When Conradson arrived at the hotel, every entrance was barricaded, and he had to park down the street. He walked up to the hotel and greeted some officers.

LES Officer: You actually need to leave the property it’s actually a closed hotel.

GOP Rep. Nancy Mace’s Home Vandalized With ‘No Gods, No Masters’ Antifa Messaging on Memorial Day

The home of GOP Rep. Nancy Mace was vandalized with Antifa symbols and messaging on Memorial Day.

Her South Carolina home was reportedly targeted by the vandals in the early morning hours.

Mace posted a video of the damage on YouTube.

Additional images of the vandalism shared by the Republican congresswoman on Twitter show Antifa slogans such as “no gods, no masters” and “all politicians are bastards” sloppily scrawled with black spray paint.

“In the early morning hours of Memorial Day, my home, where I’m raising my two children, was vandalized with Antifa symbols and profanity,” Mace wrote in a tweet with photos of the damage. “Although my kids and I are thankfully fine, these criminal acts are unacceptable no matter your politics.”

Mace added, “we should all be able to feel safe in our own homes, regardless of our political beliefs. I sincerely appreciate law enforcement doing all they can to find the criminal trespassers. This is the 2nd time I’ve been targeted for vandalism in the last few months.”

“There is a significant difference between nonviolent protests and criminal acts of intimidation and vandalism. I’m concerned too for my neighbors who’ve been impacted by this appalling criminal behavior,” her Twitter thread continued. I also want to take a moment to thank those same neighbors; so many have reached out to offer their assistance and support. I cannot thank the Charleston community enough.”

She concluded by writing, “as I’ve had time to digest what has happened over the last 24 hours, I also wanted to take a moment to urge people to think about their words and their actions. It’s not just social media, but our words impact real people and impact real lives. We should take it down a notch.”

“I also hope people realize just how hard I’m working for the 1st Congressional District and also how hard I’m working across both sides of the aisle – a particularly difficult task – given the vitriol of our current political environment. We can and we should do better for our kids and for our country.”

The vandals, in addition to the profanity and anarchist symbols, wrote “Pass the Pro Act” on her home — a measure that would penalize companies that violate labor laws and tamp down “right-to-work” laws.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster tweeted about the vandalism, saying “No one should ever have their home vandalized and this type of behavior is unacceptable and appalling. We are better than this as a country and divisive acts used for intimidation need to end. I’m certain our law enforcement agencies will find the guilty party.”

It is currently unknown if the police have any suspects.

Russia's top security chief sends stern warning: Moscow willing to use real force against foreign adversaries, not just sanctions

Just two weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed the country would “knock out the teeth” of any aggressors, the Security Council secretary has warned that unfriendly actions against Moscow may be met with force.

Speaking to newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta in an interview published on Monday, Nikolay Patrushev revealed that the country’s revised national security strategy means Moscow is now willing to use actual force and not just economic sanctions.

“The new version of the National Security Strategy emphasizes Russia's desire to increase predictability, confidence, and security in the international sphere,” Patrushev explained.

“At the same time, it notes the legitimacy of symmetric and asymmetric measures to suppress and prevent unfriendly actions that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia.”

In particular, he noted what he called “forceful methods of coercion,” which would come after the failure of special economic measures.

While Russia typically responds symmetrically to moves by foreign adversaries, often in a tit-for-tat manner, Moscow has recently shown willingness for asymmetrical measures. In April, after the Czech Republic expelled 18 Russian diplomats, the Kremlin decided to kick out 20 Czechs, upping the ante. Two days later, at Putin's annual address to the Federal Assembly, he warned foreign countries that anyone threatening Russia's national security would “regret their actions like they have never regretted anything before,” promising an “asymmetric, swift, and tough” response.

As well as new tactics on dealing with threats from other nations, the new security strategy submitted to the president also aims to improve Russia's competitiveness internationally and create conditions for economic growth at a rate above world levels. In particular, he noted that the country's economy should be resistant to sanctions pressure.

“An important condition for ensuring economic security is reliance on internal potential and independent solutions for problems faced by Russia while maintaining openness to mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries,” he explained.

However, despite the threats, Patrushev also suggested that Russia and its primary Western adversary, the US, are capable of reaching mutually acceptable solutions, despite the recent tensions. In particular, the Russian Security Council secretary noted positive discussions with Jake Sullivan, the US national security advisor. Putin is due to meet his American counterpart Joe Biden later this month, in Geneva.

