The delegation toured the Veterans Memorial Coliseum to get more information on the logistics of the audit as well.

Churches Wrestle $2M From Gavin Newsom Over COVID Lockdowns

The State of California has agreed to pay more than $2 million to a San Diego church and a Catholic priest who challenged Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-Calif.) unconstitutional COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, which violated the Christian leaders’ religious freedom. In two separate settlements, Newsom awarded $1.6 million to South Bay United Pentecostal Church and $550,000 to Catholic Priest Father Trevor Burfitt. Judges also granted permanent injunctions to protect their religious freedom rights.

“The South Bay case represents an unprecedented three trips to the United States Supreme Court in a one-year period, which resulted in a landmark decision that opened up the churches in California for 40 million people,” Charles LiMandri, a special counsel at the Thomas More Society who represented South Bay, said in a statement on the settlement. “The permanent injunctions in these cases uphold and protect one of the most cherished principles of our republic: The Free Exercise of Religion.”

“Restrictions on churches cannot be more severe than restrictions on retail. We are pleased with the final results in these two important cases,” Paul Jonna, another South Bay lawyer, added.

South Bay challenged Newsom’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” for lifting COVID-19 restrictions, which treated religious services more harshly than retail and dine-in restaurants. The church’s challenge ultimately prevailed when the Supreme Court ordered the lower court to reconsider the case according to the precedent in Tandon v. Newsom (2021). In that case, the Supreme Court overruled the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, granting an injunction allowing in-home prayer meetings.

The Burfitt case, meanwhile, paved the way for Tandon. Father Burfitt challenged Newsom’s Blueprint and Judge Gregory Pulskamp issued a preliminary injunction in the priest’s favor, ruling that the Blueprint had failed to treat houses of worship in a manner “equal to the favored classes of entities” referred to as “essential businesses.”

Thomas More Society lawyer Christopher Farrah cited that injunction while celebrating California’s ultimate capitulation to Burfitt’s religious liberty claim.

“The injunction in Burfitt was the first of its kind in the country, anticipating what the Supreme Court would later hold definitively, that houses of worship must receive the same treatment as the most favored secular comparators,” Farrah noted. “If favored businesses are allowed 100% occupancy during a pandemic, so must churches be allowed.”

LiMandri and Jonna are currently representing Grace Community Church Pastor John MacArthur, who is still fighting COVID-19 injunctions against the church.

These hefty settlements send a powerful warning to governors like Newsom. Violations of religious freedom will not be taken lightly. These two cases have cost Newsom’s government more than $2 million, and they likely won’t be the last.

Scientists find no evidence strain is fast-moving beast

The COVID-19 strain at the centre of the outbreak that has forced Melbourne into a second week of lockdown is not moving faster than other variants of the virus or spreading in new, unexpected ways, Australia’s peak pandemic advisory group has found.

The government justified Wednesday’s extension of the lockdown by claiming what is now being called the “Kappa” variant of the virus is more contagious than previous outbreaks and infections are occurring more readily between people who only briefly came into contact.

University of Melbourne Professor James McCaw, an infectious disease expert and member of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, which advises the national cabinet, said this was not supported by the data he had seen.

“There is no epidemiological evidence that this virus spreads faster,” he said. “There is no clear reason to think this virus is spreading in different ways.

“We need to be very cautious. We are on an absolute knife-edge in Victoria about whether we bring this under control rapidly or it develops further. But I don’t think it is helpful to seed alarmist or doomsday-type thoughts into the community.”

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton, who has described the virus strain at large in Melbourne as an “absolute beast” that was spreading “in settings and circumstances we’ve never seen before”, toned down his language on Wednesday, as acting Premier James Merlino detailed the state’s next stage of COVID-19 restrictions.

Child found dead in motel room believed to be missing Houston boy

A dead child was found stuffed in a tote bag in a Texas motel room — and the body is believed to be a missing 6-year-old Houston boy, according to police and reports.

The boy, discovered Tuesday inside the bag at a Best Western in Jasper, is believed to be Samuel Olson, who was reported missing Thursday by his father and his girlfriend, Theresa Balboa, Houston Assistant Police Chief Heather Morris told reporters at a press conference Wednesday.

“Our hearts go out to the family members of Samuel,” Morris said. “We are very saddened by the events that have brought us here today.”

