GOP group hits House Democrats on Israel as Republicans reel from Marjorie Taylor Greene

A political nonprofit organization aligned with House Republican leadership is running digital advertisements accusing Democrats of abandoning Israel one day after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene came under fire for comparing the Holocaust to coronavirus vaccine mandates.

The American Action Network is targeting 14 House Democrats who voted against increasing crucial military aid to Israel as the Jewish state endured indiscriminate rocket fire from Hamas, a jihadist terrorist group. The “five figure” campaign includes advertising on digital platforms and an organized effort to flood the offices of the Democrats in question with phone calls. Republicans are hoping to turn Democratic divisions over Israel into an advantage in the 2022 midterm elections.

“It’s appalling that liberals in Congress sided with the radical left, over additional funding to help keep Israel safe and secure,” Dan Conston, president of the American Action Network, said in a statement.

The new ad campaign comes on the heels of egregious comments from Greene. In interviews and tweets, the Georgia Republican asserted that government and corporate mandates enforcing COVID-19 vaccinations and the wearing of protective masks are tantamount to Nazi Germany’s roundup and genocide of 6 million European Jews. She has not backed down, despite sparking an aggressive backlash from prominent Jewish Republicans and House GOP leaders, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California.

Greene’s remarks distracted from Republican attacks on prominent Democrats in Congress who were critical of Israel during recent fighting against Hamas.

Many Democrats are blaming Israel for the terrorist attacks committed by Hamas, claiming it stems from Jerusalem’s mistreatment of the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Some prominent Democrats even tried to block aid to Israel to replenish the Iron Dome system that allows the Jewish state to pick off Hamas rockets in mid-air that target civilians and are fired from Gaza. The American Action Network is attempting to steer the conversation back in this direction.