As Major SCOTUS Rulings Loom, Sen. Blumenthal Warns Conservative Justices Of "Seismic" Changes If They Rule 'The Wrong Way'

I have previously criticized Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., for his almost unrivaled advocacy of censorship and speech controls. Blumenthal previously threatened social media companies not to “backslide” in censoring opposing views. Now, Blumenthal is taking up the cudgel of court packing with not so subtle threats to conservative justices that, if they do not vote with their liberal colleagues, the Court may be fundamentally altered.

He is not alone in such reckless and coercive rhetoric.

Blumenthal told The Hill:

“It will inevitably fuel and drive an effort to expand the Supreme Court if this activist majority betrays fundamental constitutional principles. It’s already driving that movement. Chipping away at Roe v. Wade will precipitate a seismic movement to reform the Supreme Court. It may not be expanding the Supreme Court, it may be making changes to its jurisdiction, or requiring a certain numbers of votes to strike down certain past precedents.”

The statement is reminiscent of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer declaring in front of the Supreme Court:

“I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price.”

Democratic leaders not only have embraced court packing but now openly threaten the Court to vote with the liberal justices or face dire consequences for the Court. The effort seems to be a play for the change in voting on the Court the followed prior threats for court packing in the 1930s. Faced with a conservative majority ruling against his New Deal legislation, Roosevelt called for up to six additional justices, one for every justice older than 70. That was basically the profile of the “four horsemen” blocking his measures.

Like the latest calls, the FDR plan was based on politics rather than principle. When the politics changed, the plan died. FDR dropped his plan as soon as he got what he wanted with a favorable majority. That is why the switch of Justice Owen Roberts in favor of a New Deal case became known as a “switch in time that saved nine.”

The Democrats are pushing to engage in court packing despite polls showing heavy opposition to the move from voters as well as opposition from the justices themselves. Before Ginsburg died, nine nominations had occurred in election years since 1900, and Ginsburg herself said in 2016 that the Senate had to do its “job” and vote on such nominations because “there’s nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being president in his last year.” Moreover, Ginsburg also opposed expanding the Court, but she is not being cited by liberals as the reason to doing precisely what she opposed as inimical to the functioning of the Court. Justice Steven Breyer has also denounced the move to pack the court.

CDC “Closely Tracking” Human Case of Bird Flu in China

The CDC is “closely tracking” a human case of the H10N3 strain of bird flu in China, possibly the world’s first.

A 41-year-old man in Jiangsu province was hospitalized on April 28 after developing a fever and is in stable condition, AP reported.

The National Health Commission said the infection is “accidental cross-species transmission.”

“The risk of large-scale transmission is low,” the agency said in a statement.

According to Reuters no other human cases of H10N3 have been reported elsewhere.

The collapse of Greensill Capital has been the biggest financial scandal of the year so far, having set off a massive public corruption scandal in the UK that has deeply embarrassed the ruling Conservative Party due to the close involvement of former PM David Cameron, who was on the Greensill payroll and was caught trying to steer relief funds meant for small businesses to Greensill to help avert its collapse.

Most recently, Credit Suisse cited Greensill as its reason for cutting off SoftBank from all future investment-banking business after the Japanese mega-conglomerate with a VC arm was caught lying about its real role in CS's trade finance funds that were stocked with Greensill-packaged assets. Softbank was essentially using the fund to quietly bolster some of its portfolio companies, while also serving as an investor in the fund - an obvious conflict that we first pointed out in 2019.

Israeli scientists extend lives of mice by 23%, say same may be possible for humans

A new study in which scientists extended the lifespan of laboratory mice by 23% through a special protein may pave the way for humans to celebrate 120th birthdays, its authors said.

Israeli scientists have boosted the supply of SIRT6 protein – which “controls the rate of healthy aging,” but usually declines in the system with age – in 250 mice and achieved some incredible results. The life expectancy of their test subjects not only increased by 23%, but they were also more youthful and less susceptible to cancer compared to ordinary mice, a peer-reviewed paper, recently published in the Nature Communications journal, has revealed.

“The changes we saw in mice may be translatable to humans, and if so that would be exciting,” Prof. Haim Cohen of Bar-Ilan University, who spearheaded the research, told the Times of Israel newspaper.

If humans receive an equivalent protein boost their average life expectancy could reach almost 120 years, he said. In 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic, the UN estimated the average life expectancy was 72.6 years.