Balboa, the girlfriend of Samuel’s father, Dalton Olson, has been charged with tampering with evidence in the active investigation and may face additional charges, Morris said.

Balboa has been talking with investigators and “that’s going to be ongoing,” Morris told reporters, adding that a medical examiner will confirm the dead child’s identity.

The body was discovered in a tote bag at the motel, KTVT reported. KTRK identified the location as a Best Western in Jasper.

Cops responded to a southwest Houston home on May 27 and met Olson, and Balboa, who said she was told by a man she believed to be a police officer that she’d go to jail unless she handed over the boy, Morris said.

Investigators found “inconsistencies” in Balboa’s statements, leading them to obtain a search warrant for her apartment. The evidence found at the home, including a 2012 Dodge Avenger that was towed away, will be processed for “forensic value,” Morris said.

Samuel was last seen at Holbrook Elementary School on April 30, weeks before he was reported missing. The boy may have been missing since that time, Morris said.

“Other than that, we don’t have information yet as far as when was the last time he was actually seen,” Morris told reporters.

An anonymous tip led cops to the hotel where Balboa was found in a hotel room with the child’s body.

“It is absolutely heartbreaking,” she told reporters. “And as far as a motive, we do not have a motive at this point in time.”

Balboa was out on bond at the time of her arrest for allegedly attacking her boyfriend She was charged in November with assault of a family member-impeding breathing, Morris said.

Balboa was being held in Jasper County Jail, Morris said. Investigators were also talking to Olson, although she stopped short of characterizing him as a suspect in the case.

California’s ‘Reparations Task Force’ Aims To Create Black Version Of The G.I. Bill That Will Give Away Land, Homes, And Cash

Military veterans may soon see their benefits dwarfed by those given to black Californians purely on the basis of race

California governor Gavin Newsom has created a “reparations task force” whose sole directive is to brainstorm new ways for the state to give cash and other luxuries to black people, with no other variables being considered other than skin color. Officials have claimed the task force will combat unspecified harms incurred in 2021 by the practice of slavery, which ended in 1863.

The task force’s mission to give money and grant special privileges to black people is slated to be a two-year process, where various ideas are discussed such as the state government buying houses for black people or drafting frequent apology letters. The “descendants of slaves” featured on the panel primarily consist of wealthy lawyers, activists, politicians, and academics.

Although slavery was a recurring topic during the formation of the task force, California was actually not part of the Confederacy and was in fact considered a “Free State,” a fact which was not mentioned by any of the activists on the reparations panel. Nonetheless, California’s Secretary of State Shirley Webber demanded of the panel, “Your task is to determine the depth of the harm, and the ways in which we are to repair that harm.”

“We have lost more than we have ever taken from this country. We have given more than has ever been given to us,” task force member and state senator Steven Bradford said, without elaborating further. According to the Associated Press, Bradford wants to model the task force’s race-based preferential reparations program on the G.I. bill, which provides benefits to military servicemen.

Current benefits of the G.I. bill include low-cost mortgages, low-interest loans to start a business or farm, unemployment compensation, dedicated payments of tuition for high school and college, housing allowances, and other stipends. Considering California already boasts a staggering state debt of $777 million, it remains unclear how the “reparations task force” plans to enact discriminatory and preferential race-based payments on such a grand scale.

National File senior reporter Patrick Howley, who first broke the story exposing Fauci’s funding of “gain of function” research at the Wuhan lab in China, noted that “Fauci initially told people not to wear masks before changing his stance on the issue, and American children have been wearing the slave masks in large part due to Fauci’s advice. US Agency Not Doing Its Job to Halt Tech to China’s Military: Congressional Report

The U.S. Commerce Department is failing to do its part to protect national security and keep sensitive technology out of the hands of China’s military, according to a U.S. congressional advisory report (pdf).

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission report said the Commerce Department had been slow to create a list of sensitive technology that should be scrutinized before export to China.

The lag in developing the list of emerging and foundational technologies, as required by a 2018 law, may exacerbate national security risks, the report said.

The Commerce Department, entrusted to strengthen U.S. export control laws, “has, to date, failed to carry out its responsibilities,” said the report, titled, “Unfinished Business: Export Control and Foreign Investment Reforms.”

