Police Covering Rotherham Secure Charges in Only 1-in-34 Child Sexual Exploitation Cases

The British police force which oversaw the Rotherham “grooming gangs” child rape scandal is securing charges for just one in 34 crimes flagged as having links to Child Sexual Exploitation, it has been revealed.

All told, South Yorkshire Police secured just 16 charges out of some 540 crimes officers flagged as Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) related, according to data secured by The Times through the Freedom of Information Act.

West Midlands Police, which has been slated for a wide variety of so-called “grooming” gang failures over the years, disclosed an only marginally less embarrassing figure of one in 28 offences linked to Child Sexual Exploitation resulting in a charge.

Across all 34 police forces which responded to the Freedom of Information requests from The Times, the average number of crimes flagged as having CSE links which “resulted in a charge or summons” was a mere one in 14.

“The low charge rate staggers me. My concern is that known perpetrators are slipping through the net. We need absolutely zero tolerance for this crime,” commented Sarah Champion, a Member of Parliament for the left-wing Labour party whose frontbench career as a shadow government minister was swiftly ended after she wrote an article saying that “Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls.”

“We will actively continue to investigate all CSE reports and take any action possible to prosecute and disrupt the perpetrators who commit these despicable acts,” claimed South Yorkshire Police in a statement quoted by The Times, in defiance of what appears to be statistical evidence to the contrary.

Less than a week ago, The Times reported on internal reports which found there is “little evidence of the exploiters being investigated” by West Yorkshire Police, with South Yorkshire Police being one of a number of forces refusing to disclose the findings of internal reports on their handling of child sexual abuse cases.

The newspaper said that what information it did manage to uncover came at the end of a nine-month Freedom of Information battle in which police tried to redact potentially embarrassing information.

‘Enough is Enough’: Protest Against Illegal Migration Held in Dover as Over 400 More Boat Migrants Land

Over 400 illegal boat migrants landed in the space of 24 hours as a protest was held in Dover against the growing migration crisis in the English Channel.

On Saturday, some 144 migrants were recorded landing on British soil, following 336 landing on Friday, according to BBC reporter Simon Jones.

While migrants were being escorted by the British Border force through the Port of Dover, where they were brought ashore to be processed by immigration officials, police made four arrests of anti-immigration activists during a protest in the English coastal town.

Protesters staged a sit-in on Snargate Street, blocking off the road for at least an hour, waving flags, carrying banners reading “Stop the Invasion”, and chanting “enough is enough”.

One protester, dubbed Brexit Brian, told local news outlet Kent Online that he is not “far-right” but came to the protest to stand up for the principle of stopping illegal migration into Britain.

“So many of us are upset about with the government and their policies, especially as most of us in this country have been on lockdown and it seems that the illegal immigrants have not had the same lockdown conditions that we have had,” he said.

Responding to whether he is “far-right” or a supporter of the National Front, Brian said: “That’s not the case at all. I’m simply a patriot — I know it’s an anomaly, people might think ‘what’s a black guy doing [here]’ — but actually it has nothing to do with being black or white, it’s to do with the principles, the principles of illegal immigration, it’s got to stop.”

The protest was criticised by the local Conservative MP, Natalie Elphicke, who said: “It’s time to stop the small boats crossings but today’s protestors are not welcome in Dover.

“There’s no excuse for their disruption to trade and to our town.

“Time and again we see that the protesters’ day out causes direct damage to someone else’s livelihood, tourism, business and trade. That’s not right or fair.

“Kent Police have had a challenging year – from the French closing the border to leaving the EU to coronavirus lockdowns and PCSO Julia James’ tragic death.

“They deserved a proper bank holiday break this weekend – not been sworn at by loud-mouthed protestors from London or Essex or wherever.”

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police officers attended the scene to ensure people were able to take part in a peaceful protest and to make sure the impact on the community and local businesses was kept to a minimum.

“Two people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences and two people were arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway. All four remain in custody.”