Cohen’s lab is currently looking for ways to safely increase the levels of SIRT6 protein in people. The mice were genetically modified, but humans would require drugs to achieve the same effect.

“We are developing small molecules that may increase the levels of SIRT6, or make existing amounts of the protein more active,” the scientist said, adding that he expects concrete results in two or three years.

Cohen has been working on the issue for a long time, and already reported a 15% increase in the life expectancy of mice in 2012. However, his remedy only worked for male rodents back then.

The new study, which was a collaboration of international scientists including Prof. Rafael de Cabo of the US National Institutes of Health, has seen a major improvement. Male animals were living 30% longer than their counterparts from the control group, while the life expectancy of females also grew by 15%.

The symptom of aging in mice is the loss of the ability to extract energy from fats and lactic acid after a small period without food. But, according to the paper, the animals with high levels of SIRT6 didn’t have such a problem despite their older age. Moreover, their lives weren’t just longer, but of better quality, as they had less cholesterol, showed fewer cases of cancer and could run faster.

Italians furious as ‘people-slayer’ mafia boss linked with 100 killings is released from prison after 25 years

Sicilian mafia boss Giovanni Brusca, dubbed the ‘people slayer’, has been released from Rome’s Rebibbia prison on parole after serving 25 years for his role in more than 100 murders. The move has been heavily criticized in Italy.

The mafia chief, who later turned informant and helped secure the prosecution of other criminals, was arrested in 1996 and sentenced to prison after admitting to having played a part in more than 100 murders, including the brutal killing of a 14-year-old boy whose body was dissolved in acid.

Brusca’s release from prison comes after he was previously granted temporary leave on a number of occasions. With his release legally required after serving his sentence and providing assistance in convicting fellow members of the Cosa Nostra, he will now be on parole for the next four years.

The situation has united both sides of Italy’s political system in condemnation, with Enrico Letta, the leader of the center-left Democratic Party, describing it to RTL as a “punch in the stomach,” while Matteo Salvini, head of the right-wing League Party, stated on Twitter that “this is not the justice that Italians deserve.”

The families of some of Brusca’s victims also criticized his parole, saying his cooperation with prosecutors was simply a cynical ploy to “only to get the benefits” rather than out of genuine remorse.

However, Italy’s chief anti-mafia prosecutor, Federico Cafiero De Raho, defended Brusca’s release, telling Reuters the decision was due to the convicted killer’s “collaboration” with prosecutors.

EU Covid-19 certificate system goes live as 7 countries kickstart scheme to re-open summer travel

The technical system supporting the EU’s Covid-19 certificate scheme to facilitate European travel has gone live, with seven member states having signed up so far, the European Commission announced on Tuesday.

Poland has now joined Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, and Greece in backing the program, which will allow travelers to demonstrate their vaccination and infection status.

The seven states have started issuing the certificates, which use QR codes to allow people to verify their details with the relevant border authorities.

No personal data is exchanged or retained during this process, while paper versions are also available for those without smart phones, the Commission said.

It added that more member states will join in the coming weeks before the scheme launches fully on July 1.

Brussels has called on all EU states to participate and to prepare their own national systems to issue, store, and verify the certificates.

The certificates will allow travelers within the bloc to avoid quarantine if they are fully vaccinated, have recovered from the virus, or have tested negative.

The Commission has advised member states to adopt a 72-hour validity period before travel for PCR tests and 48 hours for rapid antigen tests.

Meanwhile, the EU is reportedly negotiating with the US about the entry of American travelers into the bloc under the scheme.

Pope Francis unveils major revision of Church penal code addressing sex abuse issues

Pope Francis has unveiled a key revision to Catholic Church law, expanding its penal code and making it significantly less vague, as it now contains clear directives on sexual abuse of minors, pornography and other misdeeds.

The updated Book VI of the Code of Canon Law was unveiled by the Vatican on Tuesday. The new text is the result of over a decade of work to revise the code, launched back under Pope Benedict XVI.

Announcing the revision, Pope Francis said the changes were performed to provide the Church with a more “agile salvific and corrective tool” needed to “avoid more serious evils and to soothe the wounds caused by human weakness.” Another aim of the revisions was to “reduce the number of cases in which the imposition of a penalty was left to the discretion of authorities,” the pontiff added.

The new text introduces various changes to the law currently in force and imposes sanctions on some new offenses.

