Strictly for show and the radicalization of perhaps a handful of idiots on either side of the issue. Sad as it is, this group can't organize effectively to solve small, local issues. There's absolutely no way they're convincing any but the truly delusional that a disorganized, infighting, under-resourced 13% of the population with maybe 5% of the guns and money is going to do anything but get annihilated by the other side of the equation if provoked to it.
This is theatrical staging for political extortion later on. Both sides know the absolute worst thing that could happen is if a shot is fired in anger going either way.

Political showboating for media/masses. You don't have be an Anon to know that everyone spies on everyone else all the time; and any first-tier country that conducted it's statecraft in ignorance would be viewed as such…ignorant.
It doesn't mean they're successful, but they're all trying and most are very good. That, and each of them are probably in possession TS documents outlining the various sharing agreements between their collections and ours.
