, more than 50% have already been "voted down or dismissed." That's bad news because no Right to Repair laws makes it harder to, fix devices which results in them being abandoned sooner.

Contributing to Electronic Waste Problem

This then contributes to the growing e-waste problem. If people held onto their smartphones for just one extra year this would reportedly be equivalent to taking 636,000 cars off the road in terms of the environmental damage it causes (or, in this case, wouldn't cause.)

Tech companies doing their best to quash this legislation include Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Apple—all of whom have advocated against these rules in various states. In some cases, the companies advocate directly. In others, they hire trade groups who can fight possible legislation on their behalf.

The report provides plenty of examples of how tech companies have exercised their power, such as Apple offering to endorse repair programs at local colleges as an exchange for killing a specific repair bill. Bloomberg writes that:

While tech companies face high-profile scrutiny in Washington, they quietly wield power in statehouses to shape public policy and stamp out unwelcome laws. Tech companies argue that right-to-repair laws would let pirates rip off intellectual property and expose consumers to security risks. In several statehouses, lobbyists told lawmakers that unauthorized repair shops could damage batteries on devices, posing a threat of spontaneous combustion.

A trade group called TechNet, which represents Apple and Google, among other tech firms, sent letters to lawmakers in multiple states. The letters said that allowing "unvetted third parties" to access "sensitive diagnostic information, software, tools, and parts" could put consumers in danger.

Over 35 Shot Friday into Saturday Night Across Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago

Over 35 people were shot, seven fatally, Friday into Saturday night across Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported the exact figure at 36 shooting victims, as of 10:30 p.m. central time Saturday night.

Two people were shot and killed Friday night just before 10:30 p.m. “in the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue. The shooting followed an argument, which resulted in a man opening fire on a 23–year-old woman and the 18-year-old male who was with her, killing both.

Another Friday night fatality was a 15-year-old Dajon Gater, who was shot and killed while on a front port in Lawndale.

Gater was on the porch just before midnight when two men approached on foot and opened fire, shooting him in the head. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Minutes later, just after midnight Saturday, a man was shot and killed while driving on the Eisenhower Expressway. (May 21, 2021, Breitbart News noted Chicago expressway shootings were up over 100 percent from where they were at that same time last year.)

Around 2 a.m. Saturday, two men were shot and killed while standing in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street. The men were 24 and 29-years-old.

Three people were standing on a sidewalk Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. when occupants of two separate vehicles opened fire on them, killing a 46-year-old man. The man was identified as Johnnie Williams.

NBC 5 observed that one of the other three victims “was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head.” The third victim was taken to the hospital with “a gunshot wound to the arm.”

The violence witnessed Friday into Saturday night followed a five-hour time-frame in which 17 were shot Thursday into Friday morning.

The Sun-Times pointed out 14 people were wounded and three were killed during those five hours.

Guidance on criteria for assessment of freedom from infection in covid-19

The Swedish Public Health Agency has developed national criteria for assessing freedom from infection in covid-19.

The PCR technology used in tests to detect viruses cannot distinguish between viruses capable of infecting cells and viruses that have been neutralized by the immune system and therefore these tests cannot be used to determine whether someone is contagious or not.

RNA from viruses can often be detected for weeks (sometimes months) after the illness but does not mean that you are still contagious. There are also several scientific studies that suggest that the infectivity of covid-19 is greatest at the beginning of the disease period.

The recommended criteria for assessing freedom from infection are therefore based on stable clinical improvement with freedom from fever for at least two days and that at least seven days have passed since the onset of symptoms.

For those who have had more pronounced symptoms, at least 14 days after the illness and for the very sickest, individual assessment by the treating doctor.

The criteria have been developed in collaboration with representatives of the specialty associations in infectious disease medicine, clinical microbiology, hygiene and infection control.

These have most recently been discussed in the group at a meeting on 19 April 2021 due to the new virus variants.

The assessment was then that no update was needed. The recommendations will be updated as new knowledge about covid-19 infectivity is added.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report calling for greater authority for itself in countries around the globe, a global surveillance system, as well as billions more dollars in financing for itself.

In a report released this month entitled, COVID-19: Make it the Last Pandemic, a group called the “Independent Panel” established by the WHO, analyzed the global response to the Wuhan Virus and delivered a strong message for international changes.

