GraceLife Church, west of Edmonton, remains confiscated by the province of Alberta after the church property was seized by RCMP and Alberta Health Services two months ago in a dawn raid.

The entire church property remains fenced off, though the RCMP that initially secured the location have since gone, with private Paladin Security guards left to monitor the area. Supporters of the congregation have tied yellow ribbons on the bars of the security fencing and have left Bibles and religious literature for the guards on site. The church's yard is becoming overgrown as no one is allowed in to mow the grass and perform maintenance.

The condition of the church property is in stark contrast to the white linens and whisky luxury that Premier Jason Kenney and his senior cabinet ministers, including Health Minister Tyler Shandro, were seen indulging in after photos of the after work not-socially-distant social gathering in the scandal-plagued Sky Palace penthouse patio in the Federal Building were leaked online. Current health restrictions dictate that people from outside the same household cannot dine together on restaurant patios, however, outdoor gatherings without food and drink can be held in numbers of 10 or fewer.

In the early morning hours of April 7, 2021, the GraceLife property was fenced off under three layers of portable fencing to prevent the congregation and their pastor, James Coates, from using the building to hold church services that did not conform to public health limits on places of worship. The restrictions at the time of the raid forced churches to limit capacity to 15 per cent of fire code capacity, social distance and wear masks, even while singing.

Pastor Coates was arrested in his church office on February 7 for breaching an undertaking to comply with public health orders. Coates turned himself into local RCMP and was held in the maximum security Remand Centre in Edmonton for 35 days, after it was alleged he breached the conditions of his release by holding a non compliant church service on February 14, 2021.

Coates will be back in court on Monday to hear a decision on Charter arguments stemming from his May 3-5 trial. The case still has a further hearing on the merits of the lockdown, where the government of Alberta will be forced to produce evidence to support their pandemic response.

Ontario Public Service apologizes for “racism” and “white supremacy” within civil service

The leadership of Ontario’s Public Service (OPS) believes the province’s civil service is “racist” and built on “white supremacy.”

According to Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley, an email was sent to all government staff apologizing for the work culture on Thursday. The email was signed by deputy ministers across the Ontario public service and a third-party report was included.

The head of the OPS Steven Davidson wrote in the email that he was sorry for “racism” within the public service.

“The society we live in – its history, its culture and its institutions – has been shaped by colonialism, slavery, racism and xenophobia,” wrote Davidson.

Davidson claims that the Ontario public service has privileged white people while restricting opportunities for racialized people.

The third-party report went even further and claimed the OPS was an unwelcoming environment for racialized people.

“Many employees in discussion groups felt that the OPS was a fundamentally racist organization,” said the report. “One employee stated, with the agreement from discussion group participants, that ‘the OPS is a white supremacist organization and those at the top have no real desire to see anything change because it will mean diminished power and control for them.’”

While both the report and Davidson’s email made no mention of the demographics within Ontario’s public service, a recent socio-demographic profile from 2019 suggests the province’s civil service is in fact a diverse body, including at the executive level.

Women make up 48.3% of the total workforce in Ontario, 58.8% of the public service and 51.1% of the top executive positions.

LGBTQ+ individuals make up 2.7% of the province’s workforce, 11.8% of the public service and 12.5% at the executive level.

Meanwhile, racialized Canadians represent 28.3% of Ontario’s labour force, 23.2% of the civil service and 16.2% of top executive positions.

The City of Halifax recently initiated a report as “part of the ongoing efforts to achieve better balance in relation to gender parity” and to “determine if there were barriers inherent in our pay structures that would interfere with our ability to attract and retain female employees.”

The report concluded that no gender pay gap exists in the city’s pay systems.

Another new scientific study has concluded that it is more likely than not that the COVID pandemic originated with a virus engineered inside a lab.

Dr. Stephen Quay and Berkeley physics professor Richard Muller revealed the findings in The Wall Street Journal Sunday, noting that “The most compelling reason to favor the lab leak hypothesis is firmly based in science.”

The scientists added that “COVID-19 has a genetic footprint that has never been observed in a natural coronavirus.”

The research points to the genome sequencing of the virus ‘CGG-CGG’, which is one of 36 sequencing patterns observed, but does not occur in nature.

“The CGG-CGG combination has never been found naturally. That means the common method of viruses picking up new skills, called recombination, cannot operate here,” the scientists assert.

