It means the string ‘yes’ is the same thing as:
yes
which could be another function, parameter, object or variable.
And so forth

I took a crash course in javascript I’m not even a novice I just know that the stuff in parentheses are generally arguments passed along to functions.
The == means something is equal to or another way of saying this means that. With numbers it’s only one = sign unless it’s a string eg ‘2’ instead of 2 (the number).

So if it is a string it would be
this == ‘2’; //string
Instead of:
that = 2; //number

this == ‘text’; //strings are within single quotes
Instead of:
that = 2; //numbers are never in quotes unless they values