They state, “Our message is loud and clear: no more pandemics. If we fail to take this goal seriously, we will condemn the world to successive catastrophes.”

“On the basis of its diagnosis of what went wrong at each stage of the COVID-19 response, the Panel makes […] seven recommendations directed to ensuring that a future outbreak does not become a pandemic. Each recommendation is linked directly back to evidence of what has gone wrong. To be successful they must be implemented in their entirety.”

The panel is co-chaired Rt Hon. Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former President of Liberia and Nobel Laureate and includes eleven other professionals from around the world.

Patrick Wood, Editor in Chief of Technocracy News told LifeSiteNews that, were the recommendations of the report to be implemented, “the top political leaders of each nation would become the puppets of the WHO, whenever it decides to declare a pandemic.”

Wearable “Solutions” and the Internet of Incarceration

In recent years, calls for radical prison reform and a solution to the U.S.’ opioid crisis have come to permeate national politics in the United States. Especially since COVID-19, these electronic devices that can be worn as accessories, embedded in clothes or even implanted under the skin, are frequently heralded by corporations, academics and influential think tanks as “cost effective”, technological solutions to these deeply rooted problems.

Federal Reserve to Partner With MIT in Testing a Central Bank Digital Currency

Now we have Federal Reserve Board Governor Lael Brainard following up this morning with a speech on digital currencies via webcast at the Consensus by CoinDesk 2021 Conference, Washington, D.C. that even includes reference to an MIT-Federal Reserve test of a central bank digital currency.

Unlike central bank fiat currencies, stablecoins do not have legal tender status. Depending on underlying arrangements, some may expose consumers and businesses to risk. If widely adopted, stablecoins could serve as the basis of an alternative payments system oriented around new private forms of money. Given the network externalities associated with achieving scale in payments, there is a risk that the widespread use of private monies for consumer payments could fragment parts of the U.S. payment system in ways that impose burdens and raise costs for households and businesses. A predominance of private monies may introduce consumer protection and financial stability risks because of their potential volatility and the risk of run-like behavior. Indeed, the period in the nineteenth century when there was active competition among issuers of private paper banknotes in the United States is now notorious for inefficiency, fraud, and instability in the payments system.4 It led to the need for a uniform form of money backed by the national government.

To the extent that digital payments crowd out the use of cash, this raises questions about how to ensure that consumers retain access to a form of safe central bank money…

The Federal Reserve remains committed to ensuring that the public has access to safe, reliable, and secure means of payment, including cash. As part of this commitment, we must explore—and try to anticipate—the extent to which households' and businesses' needs and preferences may migrate further to digital payments over time.

Given the potential for CBDCs to gain prominence in cross-border payments and the reserve currency role of the dollar, it is vital for the United States to be at the table in the development of cross-border standards.

Democrats: Roe v. Wade blow would fuel expanding Supreme Court

Democratic senators say if the Supreme Court strikes a blow against Roe v. Wade by upholding a Mississippi abortion law, it will fuel an effort to add justices to the court or otherwise reform it.

The Supreme Court’s conservative majority this week agreed to hear the Mississippi case, which could dramatically narrow abortion rights by allowing states to make it illegal to get an abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

“It will inevitably fuel and drive an effort to expand the Supreme Court if this activist majority betrays fundamental constitutional principles,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“It’s already driving that movement,” he added.

Blumenthal said it doesn’t mean that a Congress led by Democrats would immediately be able to add justices to the court, but he suggested it would add momentum to reform efforts at a minimum.

“Chipping away at Roe v. Wade will precipitate a seismic movement to reform the Supreme Court,” he said. “It may not be expanding the Supreme Court, it may be making changes to its jurisdiction, or requiring a certain numbers of votes to strike down certain past precedents.”

No one knows for sure when the Supreme Court will hand down its decision on the Mississippi abortion law, but it is widely expected to hear arguments after it convenes in October. That could set up a decision next year.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), another member of the Judiciary Committee, said the court’s review of the Mississippi law raises serious concerns.

“It really enlivens the concerns that we have about the extent to which right-wing billionaire money has influenced the makeup of the court and may even be pulling strings at the court,” he said.