Ohio Sheriff Ends Relationship With DHS to Prevent Release of Illegal Immigrants Into Community

A sheriff in Butler County, Ohio, on May 26 announced that his office is ending its relationship with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to prevent the Biden administration from releasing illegal immigrants into the community.

In a news release on May 26, Sheriff Richard K. Jones’ office said that it has notified the agency that it will no longer accept detainees at the Butler County Jail, effective immediately. Jones is also terminating a contract with ICE that has since 2003 allowed it to house illegal immigrants while they are awaiting immigration hearings, the release states.

“I stand by Corrections Facility and my Staff!” Jones said on Twitter.

He said he believes Butler County Jail staff operate an “efficient correctional facility” and that federal officials “continue to add unreasonable and cost prohibitive mandates to hold these illegal immigrants.”

“With the crisis at the border getting worse, it concerns me that the feds will ship detainees to my facility, then release them to the streets of my community under some technicality. It’s better to just end this arrangement now, than to let that happen,” Jones said in a written statement.

He added: “Unlike this current administration, I’m still a firm believer that our government should strictly enforce the immigration laws and I will continue to promote that stance at every opportunity.”

According to the sheriff, there are currently some 50 ICE detainees in the county jail, and the agency has 60 days to remove them, FOX 19 reported.

“They gotta house them somewhere, but they’re not going to house them here. I’m not going to drink the Kool-Aid,” Sheriff Jones said.

ICE didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment by The Epoch Times.

The decision comes as arrests and detentions at the U.S.–Mexico border hit record levels last month, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data published on May 11.

Immigration arrests and detentions at the southern border last month rose by 3 percent from March, to 178,622—the highest one-month total in 20 years, CBP data show.

Last month’s figures, however, marked the first month since President Joe Biden took office that the CBP didn’t record a major month-on-month jump in the number of border arrests and detentions, despite reaching record levels.

Johnson & Johnson Asks High Court To Void $2 Billion Talc Verdict

WASHINGTON—Johnson & Johnson is asking for Supreme Court review of a $2 billion verdict in favor of women who claim they developed ovarian cancer from using the company’s talc products.

The case features an array of high-profile attorneys, some in unusual alliances, including former independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who is representing the women who sued Johnson & Johnson. The nation’s largest business groups are backing the company, and a justice’s father also makes an appearance because of his long association with the trade group for cosmetics and personal care products.

The court could say as soon as Tuesday whether it will get involved.

At the root, Johnson & Johnson argues that the company didn’t get a fair shake in a trial in state court in Missouri that resulted in an initial $4.7 billion verdict in favor of 22 women who used talc products and developed ovarian cancer.

A state appeals court cut more than half the money out of the verdict and eliminated two of the plaintiffs but otherwise upheld the outcome in a trial in which lawyers for both sides presented dueling expert testimony about whether the company’s talc products contain asbestos and whether asbestos-laced talc can cause ovarian cancer.

The jury found for the women on both points, after which Judge Rex M. Burlison wrote that evidence at the trial showed “particularly reprehensible conduct on the part of Defendants.”

The evidence, Burlison wrote, included that the company knew there was asbestos in products aimed at mothers and babies, knew of the potential harm and “misrepresented the safety of these products for decades.”

Nine of the women have died from ovarian cancer, lawyers for the plaintiffs said.

Cannabis Inhibits SARS-CoV-2 Replication in Human Lungs, Study Suggests

With the SARS-CoV-2 virus causing almost 3 million deaths worldwide, researchers have been scrambling to learn more about the deadly COVID-19 disease that has threatened global public health and world economies.

A new study, published on preprint server bioRxiv last week, suggests that a cannabis plant compound inhibited infection with SARS-CoV-2 in human lung cells.

According to the researchers at the University of Chicago in Illinois, cannabidiol (CBD), a chemical in the Cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana, and its metabolite 7-OH-CBD, blocked SARS-CoV-22 replication in lung epithelial cells. Epithelial cells are cells that come from body surfaces, such as the skin, blood vessels, urinary tract or organs.

