Alejandro Mayorkas: U.S. Taking ‘a Very Close Look’ at Vaccine Passports for International Travel

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the United States is taking a “very close look” at the idea of requiring vaccine passports for travelers coming in and out of the U.S., according to reports.

Speaking to ABC on Friday, the Homeland Security secretary appeared open to the concept of requiring a vaccine passport for international travelers. He appears to justify the idea with his devotion to ensuring that “the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion” are central in vaccine distribution. In other words, officials must ensure that “any passport that we provide for vaccinations is accessible to all and that no one is disenfranchised,” Mayorkas said.

“Everyone should get vaccinated,” he added.

Republican officials have already begun to take action against the use of vaccine passports. Earlier this month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a measure, Senate Bill (SB) 2006, banning the use of vaccine passports in the Sunshine State.

“In Florida, your personal choice regarding vaccinations will be protected and no business or government entity will be able to deny you services based on your decision,” Desantis said at the time.

His administration is currently in the midst of a battle with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the cruise industry over vaccine passports, as the CDC recently cleared a Celebrity Cruises ship to set sail out of Port Everglades. However, all guests 16 and over must be “fully vaccinated.”

“Companies doing business in Florida, including Celebrity Cruises, should immediately cease to impose such discriminatory policies upon individuals,” DeSantis said, noting they will be subject to a $5,000 fine “each time they require a customer to present a ‘vaccine passport’ for service.”

“We look forward to seeing Celebrity Cruises set sail in compliance with Florida law,” the governor added.

Similarly, in the neighboring state of George, Gov. Brian Kemp (R) took action, signing a measure effectively banning the use of vaccine passports in the Peach State — a protocol which extends to schools, kindergarten through the university level.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) has also signed a measure, Senate Bill 267, preventing vaccine passports in the Yellowhammer State.

The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) Vaccine Monitor’s May survey shows that one in five Americans do not plan to get vaccinated, with seven percent of those indicating they only will “if required.” The other 13 percent said they will “definitely not” get vaccinated.

Sen. Tom Cotton: Writing Bestselling Books like ‘Breaking the News’ Exposing Media Corruption Is the ‘Best Thing We Can Do’ to Fight It

The best way to combat the incestuous and corrupt relationships between news media and political figures is to “write bestselling books exposing all of these linkages,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said on Friday, referring to Breitbart News Editor in Chief Alex Marlow’s Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media’s Hidden Deals and Secret Corruption.

Cotton spoke with Marlow on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily.

Marlow highlighted two examples of conflicts of interest presented by marriages between news media persons and current and prospective Biden administration officials.

“It is anticipated that Biden is going to nominate a guy named Tom Nides to be the ambassador to Israel, and he’s someone who is part of the Biden Institute at Delaware, and I think is a Morgan Stanley guy — Democrat establishment all the way — but what’s more interesting to me is that he’s married to the vice president of newsgathering at CNN, named Virginia Moseley.”

He added, “The type of thing I’ve been documenting in my book Breaking the News is how much of the media establishment is literally in bed with the Biden administration. The deputy press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, is married to another CNN anchor, Suzanne Malveaux. It’s just too much, but again, all this stuff … are we supposed to roll our eyes at it? Is there anything that they can be done about it? It just seems like it’s going too far for me.”

Cotton replied, “Alex, I think the best thing to do about it is to write best-selling books exposing all of these linkages, which you’ve done, so congratulations.”

Cotton noted the overlap of familial relations between many people in politics and news media, a phenomenon former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) jokingly described as beyond “incestuous” and amounting to an “orgy.”

He continued:

In a surprising number of instances, Democratic officials who go in and out of government and then go to be lobbyists and go back to government are married to or related — say, brothers of — [people] who are anchors, producers, executives, people who shape the news and shape the coverage of what happens in Washington, and most Americans still don’t know that.

Public familiarity with conflicts of interest across news media and political through familial, financial, and personal relationships is increasing, Cotton held, “[because] you’ve got websites like Breitbart to expose these things; you have social media to expose them.”