“We’ve got a whole array of options we’re looking at in the courts committee,” he said of the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States, which President Biden established by executive order in April.

Whitehouse said even if there isn’t enough support for expanding the Supreme Court by four seats, which is a proposal that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) introduced last month, other reforms could be pursued.

He cited “easy” reforms such as “proper disclosure and transparency” of the “gifts, travel and hospitality” received by the judges themselves and the “people who are behind front-group amicus curiae briefs” and who were "funding the political advertisements for the last three judges, writing $15 million and $17 million checks.”

Progressive activists argue that expanding the Supreme Court is the best way to tackle what they view as the court’s extreme ideological tilt.

Markey on Friday said trying to work with the “GOP packed” court would be futile.

David Barnea, former top agent, appointed next Mossad chief

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday that the next director of Israel’s Mossad espionage agency will be David Barnea, 56, a veteran of the organization who has been its deputy head for the past two years.

Barnea, who is also known by his nickname Dedi, will replace outgoing director Yossi Cohen, Netanyahu said at the annual ceremony conferring the Prime Minister’s Award for exceptional Mossad officers.

Barnea’s top task, the prime minister declared, “is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.”

The appointment of Barnea, a married father of four, was expected. He served as a combat soldier in the elite Sayeret Matkal commando unit and has been in the Mossad for the past 25 years, including in prominent operational roles that saw him rise to lead the branch that handles the organization’s agents worldwide.

He was appointed Cohen’s deputy in 2019, and will take over as director on June 1.

Molano made the statement in the context of alleged foreign intervention aimed at instigating internal political instability and mass protests in Colombia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Russia has more than once invited Colombia to enter into a dialogue in the field of international cybersecurity and it remains prepared for such cooperation, the Foreign Ministry said.

"If the Colombian side has confirmed evidence of cyberattacks and is genuinely interested in establishing their origin, there exist official channels of information exchanges and the corresponding infrastructure for this," the statement runs. "Russia's agency in charge is the National Center for Computer Incidents. At a certain point, the Russian agencies concerned presented a draft treaty on legal assistance, but the Colombian side refused to discuss it. Once again we are calling upon our partners to respond to our calls so as to avoid misunderstanding in the future."

Russia confirms its readies to cooperate with the Colombian counterparts on the whole range of issues for the sake of maintaining relations "in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect that have historically linked Russia and Colombia."

Earlier, Molano told the dailies El Mundo and El Tiempo Russia was behind protests in Colombia. The country has seen demonstrations against the tax reform since April 28. Unrest occurred in Bogota, Cali, Medellin and other cities. More than 1,900 people were hurt and no less than 42 others killed. The government eventually agreed to revise the reform plans. The minister of finance resigned, but the protests continued.

Babbitt was shot and killed by an unidentified law enforcement officer as she attempted to climb through a broken interior window in the Capitol Building, located outside the Speaker’s Lobby off the House Floor during the January 6 disturbance. She was unarmed. At the time of the shooting, several officers reportedly can be seen in videos, standing in the crowd of protestors in which Babbitt was present.

“The normal course of action in a police-related shooting is to quickly inform the public of the details – but the lack of transparency in the killing of veteran Ashli Babbitt in the U.S. Capitol is unprecedented and obviously political,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “That Judicial Watch must file a lawsuit for basic information after five months of stonewalling is a scandal.”

Knesset advances term limits for prime minister but speaker stops bill

MKs are also meeting to discuss a bill that would form a commission of inquiry to investigate the disaster at Mt. Meron on Lag Ba'omer.

The Knesset Arrangements Committee voted on Monday to advance bills that would limit prime ministers to eight years in office and prevent an indicted one from forming a government.

The bills targeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu advanced despite the opposition of Yamina, which said its MKs voted against them to protest other bills not being raised. Ra’am (United Arab List) MKs voted for both bills.

The decisions of the committee enabled the cooling-off period for the bills to be waived. But they will not be raised in the Knesset plenum in the next two weeks due to an arrangement between Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin and his deputies.

Yisrael Beytenu called Levin’s decision “hypocritical.” Opposition leader Yair Lapid said he would replace Levin immediately if he had the votes to do it. He would need a majority of 61 in the Knesset plenum.

The opposition got its revenge against Levin later on Monday by passing the appointment of new deputy Knesset speakers in the committee, who will be able to overrule him in key decisions due to their numerical advantage.