The researchers also found that CBD appeared to inhibit viral gene expression and reverse many of the effects SARS-CoV-2 has on host gene transcription. CBD also appeared to bring about the expression of interferons, proteins released by cells, in response to the entry of viruses, that are supposed to inhibit virus replication. In addition, for those patients who had been taking CBD, the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection was up to an order of a magnitude lower than in patients who had not been taking CBD.

“This study highlights CBD, and its active metabolite, 7-OH-CBD, as potential preventative agents and therapeutic treatments for SARS-CoV-2 at early stages of infection,” lead author Marsha Rosner and her colleagues told News Medical.

This is not the first time that scientists have suggested that CBD may help prevent COVID-19.

According to Dr. Frank Lucido, a family practice physician who works with medical cannabis patients, CBD can potentially reduce cytokines, which are substances secreted by cells of the immune system as part of the body’s natural immune response.

“CBD looks promising in reducing the cytokine storm, which seems to be the most damaging aspect of COVID-19 infection,” Lucido told the San Francisco Chronicle in September 2020.

In a peer-reviewed article published in the journal Brain, Behavior and Immunity, researchers from the University of Nebraska and the Texas Biomedical Research Institute also said CBD decreased SARS-CoV-2 induced lung inflammation, and also prohibited cytokine production by immune cell.

Amazon, eBay and other online stores advertise teeth whiteners with toxic levels of hydrogen peroxide

Online stores Amazon, eBay, Wish and China’s AliExpress advertise teeth whitening products with unsafe levels of hydrogen peroxide, according to a British consumer group named Which?

The organization bought 36 teeth whiteners from the four retailers and checked the amount of hydrogen peroxide that each product contains. High concentrations of hydrogen peroxide could burn gums and cause permanent damage to the teeth.

The consumer group found that 21 products are made of more than 0.1 percent hydrogen peroxide, which is the safety limit for over-the-counter products in the U.K. Six of these contain more than a hundred times the safety limit and exceed the six percent legal limit that dentists in the U.K. are allowed to use. Five of these were available on AliExpress, with the most toxic one – a teeth bleaching gel kit sold by a store called Oral Orthodontic Materials – containing 300 times the safety limit.

Both Amazon and eBay listed five products with dangerous amounts of hydrogen peroxide, while Wish advertised two. One of the teeth whiteners sold on Wish – the Crest 3D Whitestrips – contains more than a hundred times the safety limit.

Sue Davies, head of consumer protection policy at Which?, is concerned that many of the products listed on online marketplaces break the legal limit for hydrogen peroxide.

“It’s clear that self-regulation is not working, leaving people exposed to a flood of unsafe products online,” Davies said in a statement. “It is absolutely crucial that online marketplaces are given greater legal responsibility for the safety of products sold on their sites, so that shoppers are far better protected from dangerous and illegal items.”

The organization urged consumers to seek professional help if they were looking to whiten their teeth. Alternatively, consumers could buy teeth whitening kits from reputable high-street retailers, the organization added.

After being notified about the findings, some online retailers removed the products named by Which? from their platforms. An eBay spokesperson said that the company banned the five identified listings and took appropriate action against the sellers. The spokesperson added that the firm has filters that automatically block listings that were deemed unsafe or that violated shop policies.

COVID vaccine injury reports among 12- to 17-year-olds more than triple in 1 week, VAERS data show

The number of reported adverse events following COVID vaccines continues to climb, according to data released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The data comes directly from reports submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

VAERS is the primary government-funded system for reporting adverse vaccine reactions in the U.S. Reports submitted to VAERS require further investigation before a causal relationship can be confirmed.

Every Friday, VAERS makes public all vaccine injury reports received as of a specified date, usually about a week prior to the release date. Today’s data show that between Dec. 14, 2020 and May 21, a total of 227,521 total adverse events were reported to VAERS, including 4,406 deaths — an increase of 205 over the previous week — and 21,537 serious injuries, up 3,009 since last week.

Russian LGBT Network in court as Saint Petersburg prosecutors demand its Facebook page be blocked for 'negative impact' on kids

Prosecutors in Russia have demanded that Facebook block the page of the Russian LGBT Network, with the authorities alleging that it harms the development and health of minors. The profile is followed by over 5,000 people.