He concluded, “It is a surprisingly close relationship between the Democratic party and the media that covers the party and shapes the news.”

Kennedy: Biden Business Dealings Sends Message that ‘American Foreign Policy Can Be Bought Like a Sack of Potatoes’

Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) hammered President Joe Biden for recent revelations showing he appeared to lie about not having any knowledge of his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings.

Biden has denied knowledge of Hunter’s dealings, saying in 2019 on the campaign trail, “I have never discussed, with my son or my brother or with anyone else, anything having to do with their businesses. Period.” A photograph and recent reporting seem to contradict that claim.

Kennedy told host Sean Hannity that the message sent to the world by then-Vice President Biden meeting with his son’s foreign business associates is that “American foreign policy can be bought like a sack of potatoes.”

“Joe Biden denied any knowledge of Hunter’s foreign dealings, business dealings. We now know he lied, Senator. What should the consequences be?” Kennedy asked.

“Well, President Biden needs to address this issue,” Kennedy replied. “President Obama put him in charge of the foreign affairs of two countries, China and Ukraine. And in both cases, his son walked away with millions of dollars worth of contracts.”

Mental Health and Climate Change Are Linked, Most Pressing Issues, Claims Prince Harry

Prince Harry has claimed that mental health and alleged manmade climate change are linked and that both are the most important issues in the world.

The Duke of Sussex made the remarks during an episode of the Apple TV series The Me You Can’t See, released on Friday.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, the co-producer of the six-episode documentary series, Prince Harry said, according to The Mirror: “I believe even more that climate change and mental health are two of the most pressing issues that we’re facing and, in many ways, they are linked.

“The connecting line is about our collective well-being and when our collective well-being erodes, that affects our ability to be caretakers of ourselves, of our communities and of our planet ultimately.”

He went on to claim that there should be a moment of “reckoning” post-pandemic regarding global warming and for action to be taken. He also claimed that it was “pretty depressing” that in some parts of the world, “your home country is either on fire” or it is “underwater”.

In confusing remarks mixing the topics of climate change, social media, and the pandemic, Harry said:

“With kids growing up in today’s world, pretty depressing, right, depending on where you live, your home country is either on fire, it’s either underwater, houses or forests are being flattened.

“Climate change is really playing a huge part in this as well as social media, and we just don’t — well, I mean, I know lots of people out there are doing as best they can to try and fix these issues — but that whole sort of analogy of walking into the bathroom with a mop when the bath is over-flooding, rather than just turning the tap off.

“Are we supposed to accept that these problems are just going to grow and grow and grow and then we’re going to have to adapt to them and build the resilience amongst the next generation and the next generation and the next generation?

“Or is there really a moment, a reckoning moment, post-Covid, where we can actually look at each other, look at ourselves and go ‘we need to do better about stopping or allowing the things that are causing so much harm to so many of us at the source, rather than being distracted by the symptom’.”

Despite often touting his green credentials, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle had come under criticism for their jet setting lifestyle, such as in August 2019 when they had taken four trips on private jets in the span of 11 days, including trips from the UK to Nice in France and Ibiza in Spain.

Finland Interior Ministry Considers Letting Police Wear Hijabs as Official Uniform

Finland’s Ministry of the Interior is investigating the possibility of letting female officers wear hijabs as part of their police uniform.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Kirsi Pimia stated that an investigation into the matter started last year but was ultimately not completed.

Finland has maintained a ban on any religious, political, or ideological symbols in police and military uniforms, justifying the ban by stating that police officers must remain to be seen as neutral parties, broadcaster YLE reports.

“We are now considering and weighing whether to exclude certain groups from these principles,” Secretary Pimia told the broadcaster.

“A uniform also lives in its time. When female police officers were introduced, the uniform code was modified. I believe that we should enable all Finns to apply to work for the police,” Pimia added.

The investigation is expected to examine other countries such as the UK and Sweden, which allow police to wear the hijab and look into what safety concerns might be raised if the officer were to get into a physical altercation with a suspect while wearing the garment.

In 2016, the Scottish police introduced a special official police hijab, claiming that it was being done to attract more Muslim women into policing.