In a statement, the Commerce Department declined to directly respond to the lack of a list, but noted it had published four rules on controls on emerging technologies, and more are pending.

It also said it had expanded the military end-user rule and added companies to its entity list, which restricts U.S. suppliers from selling to companies like Huawei Technologies and Hangzhou Hikvision.

In 2018, Congress tightened U.S. export policies and the process for screening foreign investment in response to efforts by Chinese entities to obtain sensitive U.S. technology and use civilian innovation for the military.

The report questions whether a more-than-two-year delay in developing the list should be investigated by the Commerce Department’s inspector general. It also asks whether the authority to enforce export controls should be delegated to another agency.

Congress passed the Export Control Reform Act of 2018 to make it harder to export key technologies to adversaries like China.

The law directed the Commerce Department to work with other agencies to identify emerging, or cutting edge, technologies and so-called foundational technologies essential to making key items like semiconductors, that should be controlled.

Lapid informs president he can form government removing Netanyahu from power

But coalition won’t be finalized until Knesset vote in 12 days; right-wing MK indicates he could oppose it, possibly dooming bid; Ra’am becomes 1st Arab party to ink coalition deal

Thirty-five minutes before a midnight deadline, Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid on Wednesday night informed President Reuven Rivlin he is able to form a government in which he and Yamina chief Naftali Bennett will switch off as prime minister, positioning themselves to replace Israel’s longest-serving leader Benjamin Netanyahu as premier.

Under the terms of the new coalition, Bennett is to serve as prime minister until September 2023, when Lapid will take over from him until the end of the Knesset term in November 2025. The agreement came together after Ra’am leader Mansour Abbas threw his support behind the would-be government late on Wednesday night, setting up his Islamist party to be the first majority Arab party to be part of a ruling coalition in Israel’s history.

Despite Lapid’s declaration, it remained unclear if the prospective “change government” will make it past the finish line, as his declaration must still be approved by the president, and the Knesset vote of confidence to approve the government likely won’t be held for nearly two weeks. In addition, another right-wing Yamina lawmaker on Wednesday night announced he could vote against the new coalition, a move that could potentially doom the prospective razor-thin government of right-wing, centrist, left-wing parties and an Islamist faction.

“I congratulate you and the heads of the parties on your agreement to form a government. We expect the Knesset will convene as soon as possible to ratify the government, as required,” Rivlin told Lapid in the phone call between them on Wednesday night, according to the President’s Office.

The Knesset must schedule a vote of confidence in the new government. However, as the next plenum session is not until Monday, June 7, it would only be then that the Knesset Speaker, Likud’s Yariv Levin, is formally informed that he needs to schedule a vote on the new government. He then has up to a week to schedule that vote, so it would likely only be scheduled for June 14, giving Netanyahu and his supporters 12 days to try to deprive Lapid and Bennett of their majority.

A couple months later, the man responsible for steering U.S. government funding to the Wuhan Institution of Virology, Peter Daszak, the president of the EcoHealth Alliance, thanked Dr. Anthony Fauci on April 18, 2020 for publicly dismissing the theory coronavirus may have leaked from the lab.

“I just wanted to say a personal thank you on behalf of our staff and collaborators, for publicly standing up and stating that the scientific evidence supports a natural origin for COVID-19 from a bat-to-human spillover, not a lab release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” Daszak emailed.

Breitbart News reported March 29, 2020, Daszak would be in Wuhan personally leading a World Health Organization (W.H.O.) team nearly 12 months earlier charged with investigating the theory of an accidental laboratory leak being behind the origin of coronavirus.

Daszak even told CBS’s Lesley Stahl shortly after there was “no evidence” to back the theory that a leak led to the virus.

But Kevin J. Olival, a researcher for the same company, EcoHealth Alliance, received a letter dated April 19, 2020 from Dr. Michael Lauer, the NIH’s deputy director for extramural research, informing Olival the potentiality of a lab leak is under investigation:

There are now allegations that the current crisis was precipitated by the release from WIV of the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. Given these concerns, we are pursuing suspension of WIV from participation in Federal programs.

Pentagon on Report of U.S. Special Operations Forces in Taiwan: We Take Our Responsibility Seriously

The Pentagon on Tuesday did not deny a recent Taiwanese news media report that United States special operations forces (SOF) are headed to Taiwan to help train their counterparts.