The bills would have to pass four times in the Knesset plenum and three more times in committee to pass into law, which could take several months.

Biden ICE Nominee Partnered With Chinese Propaganda Ministry

Joe Biden's nominee for immigration enforcement chief partnered with a Chinese government propaganda ministry on a 2014 public relations campaign to bolster the international image of Shanghai, a partnership that is now under scrutiny ahead of his Senate confirmation hearing.

Ed Gonzalez was a member of the Houston City Council and was serving as the city's mayor pro tem when he signed a cooperative agreement in October 2014 with Zhu Yonglei, the head of the Chinese government's Information Office of Shanghai, according to news reports and Gonzalez's Twitter posts at the time.

The "memorandum of understanding" between Gonzalez and Zhu was an "agreement to promote each of the partner cities for a year through a series of videos at strategic locations and on social media," according to China Daily. The deal was reportedly an expansion of an existing partnership intended to promote economic ties between Houston and Shanghai.

Gonzalez, who currently serves as the sheriff of Harris County, Texas, was nominated for director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement last month. But his involvement with the Chinese propaganda bureau has come under scrutiny ahead of his Senate confirmation hearing. The Washington Free Beacon reported last week that Gonzalez also took a 2015 trip to China that was bankrolled by an advocacy group for the EB-5 cash-for-visa program.

Zhu—who has since been promoted to deputy of Shanghai's propaganda department—praised the agreement at the time and said he "hope[d] this exchange will unite us together to promote the sustainable development of cities around the globe." Gonzalez tweeted a photo of him and Zhu signing the deal. Another photo from the event shows the two men standing next to each other while Gonzalez displays a framed photograph of Shanghai.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

China's State Council Information Office, which reports to the national Propaganda Department, "drafts the official ‘positive version' of events that the media must follow, and decides what arguments should be used to rebut stories in the international media that contradict the official propaganda line," according to Reporters Without Borders, a press freedom advocacy group.

The Shanghai municipal office seeks to "guide and coordinate the city's news reports for foreign audience[s]," "ensure the quality work for journalists from foreign countries," and "promote Shanghai to the outside world," according to its website.

Human rights groups have criticized China for its oppressive media environment. The country ranks 177th out of 180 countries on the Reporters Without Borders World Press Freedom Index. According to the media advocacy group, the Chinese government uses its propaganda bureaus to promote a "new world media order … with the aim of deterring and preventing any criticism of itself."

Before joining the Information Office, Zhu was the deputy coordinator for Shanghai's 2010 World Expo, the Chinese Communist Party's attempt to create its own world's fair. The event came under fire from human rights advocates after the government demolished an estimated 18,000 homes to make way for the exhibition site.

The Chinese Communist Party also arrested over 100 followers of Falun Gong, a religious group, ahead of the event, according to a U.S. congressional report. The report called the expo "the latest in a series of events that the Chinese government has seized upon as justification for ongoing ‘security' crackdowns that aim to ferret out and punish Falun Gong practitioners."

Biden’s Top Energy Regulator Lobbied for Company Behind Admin-Approved Wind Farm

FERC chair Richard Glick now working to aid Biden's green energy push

President Joe Biden's pick to lead a major federal energy agency spent years lobbying for the renewable power giant behind an offshore wind farm backed by the administration, a Washington Free Beacon review of disclosure forms found.

Shortly after his inauguration, Biden tapped Richard Glick to chair the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. From 2001 to 2016, Glick served as head lobbyist for Avangrid Renewables, the U.S. subsidiary of Spanish electric conglomerate Iberdrola. The company holds a 50 percent stake in Vineyard Wind, which is set to become the country's first large-scale offshore wind farm after the Biden administration approved the project on May 11.

Glick's elevation to chairman comes as a boon to Avangrid and other renewable power companies. The role grants Glick the authority to prioritize environmental projects that bolster the White House's green energy push and potentially enrich his former clients. The commission is also responsible for approving natural gas pipeline permits—a common target of environmentalists. Just weeks into his chairmanship, Glick announced the creation of a senior-level "environmental justice" position to determine if pipeline projects "unfairly impact historically marginalized communities."