Three years later, Ireland updated its Gardaí (police) uniform rules to allow the wearing of hijabs, claiming that a lack of ethnic diversity within the service was a “ticking time-bomb” that could lead to radicalisation among immigrants.

Secretary Pimia’s statements come just days after a Muslim woman challenged the Finnish army’s ban on the hijab, arguing that more women from migrant backgrounds would want to join the armed forces if they were allowed to wear the Islamic headscarf.

Major Marko Maaluoto of the Finnish Defence Forces defended the ban on the hijab and other religious garments, saying: “This is general guidance. Only military headgear is approved. They are part of the military equipment configuration. We have general guidance on what kind of headgear can or cannot be worn.”

Two Panama Ex-Presidents Accused in the Odebrecht Corruption Scandal

Panama’s anti-corruption prosecutor said on Wednesday she wants to see 50 people, including two former presidents, stand trial for their role in a bribing scheme involving the Brazilian conglomerate Odebrecht.

Lead Prosecutor Tania Sterling told local media that former Panamanian presidents Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014) and Juan Carlos Varela (2014-2019) were among the 50 people listed in a 800-pages-long report her office submitted to the court.

In it, prosecutors have accused 14 former public servants of corruption and money laundering, while the other suspects, including a company, are believed to have facilitated illicit money transactions, Sterling said.

She estimated it will take between five and seven months for a court to hold the preliminary hearing.

“It is a robust investigation with enough elements to achieve the conviction of the people whom the Prosecution Office has listed,” Sterling said.

“(Odebrecht) used national and foreign banks and transferred illicit money to public servants and their families for an amount greater than US$100 million,” Panama’s Prosecution Office said last April in a statement.

The suspects reportedly used Panamanian and foreign corporations as well as multiple intermediaries, fraudulent contracts and political campaigns to launder the illicit funds.

Martinelli and Varela have not commented on the recent events but have previously denied accepting bribes from Odebrecht.

A year ago, Guatemalan authorities arrested Martinelli’s sons, Ricardo Alberto Martinelli and Luis Enrique Martinelli, following a request from the United States. American authorities charged both brothers in July for allegedly accepting bribes from Odebrecht.

The scheme involved the payment of $700 million to government officials, public servants and others in Panama and abroad in exchange for lucrative contracts.

U.S. prosecutors said the Martinelli brothers served as intermediaries in the payment of $28 million in bribes made by Odebrecht to one of their close relatives, who held a high-ranked position in the Panamanian government at the time.

Guatemala authorized the extradition of Luis Enrique Martinelli on Tuesday while his brother’s case is still pending.

Mexico Arrests Leader of Gang that Stole a Billion by Manipulating ATMs

Acting on an extradition request made by Romania, Mexican authorities arrested on Thursday Florian Tudor, the alleged leader of an organized criminal group that stole more than a billion dollars by compromising ATMs in tourist destinations across Mexico.

Mexico’s General Prosecutor announced the arrest, saying that the Romanian citizen was suspected of organized crime, extortion and attempted aggravated homicide. Romania asked for his prompt arrest because prosecutors in Bucharest were worried he could flee the Latin American country and they would not be able to track him down.

A Bucharest court sentenced in March six members of Tudor’s so-called Riviera Maya Gang to prison terms of between three to 10 years for attempted murder, blackmail and the creation of a criminal group dedicated to the large-scale cloning of bank cards in Mexico.

OCCRP, Quinto Element Lab, Mexicanos Contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad (MCCI) and Rise Project published last year an investigation that revealed the Riviera Maya gang's operations which accounted for 12% of the world’s illegal skimming market.

Santiago Nieto, the head of Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), who ran the investigation known as “Operation Caribbean” that was initiated by the Mexican and U.S. governments welcomed the arrest on Twitter, as did Alberto Capella, the former head of the Ministry of Public Security in Quintana Roo.

“I feel very proud to be Mexican and today I also feel very proud that several of its institutions, without philias, phobias nor petty interests, carried out the law regardless of the risks and threats,” said Capella.