Asked by Breitbart News to confirm the report by Taiwan News, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said, “I don’t have anything to comment on that press report. The only thing I would add is, and we’ve said this before, we take our responsibility seriously to help Taiwan defend itself in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act.”

Taiwan News reported that the Taiwanese defense minister said “multiple U.S. special forces units” will arrive in the country to train with their Taiwanese counterparts following the Han Kuang 37 military exercise.

Han Kuang 37 is Taiwan’s largest annual military exercise that simulates a full-scale enemy invasion in a worst-case scenario lasting eight days, Newsweek reported. The goal is to repel a Chinese invasion for a full week, the report said.

The Taiwanese defense ministry also said Taiwan-U.S. military training and exchanges have been “frequent,” due to China’s military threat against Taiwan.

China considers Taiwan — which has a democratically-elected government for decades — part of its territory to be eventually reunited under its communist rule, even if by military force. While the U.S. acknowledges China’s position on Taiwan under the “One China” policy, it has also pledged support to help Taiwan defend itself against any hostile takeover by China.

In recent months, China has been staging increasingly larger and more aggressive military exercises closer to Taiwan. American experts warn China could move to retake Taiwan before the end of 2030.

The Taiwanese news report includes details on COVID-19 protocols U.S. troops will have to take before arriving to Taiwan’s military bases.

The report adds:

Su Tzu-yun (蘇紫雲), an analyst at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, said the arrival of U.S. troops reflects Washington’s fears of a Chinese assault on Taiwan. The analyst added that Taiwan’s recent decision to rename the Army’s various corps and defense commands as five distinct theater commands is intended to strengthen combat readiness.

Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict Christopher Maier told the Senate Armed Services Committee last week that U.S. special operations forces would be a “key contributor” to helping Taiwan strengthen its ability to conduct irregular warfare.

Maier said Taiwan could build on fighting “in depth” in the case of a Chinese military advance where “there could be some opportunities for…resistance networks or other capabilities that would be leave-behind, if you will, against a potential enemy amphibious landing.”

As far as SOF aiding conventional U.S. forces in deterring Chinese aggression, Maier said, “I think information operations is a key area where U.S. [Special Operations Command] brings a lot of capability and we need to, I think, continue to improve upon that.”

“One of the priorities I certainly have in looking at the competition space is how we can be better in that information environment and that of course is not only a SOF capability alone,” he said.

The Daily Mail released another Hunter Biden story today. It turns out Hunter did know his baby’s mama and he had her kicked off of his company’s insurance plan after she got pregnant.

Hunter Biden claimed he had ‘no recollection’ of the Arkansas woman who bore his child – but texts reveal that she worked for him, and that she told him about the pregnancy in 2018.

The bombshell messages also show that just three months after Lunden Roberts gave birth to their baby girl, Navy Joan Roberts, Hunter asked his assistant to make sure that the new mother had been kicked off his company’s health insurance plan.

The texts are on Hunter’s abandoned laptop, obtained and exclusively verified by DailyMail.com.

What a creep. In the first text at The Daily Mail, the baby’s momma, Lunden Roberts tried to reach Hunter multiple times but Hunter would not respond:

Then in the second set of texts from Hunter’s laptop, Hunter text his assistant Katie Dodge and requested that Dodge ensure the baby’s mama, Roberts, was no longer on his company’s payroll.

The Daily Mail went on to note that in his memoir, Beautiful Things, Hunter referred to Lunden as ‘the woman from Arkansas’ and claimed he had ‘no recollection of our encounter’. This appears to be another Biden lie as he obviously knew her which is why he wanted her kicked off his company’s payroll.

According to Bloomberg, under Biden’s amended order, the Treasury Department will create a list of companies that could face financial penalties for their connection to China’s defense and surveillance technology sectors, the people said. Previously, the nature of the financial sanctions and the specific companies targeted were set via a Congressionally mandated report from the Pentagon.

The amended order, which Biden is set to sign later this week, will change the criteria for entry on the blacklist to capture those companies that operate in the defense or surveillance technology sectors. Previously, President Trump's more broad-based order targeted companies owned, controlled or otherwise affiliated with the Chinese military. The order will also shift control of the blacklist from the Pentagon to the Treasury.
