Russia just launched one of her two airborne nuclear command posts and has it squawking on ADSB for all to see. Flying as AZAZ0909

We have an E4B ODIN98 in the air as well as lots of other strategic birds. At one point, we had two E4s up at the same time as 82-8000 (ex-AF1) was conveniently away from DC doing touch and goes at Newport News. It's an E4 in a tux basically.

The past two days this PF has noticed a dramatic shift in the military sortie patterns. Will outline in another post. This is to call out the Russian CP airborne.

The only time I've seen a Russian military a/c squawk in the clear on ADSB is when transiting European airspace in or out of Russia.

This is the first time I've seen it on one of their strategic nuclear command posts and he's flying east (staying in Russia).

The past two days have been noticeably busier with executive meeting birds, brass birds, international military visit flights from a variety of countries to other countries, and a lot more and more steady coverage of strategic command posts E6s, E4s, RC135s…as well as snoopers of all kinds all over.

Could've been assigned to them. The more curious thing is they filed and are squawking. They NEVER do this.

They want to send a clear signal that they're ready to go the mat if that's what it takes. That's my read on it anyways.