The initial complaint was filed by MP Igor Sapko, the former mayor of Perm and a representative of the ruling United Russia party, who said that “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships is becoming mainstream on many Internet platforms.”

According to the prosecutors, the group creates “an attractive image of homosexuality, leading to the involvement of citizens, especially teenagers, in destructive lifestyles.”

“The materials on the page may have a negative impact on the development of children, provoking an unhealthy interest [in LGBT culture], instilling LGBT values, and involving minors in the LGBT community,” said the press service of a Saint Petersburg court, the city where the group is based.

According to Alexander Belik, a lawyer for the Russian LGBT Network, this is not the first time Saint Petersburg prosecutors have tried to block the organization’s pages.

“It started in 2019 when they targeted a group on [Russian social network] VKontakte,” Belik explained. “Two times they tried to do something with our website. Now they have switched to Facebook.”

The LGBT Network is run by the ‘Sphere’ charity fund, which is deemed by Russia’s Ministry of Justice to be a foreign agent. Founded in 2006, the group seeks to promote LGBT rights inside the country and aspires “to a society in which discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex variances does not exist.”

Yossi Cohen’s comments at a ceremony in central Israel on Sunday came after a period in which Iran’s nuclear program has been rocked by a series of mysterious setbacks, some of which are suspected to be attacks directed or carried out by Israel.

“Activity against the Iranian regime must be stepped up so that it understands that crossing the lines will cost it immense damage,” Cohen said at a ceremony at Bar-Ilan university, where he was given an honorary doctorate.

“To succeed we need leadership and courage, willingness to act. Today’s security operation is no less important than tomorrow’s war,” he said, describing security as “the foundation that enables us to live a meaningful life.”

Cohen has led Israel’s legendary clandestine service since 2016, but is set to be replaced in the coming days by David Barnea, who was named to the Mossad post last week.

Illinois defines homosexuals as ‘infertile,’ grants them insurance coverage for IVF

Lawmakers approved a bill that essentially redefines infertility.

Illinois lawmakers passed a bill redefining infertility to apply to homosexuals and single people and mandating insurance coverage of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other infertility services for LGBT-identifying individuals.

Illinois House Bill 3709 amends the state insurance code to classify infertility as “a person’s inability to reproduce either as a single individual or with a partner without medical intervention,” or “otherwise based on a physician’s opinion.” Infertility is currently defined in Illinois law as, among other things, “the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse.”

Services that must be covered by healnsurers for single or LGBT individuals under the bill include “in vitro fertilization, uterine embryo lavage, embryo transfer, artificial insemination, gamete intrafallopian tube transfer, zygote intrafallopian tube transfer, and low tubal ovum transfer.”

House Bill 3709 passed Illinois’s lower chamber 68-43 earlier this month, with the Republican House minority leader casting the sole GOP vote. The state senate also approved the bill on Thursday, though it has yet to be signed by the governor, a Democrat.

Democrat Rep. Margaret Croke of Chicago, who sponsored the legislation, had suggested that the biological definition of infertility in Illinois law was “discriminat(ing) against people who do want to become parents.” House Bill 3709, in fact, ignores the reality that people are not “infertile” simply for having an “inability to reproduce” alone or with someone of the same sex.

“No one has a ‘right’ to have covered any particular service that is not curative or preventive even when the general terms and conditions of that insurance policy cover superficially similar services that are medical treatments,” an article in The Federalist about HB 3709 noted last month. It added that “Illinois law already requires that Illinois insurance companies cover fertility services for couples who have attempted to conceive for a year(.)”

By mandating insurance coverage of in vitro fertilization for effectively anyone who wants it, Illinois is poised to accelerate an already highly unethical practice. IVF, which is recognized as illicit by the Catholic Church, frequently results in excess human embryos, many of which are subsequently destroyed. Millions of embryos may be abandoned or discarded at fertility clinics across the United States, according to Catholic News Agency.