The Riviera Maya gang members are believed to have been systematically stealing bank card numbers to copy them onto blank plastic cards. They would later use those cards to withdraw money at ATM machines in other parts of the world.

Mexican prosecutors have also been after Tudor since March 2019, when he was found to be illegally possessing weapons only armed forces are allowed to have. Mexican police have opened at least five investigations against him for financial operations of illicit origin, crimes against biodiversity and for organized crime, according to freedom of information requests.

The group members are believed to have been using devices called “skimmers,” which they would insert into the ATM machines to read the magnetic stripe of bank cards. A small camera would also record the moment the person enters the PIN code. Armed with this data, they could clone the victim's card and use it for purchases or to withdraw cash.

By 2017, Tudor’s company Top Life Servicios operated more than 100 ATMs under the bank brand Multiva throughout the Riviera Maya and in other tourist sites in Mexico.

"I am not a criminal and never will be," Tudor said in an email exchange with OCCRP in June last year. "I have never killed anyone and I have never ordered anyone killed."

Two men, 19 and 20, are arrested for shooting dead US Army colonel, 55, and his veteran wife, 63, 'at point blank range' outside their Virginia home

Cops arrested two men on Thursday for allegedly shooting a U.S. Army colonel and his veteran wife to death outside their Virginia home.

Ronnie Marshall, 20, and D'Angelo Strand, 19, have each been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, Fairfax County Police Department officials said.

Edward McDaniel Jr., 55, and his wife Brenda McDaniel, 63, were gunned down outside of their home on the 8000 block of Flint Street in Springfield on Wednesday, officials said.

'We're here because two pillars of our community, of our country, really, we're gunned down viciously in their own front yard,' Kevin Davis, the department's chief of police, said.

The arrests come after cops found a 2018 light-colored Nissan Altima with Maryland plate number 1EF1479 that they had been searching for, after it was believed to have been tied to the crime.

Earlier on Thursday, police took an unnamed third person of interest into custody after a local resident reported seeing the car.

'Thanks to the community, we got our offenders,' said Ed O'Carroll, commander of the department's major crimes bureau.

Army officials said Edward McDaniel Jr. has been a doctor of internal medicine with the military since June 1995 and was director of executive medicine at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital, WRC-TV reported.

He held the rank of colonel and had received a number of awards and decorations through his distinguished career, including: Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Medic Badge among other awards and ribbons.

Yesterday evening, a divided panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit granted a temporary injunction barring the Small Business Administration from prioritizing applications for COVID-19 relief funding based upon the race or sex of the business owner applying for the relief. Judge Amul Thapar wrote for the court, joined by Senior Judge Alan Norris. Judge Bernice Donald dissented.

Judge Thapar’s opinion in Vitolo v. Guzman begins with a simple and straightforward description of the case and holding: “This case is about whether the government can allocate limited coronavirus relief funds based on the race and sex of the applicants. We hold that it cannot.”

“It has been twenty-five years since the Supreme Court struck down the race-conscious policies in Adarand. And it has been nearly twenty years since the Supreme Court struck down the racial preferences in Gratz. As today’s case shows once again, the ‘way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.’”

Cancer-causing chemical found in 78 sunscreen products

The independent lab that made the finding is calling on the FDA to recall these sunscreen products.

An independent testing lab has detected the chemical benzene, a known human carcinogen, in 78 sunscreen products and is now calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to recall the products.

The lab, Valisure, checks medications and health care products for quality. Recently, the company tested nearly 300 sunscreen products and found that 27% contained benzene, according to a statement from the company. Fourteen of the products (5%) contained benzene at levels higher than 2 parts per million (ppm), which is the FDA's recommended limit for benzene in medically valuable drugs that can't be made without it.

"The presence of this known human carcinogen in products widely recommended for the prevention of skin cancer and that are regularly used by adults and children is very troubling," David Light, founder and CEO of Valisure, said in the statement.

Benzene is a colorless or light yellow liquid that forms naturally but is also produced by human activities, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For example, automobile emissions and the burning of coal and oil can release benzene into the air; the chemical is also used in the manufacturing of some plastics, rubbers, dyes, detergents, drugs and pesticides, according to the CDC.

