Israeli Mossad Agents Reportedly ‘Tampered’ With Hamas Rockets So Hundreds ‘Misfired’
During the course of the most deadly spiral of violence the region had seen in years, Hamas was estimated to have fired more than 4,000 short-range rockets at the territory of Israel, with the IDF launching airstrikes on the Gaza Strip before the sides accepted an Egyptian initiative for an unconditional ceasefire, which came into force on 21 May.
Tel Aviv reportedly enlisted its agents to carry out covert operations to “sabotage” hundreds of Hamas rockets before they were fired from Gaza during the recent escalation of Israeli-Palestinian violence, reported The Mirror.
“Israel probably has the most penetrative espionage capability in the world. Its intelligence community has pulled off some breathtaking operations deep inside enemy territory, including assassinating Iranian scientists. It is very likely a number of those rockets were intercepted and altered,” a source was cited by the outlet as saying.
Israel’s national intelligence agency, Mossad, is claimed to have targeted the rockets, either as they were smuggled in parts from Iran to Gaza, or directly inside the Palestinian enclave itself, according to a senior Western intelligence source, cited by the outlet.
Israeli spies “spiked” hundreds of rockets by tampering with the guidance systems, motors, warheads or explosive material inside the missiles, alleged the report.
Accordingly, it was claimed that as many as 16 percent of the estimated over 4,000 launched by Hamas had misfired in Gaza or fell short of the Israeli border.
The 680 misfires amid the 11-day cross-border missile exchange purportedly resulted in some civilian deaths in Gaza.
Israel’s Iron Dome defence system can be reportedly credited with having intercepted 90 percent of incoming Hamas missiles. As for the timing of the alleged covert sabotage operations, they are suggested as most likely taken place months ago.
According to the outlet, militants of Hamas, the Islamic group that controls the Gaza Strip, have been stockpiling missiles over the past years. Israel is cited as claiming Hamas has enough missiles left for another two months.
Both Sides Claim ‘Victory’
As the Egypt-brokered ceasefire struck on 21 May between Israel and Hamas continues to hold, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the 11-day targeting of Gaza as an "exceptional success".
Pledging a “new level of force” in response to any further attacks, he added:
“If Hamas thinks we will tolerate a drizzle of rockets, it is wrong.”
A senior Hamas figure, Khalil al-Hayya, told a celebratory crowd shortly after the truce: “This is the euphoria of victory."

Military Coup Underway In Mali: President and Prime Minister Arrested
Mutinous soldiers surrounded the private residence of Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on Tuesday, firing shots into the air in what marked the beginning of a coup attempt currently underway following several months of demonstrations calling for his resignation.
According to a security source and an official in the prime minister’s office, mountaineering soldiers rounded up an unconfirmed number of senior civilians and military officials from the capital and drove them back to their base.
Reports that the mutineers had arrested President Keita swept Bamako, prompting hundreds of anti-government protesters to pour into a central square to celebrate and to call for his resignation.
“This is a memorable day for the youth of Mali, as you can see yourself.”
“We are tired, the country is paralysed and I do not want this government,” they chanted.

How it got here…
Today’s dramatic escalation has capped off a day of political chaos in Mali, where the U.N. and former colonizer France have spent more than seven years trying to stabilize the country since a 2012 coup allowed an Islamic insurgency to take hold in the West African nation.
The unrest kicked off earlier in the day in the garrison town of Kati, where the previous coup originated under similar circumstances eight years earlier.
The soldiers took weapons from the armoury at the barracks and then detained senior military officers.
Anti-government protesters cheered the soldiers’ actions, some setting fire to a building that belongs to Mali’s justice minister.

Prime Minister Boubou Cisse, who was believed to be sheltering with Keita, urged the soldiers to put down their arms and puts the interests of the nation first, insisting there is no problem whose solution cannot be found “through dialogue”.
Earlier in the day, government workers fled their offices as armed men began detaining officials including the country’s finance minister Abdoulaye Daffe.

“Officials are being arrested — it’s total confusion,” an officer at Mali’s Ministry of Internal Security, is quoted as having spoken on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to journalists.
Mali’s president, who was democratically elected and has broad support from former colonizer France and other Western allies, was believed to be sheltering at his private residence in Bamako’s Sebenikoro neighbourhood along with the Prime Minister.

Biden Spox Deflects Over Wuhan Bombshells During Tense Exchange
The White House on Monday deflected after Fox News' Peter Doocy put spox Jen Psaki on the spot following a Wall Street Journal report that three workers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology fell ill with COVID-19 symptoms in December of 2019, bolstering the lab-leak theory for the origins of the pandemic.
"Why isn't President Biden pushing for more access, more information to get to the bottom of exactly what happened," asked Doocy.
"We are," replied Psaki, adding "and we have repeatedly called for the WHO to support an expert-driven evaluation of the origins. During that first phase of the investigation there was not access to data, there was not information provided. And now we're hopeful that WHO can move into a more transparent independent phase II investigation."
Doocy shot back - "But with 589,920 dead Americans, at what point does President Biden say 'we don't want to wait for the WHO. We don't know what they're doing. This needs to be an American-led effort to get to the bottom of what happened.'"
"He talks all the time about how he's known President Xi for a long time. So why can't he just call and ask?"
Psaki: "You're misunderstanding how this process works. An international investigation led by the WHO is something that we've actually been pressing for for several months, in coordination with a range of partners from around the world. We need that data, we need that information from the Chinese government. What we can't do… is leaping ahead of an international process. We don't have enough data to come to a conclusion at this time."
Doocy: "So is there any amount of casualties from covid that would make you not want to wait for an international effort and just do it?"
The White House has repeatedly resisted forming an opinion over the growing lab-leak hypothesis, insisting that it would wait for a 'complete and independent investigation' from the World Health Organization - the same WHO which conducted a laughable Wuhan roadshow months ago that concluded COVID-19 likely emerged via natural origin. And who was the most prominent member of said WHO 'investigation' by far?