Levin might postpone vote on new gov’t as Likud vows to ‘torpedo’ move

Lapid downplayed the tension among the parties in the coalition he is forming, saying there are always negotiations ahead of a deadline, and he was sure compromises would be reached.

Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin will likely use his legal right to postpone the special Knesset session for a vote of confidence and swearing in the new government for as long as possible, in an effort to prevent it from being formed, sources in the speaker's Likud Party said Monday.

By law, once Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid tells President Reuven Rivlin he can form a government on Tuesday or Wednesday, the special Knesset session can be held 24 hours after all the coalition agreements have been submitted.

Yamina would have liked the new government to be sworn in as soon as possible after that – ideally Thursday – to avoid unnecessary pressure over the weekend.

But Levin would consult with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and decide to use his right to delay the special Knesset session for seven days to maximize pressure on the parties forming the government, Likud sources said.

“Levin has the legal right to delay it by a week,” one of the sources said. “It’s not playing a game with the law. It is understandable that we want to torpedo the formation of the government.”

Asked when he would tell Rivlin he can form a government, Lapid said the deadline is Wednesday night, but he will try to finalize all the coalition deals sooner so he can tell Rivlin sooner. His associates denied a report that Lapid would go to Rivlin on Tuesday at noon.

There were no major stumbling blocks preventing the formation of a government, sources close to Lapid said. Progress was made with all parties that will be part of the coalition on Monday, including the Ra’am (United Arab List) Party of MK Mansour Abbas.

Nevertheless, efforts by Yamina leader Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid to build a governing coalition that would replace Netanyahu faced new challenges on Monday.

Fulton County Georgia Ballot Storage Facility Was Left Open for Hours – Attorney’s Own Hired Staff Discovered the Place Wide Open

Yesterday we reported on the facility in Fulton County, Georgia, where an alarm went off and it was found wide open. The building is where election ballots are kept in the County.

CD Media is all over this story. They reported that attorney Bob Cheeley is the plaintiff attorney in the Fulton County, GA election fraud case. The case is working its way through the court of Judge Amero in Henry County, having been moved out of Fulton for procedural reasons.

Judge Amero granted Cheeley’s, and attorneys for the other plaintiffs’, request to unseal and scan at 600 dpi the mail-in ballots from the 2020 general election. Allegations are that tens of thousands of counterfeit ballots are included in the 147,000 batch of mail-in ballots and envelopes. The video surveillance film from State Farm Arena the night of Nov 3rd seems to validate these allegations.

Cheeley recounted how he hired his own off-duty police security detail since the hearing on May 21 to guard the warehouse as he did not trust Fulton County to do the job as per court order.

Fulton County attorneys had pressured the judge during earlier communications, saying the off-duty police cars were ‘intimidating’ the Fulton County employees by parking in the facility lot. The judge asked the private security force to park on the street, as Fulton County was threatening to arrest the off-duty officers for trespassing.

Fulton County had been ordered by Judge Amero to guard the facility 24/7.

Two Fulton County Sheriff vehicles had been securing the building since May 25th when Judge Amero ordered the facility guarded. Yesterday at 4pm, the two Sheriff cars left the parking lot for two hours. Twenty minutes after the cars left the premises, the security alarm went off. The private security detail heard the alarm and investigated, finding the door unlocked and the building unattended.

According to the report, the building was left open until 8 pm when a county employee stopped by and locked the open door.

Cheeley delcared he is filing two motions of contempt against Fulton County this week for willfully disobeying the judge’s order to have the facility guarded at all times. Judge Amero had issued an earlier injunction (1 of 2) to have the ballots secured.

The Georgia 2020 Election was a mess and still is. The fact that no one in law enforcement with the ability is willing to make arrests is frightening.

Details Emerge of Fulton County Deputies Leaving Guard Duty 20 Minutes Before Alarms Sound in Building Containing Ballots for Audit

Details are starting to emerge about the suspicious alarms and opened doors at the building in Fulton County containing ballots awaiting audit. According to Newsmax corespondent Emerald Robinson Fulton County deputies left the parking lot 20 minutes before the building alarm sounded.