“A virus simply cannot pick up a sequence from another virus if that sequence isn’t present in any other virus,” they add, while also noting that the CGG-CGG combination IS commonly used in ‘gain of function’ research, which is known to have been used with coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The scientists urge that those who believe COVID-19 jumped from animals to humans “must explain why it happened to pick its least favorite combination: CGG-CGG.”

They further ask for an explanation as to “Why did it replicate the choice the lab’s gain-of-function researchers would have made?”

“Yes, it could have happened randomly, through mutations. But do you believe that?” the authors of the study ask, adding “At the minimum, this fact—that the coronavirus, with all its random possibilities, took the rare and unnatural combination used by human researchers—implies that the leading theory for the origin of the coronavirus must be laboratory escape.”

This latest study comes on the heels of a revitalised focus on scientific research by Professor Angus Dalgleish of St George’s Hospital, University of London and Norwegian virologist Birger Sorensen which presents compelling evidence suggesting the virus was manufactured in a laboratory.

As the scientists noted, they were ostracised and ignored until recently when intelligence findings revealed that workers at the Wuhan lab fell sick with COVID-19 symptoms in November 2019.

As the global pandemic unfolded, scores of scientists came forward suggesting the genome sequencing of the virus was unnatural, and should be further investigated. The lab leak theory was effectively shut down, however, when scientists led by Dr Peter Daszak “orchestrated a ‘bullying’ campaign and coerced top scientists into signing off on a letter to The Lancet journal aimed at removing blame for Covid-19 from the Wuhan lab he was funding with US money.”

Daszak, who keeps appearing as the lead figure in investigations of the research he funded with US grant money via his own organisation, reportedly used his influence to get The Lancet to publish the letter, which stated that to even suggest the lab leak theory had any credibility was equal to spreading “fear, rumours, and prejudice.”

The release of Dr Fauci’s emails has also reconfirmed that Fauci was discussing the lab leak scenario with other scientists, and knew full well that it was a distinct possibility, despite making statements to the contrary in public, before any robust scientific research into the matter had been carried out.

Now former head of the Food and Drug Administration, Scott Gottlieb, has revealed that Fauci briefed world health leaders in the spring of 2020 that the lab leak was a possibility.

Appearing on CBS News this past weekend, Gottlieb admitted that Fauci told government health advisors that the virus “looked unusual,” and that scientists he was working with “had suspicions” that it was manipulated.

After last week's disappointing yet "goldilocks" payrolls report, the big event this week is Thursday’s US CPI release. As DB's Jim Reid writes, consensus estimates for May currently expect both the headline and core rate to rise +0.4% month-on-month which would lift the YoY rate to 4.7% and 3.4% respectively which will be the highest since late 2008 and 1993 which would be a pretty impressive feat especially on the core. "This will undoubtedly be the most watched data release this year so far", according to Deutsche Bank.

BofA's economists are even more aggressive, and expects an even stronger CPI report in May with core jumping 0.5% mom and headline up 0.4% mom. Coupled with positive base effects, % yoy core will jump to 3.5% from 3% and headline to 4.7% from 4.2%.

We will also pay close attention to the inflation expectations data in Friday's University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey (89.0 vs 82.9). DB's rates strategists feel that expectations are heading back to their 1998-2014 regime after 7 years of rock bottom levels likely due to the slump in the oil price around that time.

In turn this should be worth 3% on 10 year Treasuries. Their 2.25% YE forecast reflects a probability, rather than certainty, of this happening. Last month the 5-10 year expectation rose to a revised 3.0% with the 1yr at 4.6%.

This follows May’s employment report missing expectations. The 559k gain headline payrolls (496k private) was characterized by Cleveland Fed President Mester as "solid" but still short of "substantial further progress". She also noted that the data are "not anywhere near a wage-price spiral". While there was some evidence in the report that labour shortages are resulting in upward pressure on wages – high demand in the leisure & hospitality sector being the most obvious - we are clearly along way from normality in the US labour market. However things might change very quickly as the economy fully opens up this year.

