Prosecutors Seek To Seize $15 Million Fly Fishing Lodge In "Biggest U.S. Tax Evasion Case Ever"
Billionaire Robert Brockman was indicted last year on the "biggest U.S. tax-evasion case ever against an individual". Now, prosecutors are looking to seize his assets, including a $15 million fishing lodge in Colorado and $77.9 million in a Swiss bank account, according to Bloomberg.
The 80 year old Brockman is being accused of failing to report $2 billion in income and using a foreign company to buy secondary debt in his own software firm at a deep discount. The government says that assets tied to the debt fraud can be forfeited, which includes the fishing lodge on the Frying Pan River. It's the government's first attempt at taking his property since he was indicted last October.
The 143 acres were used by Brockman as he "spent parts of his summers fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout". He built the property to avoid the 30 minute drive from Aspen to the Frying Pan River.
"If you’re a fisherman, it’s just a wonderful place to live,” John Gierach, the author of “Sex, Death, and Fly-Fishing” told Bloomberg, calling the area “one of Colorado’s best trout streams."
Now, the burden is on the government to show the land was "the product of tainted funds", Bloomberg reports. Internal Revenue Service special agent Ted Lair said in a court filing that Brockman laundered illicit proceeds through funds managed by Vista Equity Partners.
That firm is run by Robert Smith, who already agreed to a deal with prosecutors to help deliver Brockman in exchange for avoiding prosecution for his own tax evasion crimes. He's also paying $139 million in back taxes. Lair noted that Smith was "unaware" of the debt fraud being perpetrated by Brockman.
Swiss prosecutors have frozen more than $1 billion held in bank accounts belonging to Brockman.
Brockman has pleaded not guilty and denies wrong doing. His lawyers have claimed he has dementia and can't aid in his defense. Prosecutors, meanwhile, think he "may be faking the illness", bringing to the court's attention that Brockman worked at his software company up to and through the date of his indictment.
A judge is set to rule on the asset seizure, review expert testimony from medical experts and determine where and when Brockman should stand trial, later this year.

Hunter Biden held two meetings with ex-NY Gov. David Paterson
Hunter Biden’s tentacles stretched to the Empire State, where he twice met with then-Gov. Paterson, according to emails from Biden’s abandoned laptop.
Paterson attended an intimate “policy dinner” in Manhattan on July 14, 2010, organized by Hunter and his business partners in Rosemont Seneca.
Attendees marked as “confirmed” in email correspondence included former Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord, who later pleaded guilty to two counts of felony extortion; Bert Lesniewski, director of finance and administration for New York State United Teachers; and hedge fund managers Daniel S. Loeb and Nick Rohatyn.
“Paterson was sitting right next to me,” recalled one guest, who didn’t leave impressed. “Basically it was just Dan Loeb talking about politics and debating everybody at the table.”
Shortly after leaving government in 2010, Paterson attended a second meeting with Hunter Biden, Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners executive Neil Callahan, and Alexandra Stanton, one of Paterson’s former aides, in Midtown, according to messages found on the laptop.
While Paterson was in office, Hunter and friends were keenly interested in leveraging their connections to him for their client, Spanish energy company Iberdrola.
“FYI, I talked to Alex [Stanton] today re: Gov Paterson and Iberdrola. Told her we shouldn’t do anymore for Iberdrola until we all talk,” wrote Rosemont Seneca executive Eric Schwerin in a May 6, 2010, email. “It is clear that Iberdrola is going to continue to try and use us for free help with the Governor and NYS.”

Bennett widely expected to announce formation of government with Lapid Sunday
Reports differ on whether decision final, and whether Shaked fully supports it; Lapid said planning to tell president Monday he has a coalition; PM to pressure Yamina MKs to oppose
The Israeli political system was on edge Saturday night amid swirling reports that the Yamina party was preparing to announce its backing for the formation of a government that will see Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu removed from power.
According to Channel 12 news, Yamina No. 2 Ayelet Shaked, who in recent days had been seen as a key holdout on joining the so-called “change bloc,” has agreed with party leader Naftali Bennett to join a power-sharing government led by Bennett and Yesh Atid chief Yair Lapid, who will rotate the premiership between them.
The government would bring together parties from the right (Yamina, Yisrael Beytenu, New Hope), center (Yesh Atid, Blue and White) and left (Labor, Meretz), with support from the Islamist Arab Ra’am party (apparently from outside the coalition), in a unity government that would seek to extract Israel from two years of political chaos, spearhead the country’s recovery from coronavirus and heal societal rifts in a deeply divided nation.
Media reports differed on whether Bennett has already made a final decision, or is on the verge of doing so.

President Trump joined Dick Morris on Newsmax TV on Saturday night where he again tore into FOX News and the growing anti-Trump bias at the network.
This was not the first time Trump hit FOX News and its anti-Trump hosts like Chris Wallace.
Dick Morris: Now, an awful lot of FOX News viewers have stopped watching FOX and are now tuning into Newsmax. Why is that? Why do you think they left FOX?
President Trump: Well, FOX has been a lot different. And I think they’re coming back a bit. But FOX has certainly been a lot different than it’s been in 2016. One of the biggest differences in the election, even though I won 75 million votes, one of the biggest differences, which is far more than I won the first time when you think about it. If you look at how FOX, how they did versus how they did in 2016, it was day and night. A big difference and people are very angry about it.
Dick Morris: Do you think it’s because they have people like Mike (Chris) Wallace as their senior correspondent and Paul Ryan on their board?
President Trump: No, he’d like to be Mike Wallace, that’s his father, that’s Chris Wallace… Yeah, he was disastrous. He was your basic disaster. He’s just a very negative guy. And the people don’t want to hear that. That’s why they tune out.

During an infamous, watershed moment on Election Night, Fox News called the state of Arizona for Joe Biden, projecting numbers from Maricopa County that had yet to have been tabulated. By comparison, Newsmax’s coverage that night warned it was too early and the state was still too close to call.
Trump campaign staffers have often noted in the rehashing of election coverage that moment helped turn what seemed to be a positive night for Trump’s reelection chances into a path of victory for Biden. Votes were still to be cast, counted, and – to the dismay of free and fair election advocates – mail-in ballots in some key battleground states like Pennsylvania were still permitted to be received.
Maricopa County, Arizona, is currently under a “forensic” audit of its 2020 election results, which Trump hailed earlier this week on Newsmax’s “Cortes & Pellegrino” as expected to bear fruit of evidence of voter fraud.