The "environmental justice" metric has generated backlash from Congress amid rising gas prices. A bipartisan group of 25 senators in April called on Glick to ignore any "newly contemplated considerations" and "take timely action" on the 14 pipeline projects pending before the commission.

"These projects represent substantial private sector investment in our nation's economy and our workforce," the letter reads. "Delaying and moving the regulatory goalposts on projects filed in good faith is contrary to the otherwise equitable application of the Policy Statement that all stakeholders expect."

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission did not return a request for comment.

Glick is not the only top environmental official with ties to a green energy company championed by the Biden administration. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm holds up to a $5 million stake in Proterra, an electric bus manufacturer that Biden has promoted on multiple occasions. A slew of Biden's top donors also have sizable investments in the company, and Proterra recently turned to a pair of Obama administration alums to lobby the White House for funding.

In addition to Glick, deputy interior secretary nominee Tommy Beaudreau represented Vineyard Wind as a corporate attorney. Under federal ethics rules, Beaudreau is barred from participating in any "particular matter" involving his former clients for two years. The Biden appointee can, however, assert himself into deliberations pertaining to the wind industry as a whole.

Beaudreau's financial disclosure forms reveal long ties to the industry. Over the course of his time in the private sector, Beaudreau represented 10 of the 14 companies with active wind farm proposals before the department.

Avangrid spent about $6 million on its lobbying operation under Glick's direction, disclosures show. Glick transitioned back to the public sector in 2017, following a brief stint working for the Senate where he advised Democrats on renewable energy.

As a commission member, Glick in 2019 admonished his Republican colleagues for declining to act on an emergency waiver requested by Vineyard Wind. The waiver would have helped the offshore wind farm—located 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard—enter New England's multibillion-dollar electricity market. The commission later approved an agreement between Vineyard Wind and the region's grid operator in October.

A CNN story on Vineyard Wind published Sunday described the project as critical to Biden's pledge of achieving a carbon-free power sector by 2035.

Vijay Prashad’s new book Washington Bullets: A History of the CIA, Coups, and Assassinations, details how manufactured foreign threats have historically been used by the Agency to carry on a war against the Third World—in order to extend U.S. corporate dominance.

In a foreword, Evo Morales Ayma, the former president of Bolivia who was deposed in a 2019 U.S.-backed coup, writes that Prashad’s book is about “bullets that assassinated democratic processes, that assassinated revolutions, and that assassinated hope.”

Prashad is a distinguished political analyst who has authored important studies of imperial interventions, corporate capitalism, and Third World political movements.

His latest book synthesizes his wealth of knowledge. It includes personal revelations of ex-CIA agents such as the late Charles Cogan, chief of the Near East and South Asia Division in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations (1979–1984), who told Prashad that in Afghanistan, the CIA had “funded the worst fellows right from the start, long before the Iranian revolution and long before the Soviet invasion.”

Washington Bullets starts in Guatemala with the 1954 coup that overthrew Jacobo Arbenz, whose moderate land reform program threatened the interests of the United Fruit Company.

U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles’ law firm, Sullivan & Cromwell, had represented United Fruit, and Dulles and his brother, Allen, the head of the CIA (1953-1961), were large shareholders.

The former CIA Director Walter Bedell Smith became president of United Fruit after Arbenz’ removal, and President Dwight Eisenhower’s personal secretary, Ann Whitman, was the wife of United Fruit’s publicity director, Edmund Whitman.

After the coup, Arbenz’ successor, Castillo Armas stated that “if it is necessary to turn the country into a cemetary in order to pacify it, I will not hesitate to do so.”

The CIA assisted in the bloodbath by providing Armas with lists of communists and with the gift of its assassination manual.

This manual was later applied in operations directed against Third World nationalists such as Patrice Lumumba of Congo (1961), Mehdi Ben Barka of Morocco (1965), Che Guevara (1967) and Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso (1987).

Federal Court Strikes Down Georgia's Anti-BDS Law Forcing Americans to Pledge Allegiance to Israel

Filmmaker Abby Martin secured a major victory for free speech on Monday after a federal court ruled that her First Amendment rights were violated when she was blocked from speaking at Georgia Southern University in 2016 for refusing to "sign a contractual pledge to not boycott Israel" in compliance with Georgia's anti-Boycott, Divest and Sanctions law.