Outside of US CPI the other main event of the week will be Thursday’s ECB meeting, where much attention will be on what sort of pace the Governing Council decides on for the bank’s PEPP purchases. Given the dovish tilt in the Council’s latest commentary, our economists expect the ECB to maintain the faster pace of PEPP purchases for the time being. However, they expect that after June the market focus will be on PEPP exit, as it is a pandemic policy and we expect exit to be confirmed in September or December. See here for their full note. There are no Fed governors set to speak this week as Saturday marked the start of their blackout period ahead of next week’s FOMC meeting. Pfizer vaccine ‘probably’ linked to heart inflammation, Israeli panel of experts concludes

Israeli health officials said Tuesday there is a likelihood of a connection between receiving a second dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine and the onset of myocarditis in young men aged 16-30.

June 7, 2021 (Children's Health Defense) – Israeli health officials found a probable link between the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID vaccine — which the country has relied on almost exclusively in its vaccination drive — and dozens of cases of heart inflammation in young men following the second dose, the Health Ministry said Tuesday.

After the ministry received reports of heart inflammation, including myocarditis, following recent COVID vaccination, a panel of experts was appointed to investigate the issue. The panel included public health experts specializing in epidemiology, members of the National Center for Disease Control and academics from the Tel Aviv University, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Haifa University.

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle that can lead to cardiac arrhythmia and death. According to researchers at the National Organization for Rare Disorders, myocarditis can result from infections, but “more commonly the myocarditis is a result of the body’s immune reaction to the initial heart damage.”

According to a study by Israeli health officials, there were 275 cases of myocarditis identified between December 2020 and May 2021, including 148 cases that occurred within a month after vaccination. Of those 148 cases, 27 occurred after the first dose and 121 after the second dose. About half of the cases involved people with previous medical conditions, Bloomberg reported.

Many of the cases were reported among men 16 to 30, and most often in 16- to 19-year-olds. Most of the patients were discharged from the hospital in less than four days, and 95% of the cases were considered mild.

“There is a likelihood of a connection between receiving a second dose of vaccine and the onset of myocarditis in young men aged 16-30,” the group of experts concluded. “The connection is stronger in young people aged 16-19 compared to other ages and it decreases as age increases.”

The new analysis “is very suggestive of a causal nature” between the vaccine and myocarditis, said Dror Mevorach, head of internal medicine at the Hadassah University Medical Center who was tasked with leading the panel. “I am convinced there is a relationship.”

“It does suggest that this is, at least statistically, a real phenomenon,” said Peter Liu, a cardiologist and chief scientific officer of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Douglas Diekema, a pediatrician and bioethicist at Seattle Children’s Hospital, said it’s important to investigate “even a hint of a signal.” However he cautioned that “while this report is suggestive … it requires validation in other populations by other investigators before we can be certain the link exists.”

In a statement, Pfizer said there is still no indication the cases are due to its vaccine. Myocarditis is often caused by viral infections, and COVID infections have been reported to cause the condition, the drugmaker said.

Pfizer’s partner, BioNTech, said more than 300 million doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered globally and the “benefit-risk profile” of the vaccine remains positive.

“A careful assessment of the reports is ongoing and it has not been concluded,” the company said. “Adverse events, including myocarditis and pericarditis, are being regularly and thoroughly reviewed by the companies as well as by regulatory authorities.”

The Israeli panel’s findings come as Israel and many European countries debate whether younger adolescents should be vaccinated against COVID. A decision to include the 12 to 15 age group in the country’s vaccination program has not yet been made.

According to the Health Ministry, a recommendation regarding the vaccination for children ages 12-15 will soon be formulated by the epidemiological team and will be communicated to the ministry’s director general.

Other countries, including the U.S. and Canada, began vaccinating children 12 and older in May. As The Defender reported, a group of more than 40 UK doctors last month in an open letter told Britain’s drug regulation agency that vaccinating children for COVID is “irresponsible, unethical and unnecessary.”

Coronavirus deaths are in surging on the Western Hemisphere, the side of the globe that comprises nearly 48.6% of the fatalities and five nations in the top 10 with the most fatalities despite only 12.7% of the world's population reported UPI.

Worldwide, the pandemic is diminishing with a weekly 12% decrease in deaths and 16% in cases. And COVID-19 is no longer as intensive in India as cases increased Sunday by 114,460 compared with a record 414,188 on May 8 and 2,6677 deaths, down from a record 4,529, also in May. India is third in the world for deaths at 346,759 and second in cases at 28,809,339.