The revised Book VI contains nearly 90 canons, which is some 30 articles more compared to its previous revision. The new variant is also significantly less vague than its predecessor, as it explicitly names the offenses and punishments for them.

Namely, the code contains an entirely new section titled ‘Offences against human life, dignity and liberty’. Among other things, the section describes offenses “against the sixth commandment” – i.e. adultery – “with a minor or with a person who habitually has an imperfect use of reason.” A cleric found guilty of such behavior “is to be punished with deprivation of office and with other just penalties,” including permanent dismissal from the clerical state.

A similar fate awaits priests found guilty of “grooming or inducing” minors to expose themselves “pornographically,” as well as simply “immorally” acquiring, stashing and distributing pornographic imagery of minors “by whatever technology.”

Apart from addressing the sex abuse issues that have been plaguing the Catholic Church for decades already, the revised code touches upon some other hot topics, related to women’s rights – namely, abortion and allowing women to be ordained.

The Vatican's stance on both of the women-related issues remains unchanged and quite conservative, the revised Book VI shows. Namely, a “person who actually procures an abortion” automatically becomes the target for excommunication

Similarly, “both a person who attempts to confer a sacred order on a woman, and the woman who attempts to receive the sacred order” face excommunication, with the cleric also risking permanent expulsion from the priests’ ranks. Earlier this year, the Pope formally allowed women to read mass, yet he reaffirmed that ordained ministries, such as the priesthood, remain reserved for men only.

Top Chinese mouthpiece suggests country prepare for nuclear war with US as Wuhan lab leak theory gains momentum

Hu Xijin, a top Chinese propagandist, declared recently that China should prepare for a nuclear showdown with the United States after President Joe Biden affirmed continued investigations into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once decried as a conspiracy theory — despite a lack of evidence disproving the possibility — the Wuhan lab leak theory as the origin of the pandemic has gained significant footing in recent weeks, with high-profile scientists saying the possibility demands increased investigation.

Biden responded to growing confidence in the theory last week by calling on American intelligence officials to conduct more investigation into the pandemic's origin, including the possibility that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

"The United States will also keep working with like-minded partners around the world to press China to participate in a full, transparent, evidence-based international investigation and to provide access to all relevant data and evidence," Biden said in a statement.

What did Hu say?

The Chinese propagandist, who edits the Beijing-controlled Global Times newspaper, responded to Biden's statement by saying China must prepare for a "high-intensity showdown" after citing China's nuclear armament.

According to Australia's Daily Telegraph, Hu's message was published to Sena Wiebo, China's Twitter-like social media platform.

The message, translated by Chinese human rights activist Jennifer Zeng, read, in part:

Given the intensifying US strategic containment of China, I would like to remind once again that we have many urgent tasks, but one of the most important is to keep rapidly increasing the number of nuclear warheads and strategic missiles like the Dongfeng 41 with extremely long-range and high survival capabilities. This is the cornerstone of China's strategic resilience against the United States.

We must be prepared for a high-intensity showdown between the US and China, at which point a large number of DF-41 and JL-2 and JL-3 will be the backbone of our strategic will. Our nuclear missiles must be so numerous that the US elite will tremble at the thought of military confrontation with China at that time.

The comments are particularly eyebrow-raising because Hu claims to speak for government officials who cannot speak publicly.

In fact, Hu explained in 2016 that he pals around with Chinese government officials and admitted, "They can't speak willfully, but I can," a suggestion that he broadcasts the sentiments of communist officials.

Hu similarly told CNN in 2019 that his newspaper and opinions reflect the views of the Chinese people.

"We say things out loud," Hu said. "You could call us radical or nationalistic, but we reflect true sentiments of Chinese society. You could learn the truth better through us."

China has vehemently denied that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan bio lab.

Beijing has claimed the pandemic originated in a wet market in Wuhan where the virus jumped from an infected animal to humans.

The communist government has also suggested the pandemic originated in America, their direct response to former President Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo having claimed publicly that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan lab. Beijing has interpreted all suggestions that COVID-19 did not emerge naturally as acts of aggression.

Dr. Anthony Fauci corresponded with a Chinese health official early in the pandemic, acknowledging the “crazy people in this world” and vowing to “get through this together,” a new report revealed Tuesday.

The nation’s top expert on infectious diseases received an email March 28, 2020, from George Gao, director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in which Gao apologized for saying the US and other countries were making a “big mistake” by not encouraging people to wear masks from the get-go, according to correspondence obtained by the Washington Post.