Additionally, the plaintiff attorney, Bob Cheely, handling the election integrity lawsuit, confirms the county security lapse is a direct violation of a court order requiring the ballots to be protected and secured at all times. Cheely will be filing two motions of contempt against the Fulton County officials for their refusal to uphold the court order requiring 24/7 security. Apparently there are also some CCTV cameras and the plaintiffs will be asking for the footage.

In an interview with CreativeDestructionMedia attorney Bob Cheely notes the security issue is a particular concern because Fulton County officials had previously requested that privately contracted security, off-duty police officers paid by the plaintiff, had to be moved out of the parking lot because employees of the county did not feel comfortable.

Oddly (perhaps not), the local police did not respond to the alarm going off. Instead it was the privately contracted security (off duty police) that responded to the alarm and discovered the open and unsecured door.

South Carolina Jury Find Black Man Who Confessed to Killing White Man Not Guilty of Murder, Spend Less Than 2 Hrs In Deliberations

Devon Dontray Dunham has been found not guilty of murder in the shooting death of unarmed former volunteer fire chief Ernest Martin Stevens, 77, despite his confession and 19 witnesses taking the stand against him.

The shooting took place near Stevens' home in Hardeeville, South Carolina on Aug 10, 2017.

According to Dunham's lawyer, an armed Dunham "wanted a ride" from Stevens and approached him while he was sitting in his Ford F-150 in a parking lot "but felt threatened" by him and saw him "reach for something" so he decided to unload all 8 rounds of his 9 mm handgun into Stevens' truck before running away.

Dunham struck Stevens with four bullets that hit his jaw, left arm, back and chest and fatally injured his heart and lung.

Stevens was unarmed.

Dunham initially lied to police and "denied knowing anything about the shooting" and "said he wasn't in the city at the time" before confessing and claiming he "wasn't trying to hurt him" when he unloaded into his car.

Dunham appears to have been acquitted because his lawyer made vague insinuations that racism may have been at play. Even though said insinuations were swiftly shut down by the judge, at least one member of the jury appears to have decided that was all they needed to hear and found him not guilty after less than 2 hours of deliberations.

"In South Carolina law, murder is 'the killing of any person with malice aforethought, either express or implied,'" The Island Packet reported. "The prosecutors have to prove the charge 'beyond a reasonable doubt' and all 12 jurors must agree on whether the verdict is guilty or not guilty."

Although Devon Dunham confessed to fatally shooting former Hardeeville volunteer fire chief Ernest Martin Stevens in a public parking lot in 2017, a Jasper County jury found him not guilty of murder Thursday.

Dunham breathed an audible sigh of relief through his face mask after hearing the verdict and softly fist-bumped his attorney.

The jury deliberated less than two hours.

Stevens, 77, was shot to death just before 9 a.m. Aug. 10, 2017, while sitting in the driver's seat of his Ford F-150 truck in the Argent Square parking lot near his home off Ulman Street in Hardeeville.

Dunham, 28 and living at Hardeeville at the time, was arrested related to the killing a day later in Savannah. His trial started Tuesday in Ridgeland on charges of murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

‘Location Off Should Mean Location Off’: Google Hit With Lawsuit Over Data Collection ‘Schemes’

In the latest update of a lawsuit against Google, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich alleged that the tech giant has continued to collect location data even after users turn off tracking on their smartphones and other devices, citing concerns from Google employees about the company’s data-collection practices.

According to documents that were submitted in court by Brnovich’s office last week, emails that were sent among Google engineers voiced concerns about the company’s location data collection efforts after an Associated Press report was released in 2018. The engineers suggested that they believed the AP article was correct.

“So there is no way to give a third party app your location and not Google? This doesn’t sound like something we would want on the front page of the [New York Times],” one employee allegedly stated in a newly unredacted section (pdf). “I agree with the article. Location off should mean location off, not except for this case or that case,” another Google employee stated.

One employee, according to the documents, stated that “real people” who use Google’s products “just think in terms of ‘location is on’, ‘location is off’ because that is exactly what you have on the front screen of your phone.”