"I am thrilled at the judge's decision finding this law unconstitutional as it so clearly violates the free speech rights of myself and so many others in Georgia," Abby Martin said in a statement on Twitter. "My First Amendment rights were restricted on behalf of a foreign government, which flies in the face of the principles of freedom and democracy."

Martin continued: "The government of Israel has pushed state legislatures to enact these laws only because they know that sympathy and support for the population they brutalize, occupy, ethnically cleanse and subject to apartheid, is finally growing in popular consciousness – they want to hold back the tide of justice by preemptively restricting the right of American citizens to peacefully take a stand against their crimes."

The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Georgia), CAIR Legal Defense Fund and the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) today welcomed a "major victory" in their lawsuit against Georgia's Israel boycott law after a federal district court ruled that the State of Georgia's 2016 law punishing boycotts of Israel is an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment.

In an order released today, Judge Mark Cohen ruled that the University System of Georgia violated journalist and filmmaker Abby Martin's constitutional rights when it cancelled her speaking engagement on a college campus because she refused to sign a state-mandated oath pledging not to engage in boycotts of Israel. Martin is a well-known advocate of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, which the court ruled is protected by the First Amendment.

[NOTE: In 2016, Governor Nathan Deal signed into law SB 327, which requires any person or company that enters into a contract with the State of Georgia worth $1,000 or more to sign a loyalty oath pledging not engage in political boycotts of the Israeli government based on its treatment of Palestinians.]

In his 29-page decision, Judge Cohen identified extensive constitutional problems with Georgia's anti-BDS law. He held that the anti-BDS law "prohibits inherently expressive conduct protected by the First Amendment," which "burdens Martin's right to free speech." Judge Cohen also ruled that the anti-BDS law's requirement that Martin sign an oath to refrain from boycotting Israel is "no different than requiring a person to espouse certain political beliefs or to engage in certain political associations."

The court relied heavily on NAACP v. Claiborne, the Supreme Court's landmark decision protecting the right to boycott.

Remember #MeToo? Remember #TimesUp? It seems like a long time ago, after the interminable decade that was 2020, but all that Harvey Weinstein stuff happened just three and a half years ago. Weinstein’s plummet from grace in November 2017 set off an avalanche of accusations and recriminations in Hollywood, the effects of which can still be seen today. For example, right now on Netflix you can watch a blockbuster “zombie heist” movie in which one of the main characters was digitally replaced after filming wrapped, because the original actor was accused of creepy sex stuff.* That never would’ve happened back in the days when Weinstein was just a suspected pervert instead of a confirmed pervert. And if you grew up in the ’70s and ’80s, all I have to say is “Bill Cosby” and you don’t need to be told how much things have changed in the entertainment industry.

But once you’re exiled from showbiz, how long does it last? If you’re not in jail and you can still find somebody to hire you somewhere in the world, what’s anybody going to do about it?

The Italian film, called “L’uomo Che Disegno Dio” — or “The Man Who Drew God” — will be directed by Franco Nero. It will shoot in Italy and also star Nero’s wife, Vanessa Redgrave, sources said.

“I’m very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film,” Nero told ABC News. “I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie.”

Well, first of all, Spacey is a good actor, okay? He was always too hammy to ever be great, even before he was revealed to the world as a pedophile serial predator. But fine, he’s good, he’s great, whatever.

By deferring to the ADL's guidance on these matters, the US government is criminalizing the opinions of millions of Americans.

Heading into Passover, Bernie Sanders set Joe Biden free: The Vermont senator ended his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination on April 8, hours before the holiday began, leaving the former vice president the presumptive nominee.

Sanders’ formal endorsement five days later made Biden the lone candidate standing earlier than any non-incumbent nominee since John Kerry, who dispatched the field in March 2004.

That gives Biden a head start in his bid to oust Donald Trump from the White House, but Trump has some major advantages, notably in media play and fundraising.

The president has the pulpit of his daily White House pandemic news conferences, which often veer into campaign-style rhetoric. Biden, meantime, is confined to delivering daily pep talks from his Delaware home, where he barely registers online. There is the occasional exception, like the bro session on April 13 when Sanders endorsed Biden. That earned millions of views.