So far Sunday, the pandemic has caused the deaths of 3,741,032 people, including 914,613 in South America and 902,371 in North America, according to Worldometers.info. The hemisphere had an increase of nearly 70 million, for 40.7% of the total 173,799,395.

In North America, the United States leads the world with 597,561 deaths, as well as 33,359,991 cases, according to Johns Hopkins tracking. Mexico is fourth in the world with 228,754 deaths and 2,432,280 cases, which is 15th.

Mounting Public Pushback Forces Public Health Authoritarians’ Retreat

Chalk up a victory vs. public health tyranny! In the face of massive public resistance, so-called ‘officials’ have retreated from their unscientific and misanthropic propaganda tactics.

Another round of record protests across in London (barely acknowledged in corporate media) has served as a bellwether for the surging distaste against several forms of public health Covid edicts.

After more than a year ignoring the data and science to lockdown the world, public health officials have begun reluctantly abandoning many of their heavy-handed tactics. Taking a “carrot and stick” approach, global populations have been continually beaten with a medical stick to force compliance. Yet few doing the ‘beating’ cared to look at history or do a simple cost-benefit analysis to examine the erroneous plan for their populations.

Continued analysis of the data behind lockdowns shows epic failures that have set society back in unimaginable ways. Forcing public health edicts illogically has forever weakened confidence in governmental and global health bodies.

Canadian economist Douglas W. Allen recently published an examination of over 80 Covid-19 studies, taking a critical look at the literature to assess the lockdown Cost vs. Benefits:

“There are about 45 stringency points from the least stringent country (Russia: 40.28) to the most stringent (Ireland: 84.26). Over this range, moving from the least to most stringent lockdown increases the cumulative deaths per million by 630 deaths. Contrary to the popular understanding, lockdown is not associated with fewer deaths per million, but more. “

Despite the false assertion by public health officials that the limited, available science pointed to lockdowns being the only solution, Allen refutes this, stating:

“By August there was enough information available to show that any reasonable cost/benefit analysis would show that lockdown was creating more harm than good. It is unreasonable to suggest that a proper decision could not have been made in the fall when the second wave of infections hit.”

The public is emboldened like never before to both return to normal and disobey public health officials pushing irrational, unscientific orders whose only roots stem from virtue signaling, political jockeying and/or petty power plays. It’s over. And would-be government employees refusing to see the writing on the wall will be voted out of office.

Established in April 2020 and composed by a group of multi-disciplinary professionals, the Pandemics Data & Analytics (or PANDA) organization understands this. PANDA stands for open science, rational debate about replacing flawed science, and for retrieving liberty and prosperity from the clutches of a dystopian “new normal”.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is facing down a scandal from several directions. First, internal emails revealed the agency relied upon politically motivated actors, rather than science, to craft its school reopening policy. Secondly, the agency’s mask guidance was peppered with confusion and questionable science.

Research examining mitigation practices and Covid-19 rates in Florida, New York and Massachusetts’ schools continued to drive home the CDC’s scientific misadventures. On Monday, Feb 22, 2021, The World Health Organization (WHO) announced a no-fault injury compensation program for COVID-19 vaccines. WHO has designated 92 low- and middle-income countries and economies eligible for support via the GAVI COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) of the COVAX Facility.

The COVAX Facility is co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi and the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations and alongside key delivery partner UNICEF. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.

Gavi, created in 2000 with start-up funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is an international organization — a global Vaccine Alliance, bringing together public and private sectors with the shared goal of creating equal access to new and underused vaccines for children living in the world’s poorest countries.

With this announcement, WHO is promoting this compensation program as the world’s first global program to provide for those who have suffered allegedly rare, serious adverse events associated with COVID-19 vaccines. In the COVAX announcement, it appears that the cutoff date, or statute of limitations to file a petition, is June 30, 2022.

Creating a compensation program is not a new process for the WHO or United Nations. After the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the United Nations created the UN Compensation Commission in 1991, evaluating nearly 2.7 million claims and issuing 1.5 million awards, totaling over $50 billion dollars.

As early as 2006, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations, the global pharmaceutical-industry lobbying group, publicly demanded that manufacturers be granted liability protection from vaccine-related adverse events if they were going to participate in pandemic response initiatives.

