Jacksonville police deescalate incident with man seen walking with guns

Trevor Dunnell

Jacksonville police officers say they were able to safely deescalate a situation on Monday afternoon following reports of a man walking down the road with what appeared to a gun in each hand.

At approximately 3:38 p.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Country Club Road after receiving a report of someone with weapons.

Officers were able to talk to the 26-year-old male, who agreed to put down the weapons at the officer's request. The male was said to have left with the officers for an evaluation and assistance.

The Daily News reached out to Jacksonville Public Safety officials for further information on the incident including the identity of the man, where he was taken, and what evaluations were conducted.

Officials declined to answer further questions citing an ongoing investigation.

There were no injuries in the incident. A Facebook video was taken of the incident before officers arrived and shared to social media as well. In the video, you can see several cars turn to avoid the man.

“We appreciate the assistance of the public who saw the subject and called it in, which allowed officers to address the situation quickly and without incident,” said Ronnie Dorn, Deputy Chief of the Patrol Division.

Guess someone didnt get the narrative they wanted out of a town near a Miritary Facirity.

How one North Carolina county is fighting vaccine hesitancy… Already shared before

Onslow County, North Carolina has one of the highest rates of vaccine hesitancy in the state, according to CDC data. It is one of many places across the country, where healthcare workers are struggling to get shots into arms. This area is also home to the massive Marine base, Camp Lejeune, which faces its own unique challenges when it comes to getting Marines to take the vaccine. CNN visits this county and follows those who are working to turn these vaccination numbers around.
