White House finalizing plans for President Biden to meet with Queen Elizabeth II in June: report
Biden would become the 13th U.S. president the queen has met over the years.
The White House is finalizing arrangements for President Joe Biden to meet with Queen Elizabeth II when he travels overseas in June, an American official reportedly said.
CNN reported that the meeting is expected to occur prior to when Biden departs from the UK after the Group of 7 summit and travels to Brussels for a NATO meeting.
Biden would become the 13th U.S. president the queen has met over the years. She met with Harry Truman while still a princess and with nearly every other president since then — she did not meet with with Lyndon B. Johnson while he was president.

34th candidate assassinated in Mexico ahead of June 6 vote
A mayoral candidate has been killed in Mexico, bringing to 34 the total number of candidates murdered nationwide ahead of June 6 legislative elections that will fill thousands of local seats and nearly half of the country’s governors.
Alma Barragan was shot dead on Tuesday, local media reported, while campaigning for the mayorship of the city of Moroleon in the violence-plagued state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. Two other people were reportedly injured.
On Wednesday, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the killing was “without doubt” the work of organised criminal gangs who were killing candidates to scare voters away from the polls.
“When there is a lot of abstentionism, the mafias dominate the elections,” Lopez Obrador said during his daily news conference.
Experts say drug gangs want to place sympathetic candidates in town halls and city governments, so they can operate without interference from police and extort money from local businesses and government budgets.
They also say violence during elections is not new.
“There’s always been violence with elections and electoral cycles especially at the mayoral level where you really see things get heated, but this time it feels like it’s way more than ordinary,” said Gladys McCormick, a history professor at Syracuse University and expert on security.
“It’s a testament of the influence of organised crime with these local elections trying to sway the institutions,” McCormick told Al Jazeera, “organised crime has infiltrated municipalities, law enforcement at the municipal levels,” she said. “This is working its way up.”

New Report and Scorecard Shows Which Retailers Are Using Facial Recognition on Shoppers, Employees
Shoppers planning to take advantage of Memorial Day sales should know which stores are using racist, dangerous surveillance technology.
Digital rights group Fight for the Future has launched a new website and scorecard that tracks whether or not top retailers use, don’t use, or might use facial recognition on people in their stores. Walmart, Albertsons, Kroger, Lowes, and Macy’s are among the stores flagged as using facial recognition on shoppers and workers. Walgreens, McDonald’s, 7-11, and Best Buy are among retailers that have not clarified their policies. Home Depot, Target, Costco, CVS, Dollar Tree, and Verizon confirmed to Fight for the Future that they are not using facial recognition in their stores.
Walmart says it uses the technology to reduce shoplifting. An Albertsons in Albuquerque used facial recognition on a shopper who had allegedly stolen from the store in the past. And Kroger, Lowes, and Macy’s have all faced lawsuits for using facial recognition in stores in Illinois, where the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act makes it illegal to do so without consent.

"Change Is Coming" - Engine No. 1 Wins Two Exxon Board Seats
Activist firm Engine No. 1 has won at least two seats on the board of Exxon Mobile Corp. following a multi-month battle over the oil giant's board of directors to change the company's path towards one centered around achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or sooner, according to WSJ.
Engine No. 1, an upstart hedge fund, owns a tiny 0.02% stake in Exxon, has gone on a blitz against the company since December to shift away from fossil fuels to a zero-carbon world. The fund was founded by veteran hedge fund investor Chris James.
Charlie Penner, one of Engine No. 1's leaders, told investors at Wednesday's annual shareholder meeting that Exxon management is "determined to fight off the future for as long as possible," but added: "change is coming."
According to Reuters,BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, owns a 6.7% stake in Exxon and gave full support to Engine No. 1 mission to force new change on the company's board. The activist fund won support from Legal & General, one of Exxon's top 20 investors. They also gained support from large pension funds, including CalPERS, calSTRS, and New York State Common Retirement Fund.
Engine No. 1 pushed to add four new members to Exxon's board. A tally so far shows the activist fund has won at least two seats.
Wednesday's vote came during Exxon's annual shareholder meeting, where CEO Darren Woods responded to questions about Exxon's investments in carbon capture technology.
“ExxonMobil is in a strong position to create differentiating value throughout the energy transition,” CEO Darren Woods said, touting Exxon's oil-and-gas portfolio and its investment in climate technologies.
"We welcome the new directors Gregory Goff in Kaisha Hietala to the board and look forward to working with them constructively and collectively on behalf of all shareholders," Woods said.
Exxon shares have collapsed over the past few years but have doubled off the double-bottom lows of March and October of last year…

General Flynn said his intuition is telling him that Covid was a weaponized operation by China.
“I believe something has happened,” Flynn said. “My intuition tells me….We’ve had over a year of people all over the world having to answer tough questions,” Flynn said Wednesday on 1320 AM WJAS.