The world has attempted to control other epidemics through the use of vaccines to mitigate the spread of the disease. During the 2009 H1N1 outbreak, one specific vaccine used in the UK and Northern Europe caused an increase in narcolepsy, which resulted in substantial compensation claims.CONTINUE…

Second Alberta church moves underground after police, AHS lock Fairview Baptist Church

After months of ongoing harassment and surveillance by Alberta Health Services and Calgary police under the direction of UCP Health Minister Tyler Shandro, Pastor Tim Stephens was arrested in dramatic fashion on May 16.

He was released the same week, and contempt proceedings against him were dropped soon thereafter as a result of improper notification (the authorities had embarrassingly served a court order to the wrong man) and lack of clarity in the May 6 order issued by the ever-confounding Justice John Rooke.

This is the same order under which Pastor Artur Pawlowski and his brother Dawid were questionably imprisoned.

One day after dropping proceedings against Pastor Tim, authorities found him at home and this time they properly served notification of the order against him, although numerous lawyers have insisted the order does not apply to Pastor Tim regardless of proper notification.

The incident has been a legal mess, and it has brought international shame to Premier Jason Kenney, Shandro, AHS and the Calgary police.

Pastor Tim’s congregation at Fairview Baptist Church went so far as to go underground for worship, fearing further persecution. When they returned to their church last week in light of reduced restrictions, Calgary police and Alberta Health Services arrived once again and attempted to interrupt worship.

On the morning of Saturday, June 5, Alberta Health Services changed the locks at Fairview Baptist Church, physically barring Sunday worship services at the facility.

This is now the second church in Alberta to be locked up by Alberta Health Services in what can only be described as radical and unprecedented government overreach.

The great irony is that the very men who ordered the closure of the church had just been caught gathering for drinks atop the Sky Palace, violating the very restrictions they are so militantly enforcing against pastors. Government officials have made lacklustre attempts to excuse their conduct, but the optics are damning regardless of apologies. Pastor Tim pointed out the hypocrisy in a tweet:

By Sunday morning, Pastor Tim and his congregation had already found a new location for worship, and they gathered without interruption by authorities.

I was fortunate to attend this underground worship, though for fear of persecution we were asked not to film. The mood was joyful, despite the church being locked up, and the congregants prayed for those who had stolen their church from them by name. These peaceful warriors are immutable in their love of God.

Any government official who thinks they can dissuade these people from worship is waging an unwinnable war. Worship will continue, like clockwork.

“Digital vaccine card” in the works for Manitobans

Manitoba’s chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin stated in a press conference today that the province is working an COVID-19 vaccine “identifier” for individuals, but claims that “no decision has been made” on using these vaccine passports to bar unvaccinated people from services and events.

Referring to a “digital vaccine card”, Roussin went on to say that the utility of the identification is “yet to be determined”:

“There's a couple of things… there is a vaccine, a digital vaccine card, or identifier that's in the works, so Manitobans are going to have the availability to prove their vaccine status, how that's utilized within Manitoba, that's something yet to be determined. But we wanted to ensure that Manitobans had that ability to prove their vaccine status, just because we can't control what other jurisdictions do… so we wanted to ensure Manitobans had that ability.

When pressed on the issue, Roussin did not outright deny the possibility of using vaccine passports to limit services and events to only people with their COVID shots.

“If we get as many Manitobans vaccinated, fully vaccinated as soon as possible, then we don't necessarily have to concern ourselves with this type of vaccine passport idea,” stated the province's top doctor.

“Right now we're focused on the numbers that we have now, bringing them down, focused on getting as many Manitobans vaccinated as possible.”

“As far as the specifics of how we could utilize, or if we wanted to utilize an actual vaccine passport… that's still a bigger issue, and no decision has been made on that.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the Montreal Canadiens for the city's first vaccine passport event just under two weeks ago.

Nunavut dropping mandatory two week isolation for fully vaccinated travellers

Nunavut is modifying its usage of COVID-19 quarantine hotels to allow fully vaccinated travellers entry into the territory without spending two weeks in isolation.

Individuals are considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after their final dose of a government-approved vaccine. Once inside the territory, they are still expected to abide by local public health measures. Those who are travelling with someone who is non-vaccinated, including parents with an unvaccinated child, will still be required to spend two weeks inside a designated quarantine facility.