As to fundraising, The New York Times reported this week that Biden was behind Trump by $187 million, meaning he would have to raise $1 million a day until the election just to catch up with where Trump is today.

Which leaves a stew of questions about Biden’s Jewish campaign: Who will he turn to for fundraising? What does it mean for his foreign policy?

The last time Biden ran for president, in 2008, his financial director was Michael Adler, a Miami developer who is ensconced in the Jewish establishment: For years he led the straight down the center National Jewish Democratic Council and he’s been active with AIPAC. Adler is back on board the Biden train, although not in a senior campaign position. He has held fundraisers at his South Florida home.

Call Adler Biden’s Jewish old guard. He’s joined in that respect by an array of other establishment figures, including Comcast senior executive vice president David Cohen, who also has hosted fundraisers for Biden, and Stu Eizenstat, the veteran Holocaust reparations negotiator who penned an op-ed for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency favoring Biden.

But there are new Jewish kids on the Biden block, too. They earned their Democratic cred without having come up through the traditional pro-Israel channels, like accruing influence through AIPAC activism and fundraising.

Examples: Penny Pritzker and Bill Singer are headlining a Chicago area fundraiser for Biden on April 27. Pritzker, the hotel chain heiress whose brother J.B. is the governor of Illinois, was an early backer of Barack Obama and was his Commerce secretary. Singer, a corporate lawyer, is the wunderkind you forgot about: In the 1960s and 1970s, when he was in his 20s and 30s, he joined the Rev. Jesse Jackson in leading left-wing insurgencies against the Democratic Party establishment. These days he’s on the board of J Street, the liberal Middle East lobby group that is AIPAC’s bete noir.

Albania Jails Former General Prosecutor for Corruption

An Albanian court sentenced the country’s former general prosecutor to two years in prison for illegally purchasing property and later hiding financial information about his assets.

The court found Adriatik Llalla on Thursday guilty of "concealment and non-declaration of assets" Albanian officials must submit each year, local news outlets reported. The sentence by Albania’s Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime also prohibits Llalla from holding any public post for five years.

Llalla’s defense attorney Sokol Hazizaj argued that the charges against his client are “fabricated,” Euronews Albania reported. Llalla is expected to appeal the case.

Prosecutors began their investigation of the improper wealth declaration in 2018, after Llalla resigned from the position of general prosecutor in December 2017. Llalla’s apartment in the capital, Tirana, and the 5.4 acres of land that belonged to him—worth more than 98 million leks (US$900,000)—were seized at the time, according to the Associated Press.

In 2018, Llalla was barred from entering the United States due to his suspected involvement in corruption.

U.S. Ambassador to Albania Yuri Kim praised the country’s Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) for the sentencing on Thursday, writing on Twitter the case showed, “no one - no matter how powerful - is above the law.”

Albania, however, is still rated as one of Europe’s most corrupt countries by Transparency International, and has only made limited progress in combating corruption.

The country has taken steps to try to mitigate this issue, and in 2016 introduced judicial reforms to ensure judges and prosecutors met anti-corruption standards.

In February 2017, then-U.S. Ambassador to Tirana Donald Lu, called Llalla an “enemy of the reform”, Balkan Insight reported. Llalla is the first high-ranking person to be sentenced by the recently formed judicial institutions.

This comes as the U.S. State Department also sanctioned former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his immediate family members on Wednesday, citing "involvement in significant corruption."

Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin tweeted images of a large group of migrants apprehended Monday night near San Miguel. The group consisted of 124 migrants including 105 unaccompanied children.

Modlin stated that Tucson Sector agents normally apprehend groups of single adults. This group of unaccompanied children was outside the norm.

During Fiscal Year 21, which began on October 1, 2020, through the end of April, Tucson Sector agents apprehended just over 100,000 migrants — an increase of 167 percent over the previous year’s 37,559. Of those, only 8,967 were unaccompanied minors.

Also last week, Douglas Station agents assigned to the horse patrol unit encountered a group of 32 Mexican nationals who illegally crossed the border near the Arizona/New Mexico state line in the southeast corner of the state.

Modlin tweeted a photo showing the migrants wearing camouflage clothing in an attempt to blend into the surroundings.

Earlier this month, Modlin welcomed the newest members of the sector’s horse patrol units.