Brnovich, a Republican, told Fox News that the documents suggest Google knew that it was collecting users’ information and would upset customers.

“What we’ve uncovered so far, I believe, shows that Google themselves understand and appreciate that what they are doing is something that is sneaky and something that would piss off consumers if they knew about it,” he said over the past weekend. “So the fact they are trying to hide what they are doing, they are being sneaky about it, and using every trick in the arsenal to stop this from seeing the light of day is all consumers need to know about Google’s intentions.”

The Epoch Times has contacted Google for comment.

“The Attorney General and our competitors driving this lawsuit have gone out of their way to mischaracterize our services,” Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda told news outlets after the new documents were released. “We have always built privacy features into our products and provided robust controls for location data. We look forward to setting the record straight.”

Nova Scotia top doc: Vaccines not 100% effective, “some people may die”

Nova Scotia's chief medical officer Dr. Robert Strang admitted today that COVID-19 vaccines are “not 100 per cent effective”, and that even after receiving two doses, “some people may die.”

The comments were made today during a joint press conference with Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin. “We, at this point, aren't requiring vaccinations” to enter the province, the premier told CTV reporter Natasha Pace.

Dr. Strang followed up with Pace, adding that “we fully expect the vaccine is not 100 per cent effective, even two doses”:

“So we fully expect that some people, even with two doses are going to get sick, and some people may die.

“That doesn't mean the vaccine's not working. The vaccine works on a population level as well.”

China Orders First Lockdown Since January As Indian Mutant Discovered In Guangzhou

India's second coronavirus wave finally crested during the month of May as the 7-day average declined steadily over the course of the month, while deaths remained stubbornly high until the second half. But even more than the numbers, the spread of a mutated COVID strain first discovered in India, a strain tagged with the handle B.1.617, has raised alarm as it spread around the world.

And now China is reacting to evidence of a recent cluster of cases caused by the Indian variant to further tighten China's border between India and their mutual neighbors. After imposing a new border at the summit of Mt Everest ostensibly to keep climbers from Nepal, which has also seen a surge in cases attributed to spillover from India, from crossing over, a partial lockdown has been imposed in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, where the cluster of cases was discovered.

It has been months since China imposed the last partial lockdowns associated with COVID, which was put in place in January during an outbreak in and around the province of Hebei, which is near Beijing.

People leaving the city, which is also the provincial capital and has a population of more than 15MM, must test negative for the virus within 72 hours before their trip. Already, some 520 flights have been cancelled at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, one of the world's busiest air travel hubs, as of 1140 local time on Monday.

Earlier, authorities announced stay-at-home orders for residents of several streets in the city's Liwan District, where the first infected patient was discovered on May 21. Chen Bin, the deputy chief of the provincial health commission, confirmed to Xinhua that all locally transmitted cases found in Guangzhou since May 21 had been linked to the B.1.617 Indian variant.

China has largely managed to contain the spread of COVID-19 since the outbreak began in Wuhan around December 2019. While cases have (officially) slowed to a crawl, scrutiny of the virus's origins has intensified amid a growing body of evidence that the virus escaped from a lab in Wuhan, while geneticists are finding even more evidence that the vaccine was likely human-made, the result of "gain of function" research that Dr. Fauci and others have championed (Dr. Fauci even argued that the potential risks of a global pandemic are outweighed by the potential benefit to society) for years.

“Operation Yo-Yo” Yields Arrests and Drug Seizures Across Two States

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. – Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) New Jersey Division Susan A. Gibson and Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced the conclusion of “Operation Yo-Yo” a large scale narcotics investigation initiated by the DEA and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force.

On May 20, 2021, the Cape May County, Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force with the assistance of the Cape May County Regional SWAT team executed a total of four search warrants in Cape May County, which concluded a long-term narcotics investigation into the distribution of cocaine. During the course of this investigation, it was determined that Jorge “YoYo” Goicochea was the leader of this large scale drug distribution network centered in various jurisdictions within Cape May County and Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, along with ties to Puerto Rico.