“Current evidence shows that fully vaccinated individuals are less likely to acquire and transmit the virus, and we are confident that removing the isolation requirements for this group represent a low risk for COVID-19 introduction in Nunavut,” the territory's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Michael Patterson said in a press release.

“In order to further mitigate the risks of introduction for the time being, those travelling with non-vaccinated individuals will still be required to isolate prior to entering the territory.”

The territory's shift in policy is scheduled to begin on June 14.

Since March 2020, Nunavut has required travellers — including those returning home from time in other parts of Canada, or those who are deemed non-essential workers — to spend two weeks isolating at hotels in Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton or Yellowknife before returning home.

Nunavut Premier Joe Savikataaq offered praise to the public for adhering to health measures, saying that “Nunavummiut have worked hard following all the public health measures, and the COVID vaccines have added enough protection to allow us to take this step.”

“I’m very happy that we are able to move into this next phase of living with COVID, and I encourage all eligible Nunavummiut to get their vaccine if they haven’t already,” the premier said.

Local outlet Nunatsiaq News reported that some constituents have levied criticism at Savikataaq's government, saying that these restrictions have “discouraged travel to the south, imposed hardship on people who needed to travel for medical treatment or other reasons, and made it difficult for workers from the south to go to Nunavut.”

As of Monday, the territorial government is reporting one active case and four total deaths linked to COVID-19 since the pandemic was declared. Data from May 31 shows that 69 per cent of the territory's adult population has received one dose of a vaccine, while 60 per cent have received a second.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has apologized after being caught hosting a white linen spread for coworkers, calling the meal at the Sky Palace a "working dinner."

Kenney, along with several cabinet ministers — including Health Minister Tyler Shandro — were caught on camera last week enjoying a meal on a rooftop patio at the Edmonton legislature.

“I just won't be doing any social gatherings until we get into Phase Three, just to avoid any possible mistakes or misunderstandings,” stated the premier during a live address earlier today.

“I thought it was prudent and compliant with the rules to do this outside. But it's clear that at some points in that evening, we were not all distanced from one another by two metres, and I truly regret that, i take full responsibility for this — I invited my colleagues there, I… was in the clear view that we were complying with the Open For Summer rules, but it is clear that some of us were not distanced the whole night, and I have to take responsibility for that.

“We have to set a higher example, a higher threshold of conduct, and so I want, sincerely to apologize to my colleagues and to Albertans for letting you down, for not being more careful, to scrupulously follow every aspect of the public health guidelines…”

Vaccine “validation” must be ironed out before Nova Scotia can demand COVID passports at border

Vaccinated travellers to Nova Scotia looking to skip the province's 14-day quarantine period might have to wait until a national COVID passport tracking system is implemented.

Vaccine passports — or “proof of vaccination,” as the province's top doctor put it — were addressed earlier today in a press conference chaired jointly by Liberal Premier Iain Rankin and chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang.

“We need [a process], one that we can trust, that actually proves that [they've] had one or two doses of vaccine” before visitors to the maritime province can forego the mandatory two week quarantine, said Strang:

“We're looking at that, the timing of that depends on our vaccine coverage here in the province, depends on our epidemiology, one of the critical factors that has to be part of that is… do we have a process in place that allows a validation, a proof of vaccination? We don't have that yet.

“We have a specific solution for rotational workers, but across the country there's still lots of work going on to provide this kind of validation of vaccination. And until we have that in place, it makes it challenging to be able to safely reduce restrictions on… people just because of their vaccination status.

“We need [a process], one that we can trust, that actually proves that [they've] had one or two doses of vaccine.”

…“We're looking at [them]… that's what we started with rotational workers. So we've set the template, it's just for broad, other streams of travellers if you will, then the broad public, we need work to be done to get… those solutions in place for proof of vaccination.”

When asked about how a vaccine passport system could work when no COVID vaccine is currently approved for use in children under 12, Strang said there no final decisions had been made.

“…there's national discussions around that, we're looking at that ourselves — how do you accommodate a family around that, when you have kids who couldn't, themselves, get immunized [because of their] age… we've made no final decisions, but what we're looking at is treating the whole family as a unit.

“As we get to that point, where we're actually going to open for that, we'll have much more clarity on that.”

Last week, Strang admitted that COVID-19 vaccines are “not 100 per cent effective,” and that even after receiving two doses, “some people may die.”