Exposure to high levels of benzene causes cancer in humans, particularly blood cancer, including leukemia. The U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration limits workplace exposure to benzene in the air to 1 ppm on an average day and a maximum of 5 ppm over a 15-minute period, according to the American Cancer Society. The Environmental Protection Agency limits benzene in drinking water to 0.005 ppm, or 5 parts per billion (ppb), which is also the limit for bottled water.

The FDA says that benzene should not be used in the manufacturing of drug products except in special circumstances, mainly if their use is unavoidable and the drug product makes a significant therapeutic advance. In these cases, benzene levels should be limited to 2 ppm "unless otherwise justified," the FDA says. In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when there was a shortage of hand sanitizer, the FDA temporarily allowed hand sanitizers to contain up to 2 ppm of benzene. But in March 2021, Valisure announced they had detected benzene above this level in nearly two dozen hand sanitizer products, at least one of which was later recalled.

In light of its new findings of benzene in sunscreens, Valisure has petitioned the FDA to recall the 78 products and to conduct its own investigation into the manufacturing of these products. A full list of the sunscreen products with benzene can be found in the petition. Nearly all of the 14 sunscreen products with benzene levels above 2 ppm were sprays; but the chemical also showed up in lotions and sunburn-relief gels.

Although the FDA says benzene should not be used in the manufacturing of drugs, the agency does not define a specific limit for drugs like sunscreen (The FDA regulates sunscreen as an over-the-counter drug.). The 2 ppm limit applies only to the "special circumstances" outlined by the agency. So Valisure is also calling on the FDA to set a limit for benzene levels in sunscreen and other drug products in standard situations, and to set a limit for exposure in a single day.

Since benzene wasn't detected in most of the sunscreens Valisure tested, the company says that the use of benzene in sunscreens is not "unavoidable," and any detectable amount of the chemical shouldn't be allowed.

"It is critical that regulatory agencies address benzene contamination in sunscreens … so that all individuals feel safe using sunscreen products," Dr. Christopher Bunick, an associate professor of dermatology at Yale University, said in the statement.

SOCHI, May 28. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday he had taken documents together with him for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin about what was really happening in Belarus.

"I have taken some documents with me and I will show them to you so that you can understand what these people are," Lukashenko said before the start of the summit meeting in Sochi.

Lukashenko recalled that last year Western countries, which had closed off all their air service over the pandemic, requested Belavia, the Belarusian state-run airline, to help them with the repatriation of their citizens as only Minsk Airport was operational at the time.

"Our company repatriated thousands and thousands of people: Swedes, Germans, Poles, Lithuanians and Americans. They were so grateful to us back at the end of last year and at the beginning of this year for repatriated and rescued people," the Belarusian leader insisted.

"And now this incident with the airliner, which Belavia has no relation to. There were no Belavia planes involved, it was a foreign airliner. The military is being reproached that we landed it. But what does Belavia have to do with that? They have gone to the extreme and had it not been you at that time… What were the Belavia personnel, who repatriated thousands of these nationals amidst the Covid pandemic, punished for? I will show you some documents and you will understand what happened there and is happening," Lukashenko said, addressing his Russian counterpart.

A passenger jet belonging to Ryanair, an Irish low-cost airline, performing a flight from Athens to Vilnius on May 23 made an emergency landing at Minsk International Airport after a bomb threat on board the plane had been reported. A MiG-31 fighter jet was dispatched to escort the airliner to Minsk airport.

A subsequent search after the aircraft had touched down in the Belarusian capital failed to find any explosives. The Belarusian Investigative Committee opened a criminal probe into a false bomb scare.

An elementary school physical education teacher in Virginia was placed on leave after an explosive speech in which he told his school board he wouldn't "affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa," Fox News has learned.

During a Loudoun County school board meeting Tuesday, teacher Byron "Tanner" Cross voiced his opposition to policies surrounding gender.

"My name is Tanner Cross and I am speaking out of love for those who are suffering from gender dysphoria," Cross told the board. He went on to discuss a "60 Minutes" special about the issue.