“How could I say such a word ‘big mistake’ about others? That was journalist’s wording. Hope you understand,” Gao wrote Fauci. “Lets work together to get the virus out of the earth.”

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases responded, “I understand completely. No problem. We will get through this together.”

The move comes just over a month after Joe Biden’s Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, “issued a blanket authorization for U.S. diplomatic outposts around the world to fly the Pride flag on the same flagpole as the U.S. flag at their embassy or consulate showcasing support for LGBTQ rights.” This is a policy reversal from that of the Trump administration under former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

However, Foreign Policy notes that “the authorization is not a requirement and chiefs of mission who run each embassy or consulate can choose whether to fly the Pride flag or showcase other symbols connoting support for LGBTQ rights based on what is ‘appropriate in light of local conditions.'” Many Twitter users questioned whether embassies in Middle Eastern countries – many of which still criminalize homosexuality – would fly the flag.

Black Lives Matter Founder Calls On Followers To ‘Train In Marxist Theory’ In Unearthed Speech.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors encouraged followers to become “trained in Marxist theory” while speaking on a panel in 2016, The National Pulse can reveal.

The unearthed remarks, which echo Cullors’s admission she and fellow Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Alicia Garza are “trained Marxists,” came from a panel event hosted by the New Urban Collective (NUC) in December of 2016. Located in Amsterdam, NUC hosted the “Black Intellectual Gathering: #BlackLivesMatter on Love & Activism” event on December 21st, 2016 and featured four activists in addition to the BLM co-founder, including her wife Janaya Kahn.

When asked by an audience member about how to build social movements, Cullors reveals she is “trained in Marxist theory” and encourages others to do the same:

“I really encourage people to study political education. Something our movement is lacking deeply is the people having a deeper understanding of why we’re in the place we’re in in the first place and different theories and models around organizing. I’m a trained organizer. I was trained in Marxist theory. I think we need to be training in multiple theories, and so I would really encourage folks to study, study groups. Base your practice in theory, right? Praxis.”

The unearthed comments follow The National Pulse revealing controversial comments from Cullors – who recently stepped down from her leadership role within BLM – including calls to “end” Israel and relishing in comparisons to Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao.

Florida Gov. DeSantis Signs Bill Banning Transgender Athletes From Women’s Sports

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that would bar transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports at schools and universities across Florida.

DeSantis, a Republican, signed the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” on Tuesday morning in Jacksonville, saying that in schools, “girls are going to play girls’ sports, and boys are going to play boys’ sports.”

The Florida state Legislature passed a measure in April that prevents transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, saying that it would be unfair and argued that biological males possess significant physical advantages over females.

“We believe in the state of Florida protecting the fairness and integrity of women’s athletics,” said DeSantis in Jacksonville alongside several female athletes at the Trinity Christian Academy.

State Sen. Kelli Stargel, a Republican who sponsored the legislation, noted that “we all know that men are stronger than women.”

“I’ve always heard as a kid, ‘You run like a girl,’” she said, referring to a video showing Selina Soule, a Connecticut track athlete who filed a lawsuit over biologically male transgender athletes competing in high school girls’ sports.

“And when you’re looking at that video,” Stargel said, “it’s evident the woman, the transgender woman who competed, or self-identified woman, ran very differently than the others in the competition. It’s physiologically different. Men are stronger, they have bigger lung capacity, stronger muscles.”

The state’s Democratic Party accused DeSantis and Republicans of being discriminatory.

“The language denigrating trans youth incorporated in this bill shows how little the Republican-led legislature regards equal treatment for all our young people,” said the state Democratic Party in a statement.

But Stargel pushed back, saying Republicans are not against any particular group and that the bill is about fairness.

“This is not about that. This is about sports and having competitive advantage and having the ability to compete,” she remarked on Tuesday, adding that the bill will benefit women.

DeSantis also dismissed a pressure campaign from corporations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) that they might pull out of Florida due to the bill. In 2017, the NCAA pulled events from North Carolina after a similar bill was passed.

“Some of these organizations say they’re not going to hold events if you do this. Just let me say very clearly, in Florida, we’re going to do what’s right, we’ll stand up to corporations, they are not going to dictate the policies in this state,” the governor said. “We will stand up to groups like the NCAA, who think that they should be able to dictate the policies in different states.”