Pinecrest Nursing Home: COVID death docs reveal new questions

Pinecrest Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon, Ont. — the first long-term care home in the province to be hit with an outbreak of COVID-19 back on Friday, March 20, 2020 — was described as a “war zone” during this time.

Back in the fall of 2020, I had been tipped off that there was an outrageous amount of nursing home deaths with questionable causes. I tried to piece together what exactly happened in those cases, during the two and a half weeks that 29 of Pinecrest’s 65 residents died. I wondered: did they actually test positive for COVID-19?

The Globe and Mail reported on March 30, 2020 that “[o]nly three residents of Pinecrest were tested for COVID-19 because of a provincial policy — usually applied in flu outbreaks — that once the virus at the root of an outbreak has been identified, everyone who is symptomatic is presumed to have it.”

Between the COVID-19 outbreak and staff not showing up for their shifts, is it any wonder that Pinecrest residents continued to die every day until April 9, with seven deaths over one weekend alone?

I reached out to Pinecrest seeking clarification on ages and causes of death of those deceased during this time period of March 24 to April 9, 2020, when the outbreak suddenly ended.

Administrator Janelle Whalen responded:

During the outbreak at Pinecrest Nursing Home, our leadership team had daily conversations with Public Health, the Ministries of Health and of Long-Term Care and other health system partners. They received infection prevention and control support from Ross Memorial hospital.

I wanted to know what that communication entailed.

So we filed a Freedom of Information request with the Ministries Of Health and Long-Term Care requesting all of that communication.

After months of filibustering and clarifications, we finally received a response.

The government informed us “that no responsive records were located. A reasonable search of the Long-Term Care Operations Division was conducted, and no responsive records were found. Sheila Bristol, Assistant Deputy Minister, Long-Term Care Operations Division is responsible for this decision.

“The ministry conducted a search for a contracted agency at Pinecrest Nursing Home, no responsive records were identified. Additionally, the ministry has no records pertaining to any communication with the local public health unit; staffing; and information on causes of death of those who died. The ministry recommends that the requester reach out directly to the Pinecrest Nursing Home for staffing information.”

But how can that be? Janelle Whalen from Pinecrest told me communication happened daily. So we’re appealing Sheila Bristol’s decision.

After all, the Canadian military’s report confirms that many long-term care residents died from neglect, not COVID-19, in Ontario homes.

Could this be what happened at Pinecrest?

The country has been shaken by the apparent gruesome discovery of the remains of 215 children found buried at a former British Columbia residential school.

There is nothing more devastating than the death of a child, and nothing more painful for Canadians than reconciling some of the past horrors of the country’s residential school system and treatment of First Nations more broadly.

The idea that Canada’s official policy was once to remove children from their homes, sometimes forcibly, and send them to government schools is unfathomable and reprehensible.

As a mother and someone who leans libertarian on most issues – particularly when it comes to a parent’s right to raise and educate their own children – this chapter of our history is deeply upsetting.

Canadians almost universally agree that First Nations people were mistreated in the past and deserve reconciliation, and that much work is left to be done to achieve greater levels of freedom and opportunity for those in First Nations communities.

For that to happen though, we must make sure we pay attention to the full picture and full report of what has been found at Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, also known as the Kamloops Indian Band.

We currently have people in the media invoking the holocaust, saying the discovery equates to genocide, and treating these residential schools as if they were all some kind of a death camp.

But before we accept the very worst accusations against our country, let’s be sure to first look at all the facts.

This tragic story was first made public through a news release from the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc.

According to the band and its release, “this past weekend, with the help of a ground penetrating radar specialist, the stark truth of the preliminary findings came to light – the confirmation of the remains of 215 children who were students of the Kamloops Indian Residential School.”

The release goes on to say that the band “will continue to work with the ground penetrating radar specialist to complete the survey of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School grounds,” and that the band “expect(s) to complete preliminary findings by mid-June.”

In other words, the survey of the land is not complete – the full report has yet to be released.

An initial CBC report on the story also noted that “the release did not specify the company or individual involved, or how the work was completed.”

In her first public appearance since her bombshell news release, Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Kamloops First Nation confirmed that “this is not a mass grave. These are preliminary findings. We will be sharing the written report in the middle of the month.”