"'60 Minutes' this past Sunday interviewed over 30 young people who transitioned but they felt led astray because of lack of pushback or how easy it was to make physical changes to their bodies… They are now detransitioning," he said.

"It's not my intention to hurt anyone, but there are certain truths that we must face when ready. We condemn school policies [that] would damage children, defile the holy image of God.

"I love all of my students but I will never lie to them regardless of the consequences. I'm a teacher but I serve God first and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa because it's against my religion. It's lying to a child, it's abuse to a child, and it's sinning against our God."

Fox News obtained an email via the group Parents Against Critical Theory. Sent Thursday, it announced Cross' leave from Leesburg Elementary.

Principal Shawn Lacey told recipients: "I'm contacting you to let you know that one of our physical education teachers, Tanner Cross, is on leave beginning this morning. In his absence, his duties will be covered by substitute staff already working in our building."

How America Does Regime-Change Propaganda

In the case of Saddam Hussein, it was by lying about “WMD” and about Saddam’s being behind Al Qaeda.

In the case of Muammar Qaddafi, it was by lying about Qaddafi’s being hated (instead of supported) by most Libyans.

In the case of Bashar al-Assad, it was by lying about Assad’s being hated (instead of supported) by most Syrians.

In the case of Xi Jinping, it is by lying about Xi’s being a dictator.

In the case of Vladimir Putin, it is by lying about Putin’s being a dictator.

However, all such allegations, except the case against Saddam, were irrelevant under international law, and provided no legal basis for an invasion or sanctions by any foreign country. (Furthermore, all of those allegations were lies.) Regarding Iraq, the U.S. regime lied to allege the presence of a nuclear-bomb program there, and this allegation pertained to America’s own national security; so, that allegation concerning Iraq would have been a possible justification to invade, if it hadn’t been a lie. (Truthfulness is always a requirement under international law.) But in the other instances, no danger to America’s national security was even being alleged. The U.S. regime alleged that the foreign leaders it wanted to overthrow were ‘violating the human rights of the people’ there, but the U.S. Government routinely violates the human rights of its own population and imprisons a higher percentage of them than any other country — including all of the ones it criticizes — does; so, any such allegation by the U.S. regime is perhaps even worse than a pot calling the kettle black, because this particular “pot” is blacker than any of the others. What foreign countries say about ‘human rights’ in any other country provides no grounds in international law for the accusing country to invade that country. If a given national leader should be replaced, that regime-change shouldn’t be foreign-imposed (for example, America and its allies — the champions of foreign regime-change operations — should have nothing to do with it), but instead it should be done only by patriots within that given nation — and not assisted (much less instigated) by the CIA, MI6, or etc., since that would make it be imperialism. A basic principle of international law is that law within any nation doesn’t fall within the purview of international law: it’s simply not an international matter. International law is supposed to concern only international relations — no internal (domestic) matters (unless the U.N. General Assembly and Security Council specify there to be an exception — such as if they rule that a genocide is being perpetrated within a given nation). Other countries (such as the rulers of America) might not like the ruler of a given nation, but this doesn’t give those foreigners any right to perpetrate regime-change there, such as the U.S. and its allies routinely do (and have done ever since 1948).

Consequently: the way that America and its allies do sanctions, coups, invasions, and other regime-change operations, is by deceiving their own publics — it is always being done by means of propaganda, lying to their own people. To this extent, any imperialistic nation is actually a regime, not a democracy, because imperialism is always, and even intrinsically, based upon lies, which the given nation’s rulers use in order to fool their own citizenry, so that those ‘citizens’ are actually those rulers’ “subjects,” not authentically citizens, of that actual dictatorship. (And then they lie by referring to their subjects as ‘citizens’, instead of as “subjects,” so as to be able to continue fooling them throughout the future, to continue the myth of their own nation’s being a ‘democracy’.)

The foreign-imposed regime-change operations are always based upon lying. It’s the basic tool of any dictatorship. And the public never learns that they’ve been suckered by their rulers.