As of this date, nine individuals were arrested and approximately four and a half kilograms of cocaine have been seized in Cape May County and Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. $28,000 in U.S. currency was also seized and one semi-automatic handgun. The suspected cocaine has an approximate street value in excess of $450,000.

The nine individuals arrested as a result of this investigation:

Jorge L. Rivera was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Vilma Ayala, 41, of Middle Township, New Jersey, was charged with Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) (3rd degree); Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS (2nd Degree); Conspiracy to Possess CDS (3rd degree); Conspiracy to Distribute CDS (2nd degree); Money Laundering (3rd degree), and Possession Drug Paraphernalia (4th degree). 3 arrested for smuggling over 250 Vietnamese migrants to Germany

In the early hours of 31 May, some 740 police officers carried out coordinated raids across Germany and Slovakia against the members of a criminal syndicate smuggling Vietnamese nationals into Europe, arresting 3 individuals.

The main bulk of today’s actions took place in Germany, with house searches carried out in the towns of Hamburg, Schönefeld, Recklinghausen, Minden, Bückeburg, Halle, Bitterfeld-Wolften and Leipzig. A number of searches were also executed in Bratislava in Slovakia.

The investigation uncovered that this organised crime group was responsible for facilitating into Germany the entry of over 250 irregular migrants of Vietnamese origin, charging each migrant between €13 000 to €21 000 for the journey.

The criminal network provided migrants back in Vietnam with valid Schengen visas issued on false grounds using invitations provided by various companies controlled by the network in Slovakia.

Once the migrants arrived in Europe, the network would arrange for their travel to Germany by means of private cars. There, the migrants were deprived of their personal belongings and kept in captivity against their will until they paid back their debts to the criminal network through unpaid work.

This sting was carried out in the framework of an Operational Taskforce set up at Europol in November 2020 between the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei), the Police Force of the Slovak Republic (Policajný zbor Slovenskej republiky) and Europol’s European Migrant Smuggling Centre (EMSC). This Operational Taskforce focuses specifically on the organised crime networks smuggling Vietnamese nationals into Europe.

DHS Mayorkas Drafts ‘Roadmap’ for Mass Migration

President Joe Biden’s border officials are planning to dramatically expand legal migration into Americans’ workplaces, neighborhoods, and society, according to a May 31 New York Times article.

“We want to take a broad approach toward opening up the legal avenues that have always been available but that [President Donald Trump’s officials] tried to put roadblocks upon,” one senior Biden appointee told the New York Times.

The appointee, Felicia Escobar Carrillo, works for Alejandro Mayorkas, the pro-migration chief of the Department of Homeland Security. “There are significant changes that need to be made to really open up all avenues of legal immigration,” she said.

But the Mayorkas plan is a direct challenge to the “tight labor market” plan endorsed by President Joe Biden in a May 28 speech.

Biden said:

Rising wages aren’t a bug; they’re a feature. We want to get — we want to get something economists call “full employment.” Instead of workers competing with each other for jobs that are scarce, we want employees to compete with each other to attract workers. We want the — the companies to compete to attract workers.

The Mayorkas plan may be curbed by Biden’s intervention. But it can also be curbed if GOP legislators deny funds and if pro-American groups file lawsuits to block abuses of migration-law loopholes.

Americans already see the wage benefits of a tight labor market because of policies set by President Donald Trump in 2020.

The New York Times reported May 30 that federal agencies have “been issuing far fewer immigrant work visas during the pandemic thanks to travel and other restrictions, so employees from abroad who usually fill temporary help, agricultural and seasonal positions are missing from the labor market.” The Times added:

Teens are earning more than just fatter paychecks as employers try to lure applicants. Workers at Kennywood are receiving season park passes for themselves and three family members — a bonus worth around $300. Applebee’s offered an “Apps for Apps” deal in which applicants who were interviewed received a free appetizer voucher. Restaurants and gas stations across the country are offering signing bonuses.

In contrast, the Mayorkas plan would extract foreign migrants from other countries and uses them to flood the labor market, depress salaries and spike real estate prices.

Under Mayorkas’ plan, workers would compete for company jobs — flipping Biden’s plan to have companies compete for workers.