Fauci 'Categorically' Denies NIH Funded 'Gain-of-Function' Research at Wuhan Lab
Senator Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci have been at war in recent months over the argument that the United States funded “gain-of-function” research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Fauci continues to deny his beloved National Institutes of Health would have funded something so dangerous.

Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told a House Appropriations subcommittee that the money was funneled to the Chinese lab through the non-profit EcoHealth Alliance to fund “a modest collaboration with very respectable Chinese scientists who were world experts on coronavirus.”
But Fauci emphatically denied that the money went toward so-called “gain of function” research, which he described as “taking a virus that could infect humans and making it either more transmissible and/or pathogenic for humans.”
“That categorically was not done,” he insisted.
Oh, really? NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins told Rep. Andy Harris that researchers at Wuhan “were not approved by NIH for doing ‘gain-of-function research.'” Not approved? Does Fauci or any other man of science believe that the Chinese Communists didn’t take that money and spend it on anything they wanted to at the lab?
Fauci, as usual, is playing the politician more than the scientist. And he’s awful at both of them.
The Chinese army carried out secret projects at the Wuhan lab using lab personnel. Those employees were paid with U.S. tax dollars. That’s why Senator Paul wrote the amendments that not only banned U.S. funding of the Wuhan lab, but also any taxpayer support for gain-of-function research in China.
“We don’t know whether the pandemic started in a lab in Wuhan or evolved naturally,” said Dr. Paul. “While many still deny funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan, experts believe otherwise. The passage of my amendment ensures that this never happens in the future. No taxpayer money should have ever been used to fund gain-of-function research in Wuhan, and now we permanently have put it to a stop.”
Senate Amendment 2003 bans the National Institutes of Health and any other U.S. agency from funding any gain-of-function research in China.
The amendment defines gain-of-function research as “any research project that may be reasonably anticipated to confer attributes to influenza, MERS, or SARS viruses such that the virus would have enhanced pathogenicity or transmissibility in mammals.” This is the same definition the NIH used when implementing a funding moratorium on gain-of-function research in 2014-2017.
Given what we know about the sloppiness and carelessness of lab personnel in Wuhan, a leak of a naturally occurring virus was always a distinct possibility. The Chinese government’s subsequent actions strengthen that belief. They may not have any better idea of the origin of the coronavirus than anyone else. But it’s clear that they feared it was a leak from the start. They covered up the three serious illnesses among lab workers from November 2019, destroyed medical records, denied the WHO team full access to the lab and its records, and continue to this day to obstruct investigations into the origins of the virus.
China may be the most guilty-looking innocent party in history. Or they may know a lot more than they’re letting on.

Biden’s ATF Nominee Says He Wants To Ban AR-15s
President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms said during a confirmation hearing that he supports a ban on one of the most popular guns sold in the United States.
“With respect to the AR-15, I support a ban, as has been presented in a Senate bill and supported by the president,” David Chipman told Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
The Ruger AR-556, a similar model to the Colt AR-15, was the best-selling semi-automatic rifle in the United States for the first five months of 2020, according to the National Shooting Sports Federation.
“The AR-15 is a gun I was issued on ATF’s SWAT team and it’s a particularly lethal weapon and regulating it as other particularly lethal weapons I have advocated for,” Chipman continued.
“So you want to ban the most popular rifle in America?” Cruz asked in reply. “A minute ago, you noted there is a Senate bill. Sen. Feinstein had a bill to ban some 2000 specified rifles and other firearms in her bill. In 2013, the Democrats had a majority in the Senate, Harry Reid’s Senate. And we voted on the Senate floor on Senator Feinstein’s so-called assault weapon ban. Do you know how many senators voted for it?”
“40. 60 voted against it. So in a Democratic Senate, a supermajority voted against a ban,” Cruz explained, after Chipman said he was not aware of the vote total
“So you also said, when you and I talked yesterday in the office, that Sen. Feinstein’s bill, which a super majority of senators voted against in a Democratic Senate, you said that bill didn’t go far enough and you wanted an even broader ban. You said it didn’t go far enough. Is that right?” Cruz asked.
Following the 2012 Sandy Hook mass shooting, Feinstein declared, “getting this bill signed into law will be an uphill battle, and I recognize that — but it’s a battle worth having.”
