Big hit piece on Karen Fann

https://www.exposedbycmd.org/2021/06/02/top-alec-official-is-ringleader-of-arizona-election-audit-circus/

The public face of the preposterous Maricopa County ballot audit is Republican Arizona State Senate President Karen Fann—who also serves as the second-highest ranking board member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the country’s pre-eminent pay-to-play corporate lobbying group.

The audit, which has now earned the nickname “The Mess in Maricopa,” is the most conspicuous ongoing attempt by Republicans to bolster the “Big Lie” conspiracy theory that Donald Trump didn’t really lose the presidential election in November.

In her role as ALEC board treasurer, Fann oversees the group’s agenda and is likely next in line to become its national chair, as ALEC does not currently have a vice chair. Unlike other ideologically conservative lobbying groups, ALEC’s business model is specifically to pursue corporate agendas at the state level.

In 2012, ALEC was forced to publicly disband its “Public Safety and Elections” task force after scores of major corporations started dropping their membership due to its pursuit of “Stand Your Ground” and Voter ID model legislation.

But in the summer of 2019, ALEC secretly launched a “Process Working Group” that is tasked with elections and redistricting. Fann is part of that group, which is chaired by fellow Arizona State Rep. Shawnna Bolick (R) as well as disgraced attorney and Trump advisor Cleta Mitchell.

Democrat Chicanery afoot

https://www.businessinsider.com/senate-official-democrats-gop-filibuster-recession-biden-infrastructure-2021-6

A new ruling from the Senate parliamentarian could pose a roadblock for President Joe Biden's $4 trillion economic agenda and Democrats attempting to evade a Republican filibuster as they push ahead with major spending plans on health, education, and childcare.

A ruling issued last Friday from Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough said there are limits to the number of times Democrats can embark on reconciliation in a given fiscal year. It's a legislative tactic designed to approve some bills with a simple majority of 51 votes in the Senate, as also skirt the 60-vote threshold known as the filibuster. A person familiar confirmed the official's ruling.

Any amendment to an existing budget, such as the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief law approved in March under reconciliation, would have to go through the full committee and amendment process. It indicates that revisiting a budget resolution would contain no procedural shortcuts compared to opening a new one.

Rulings from MacDonough are not made public. It was first reported by Punchbowl News.

Former President Donald Trump has shut down his blog after less than a month as he moves toward what a senior aide described as his plan to join another social media platform.

Trump senior adviser Jason Miller confirmed Wednesday that “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” has been shuttered after less than a month.

“It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on,” Mr. Miller said in a Wednesday message to The Washington Times.

As word spread, former Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian asked on Twitter whether the shutdown was a “precursor to him joining another social media platform.”

Mr. Miller replied: “Yes, actually, it is. Stay tuned!”

He offered no further details, but Mr. Miller said in March that the president plans to launch his own social-media platform after being booted off Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