The National Post interviewed anthropology professor Kisha Supernant, from the University of Alberta, who is also the director of the Institute of Prairie and Indigenous Archeology, about the ground penetrating radar technology that was used.

“It doesn’t actually see bodies. It’s not like an X-ray,” explained Supernant. “What it actually does is it looks for the shaft.”

This suggests there are still more questions left to be answered. This also doesn’t tell us anything about the cause of death of those buried. Many people are saying this was murder, but it seems more evidence is required.

This school was in operation from 1890 to 1969 and at the beginning of that period the infant mortality rate in Canada was 27%. Nearly one in three children died before their fifth birthday because of communicable diseases, namely tuberculosis and influenza.

None of this is to say that the treatment of many aboriginal children in many schools in that time was not abhorrent. It was, and there are rightfully legitimate concerns and valid feelings of anger and regret over these latest findings.

But before politicians jump to enacting policy conclusions, we should wait for the official report to be released.

Statue of Egerton Ryerson toppled by protesters, won’t be replaced by university

A statue of Ryerson University namesake Egerton Ryerson was toppled by protesters over the weekend.

Video posted to social media shows the moments after the statue was torn down, with a small group of protesters surrounding it. The statue of Ryerson and the area around it were defaced.

University President Mohamed Lachemi said the incident occurred shortly after a large protest in front of the statue on Sunday. Lachemi says the university will not replace the statue.

“A truck arrived on Gould Street and proceeded to pull down the statue of Egerton Ryerson. We are relieved that no one was injured in the process,” he said.

“The statue will not be restored or replaced.”

Police are currently investigating the incident.

Ryerson is one of several historical figures that have been targeted in recent days after the apparent discovery of remains at a former residential school near Kamloops, British Columbia.

Egerton Ryerson was a Methodist minister and educator who was instrumental in the development of the education system in Ontario. In 1847, Ryerson founded the Toronto Normal School on the site where Ryerson University now stands.

Ryerson is largely responsible for the development of Upper Canada’s education system, having supported free education for children, school boards and standardized textbooks.

Despite his successes, Ryerson is often considered to be a key figure of the residential school system as he wrote in favour of the concept decades before it was implemented.

Ryerson’s legacy has been targeted more than once. In 2020, Black Lives Matter and other activists in Toronto tried to get Ryerson University to topple the statue and take it away from campus grounds.

Ryerson University’s School of Journalism recently decided to change the names of its two publications to remove references to Egerton Ryerson.

Similar attacks have also been made in recent weeks against historical figures like Sir John A. Macdonald, Hector-Louis Langevin and Queen Victoria.

Conservative MP slams “absentee” Bill Blair’s failure to address rural crime

Conservative MP Damien Kurek slammed the Liberal government’s failure to address rural crime in an op-ed on Thursday, accusing Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair of being an “absentee” on the issue.

In the op-ed titled “Fighting Rural Crime” which was published to the Hanna Herald, Kurek outlines Conservative efforts to curb rural crime including fellow Conservative MP Blaine Calkins’ Private Member’s Bill C-289.

“My Conservative colleagues and I have been working tirelessly to ensure greater resources for law enforcement to do their jobs, tougher laws to deter those would-be criminals, and reduce the number of recidivists on our streets. This contrasts with the Liberals’ approach to public safety,” claims Kurek.

According to Kurek, Liberal bills like the gun buyback program, Bill C-21 and the backdoor gun registry, Bill C-71, were “poorly crafted and misguided” attempts to address rural crime.

“Over the last number of years, we have seen a troubling increase in rural crime. The police-reported crime rate and the crime severity index have increased every year between 2015 and 2019 (the most recent year that data is available. Police-reported crime increases in 2019),” writes Kurek.

“This is evidence of a failed approach to rural crime and an absentee Public Safety Minister who refuses to admit there is a problem, even when given the opportunity to do so.”

In April, Calkins introduced Bill C-289 with the hope of altering the Canadian Criminal Code so that offenders targeting rural residents can be held more accountable in a court of law.

The law seeks to add as aggravating circumstance evidence that a crime was directed at somebody who was “vulnerable because of their remoteness from emergency services.” Additionally, it would take into consideration whether a weapon or an imitation of a weapon was used when the crime was committed.

“For many rural communities across Canada, crime has reached a crisis point. Rural Canadians too often do not feel safe in their own homes, many are victimized, often they have given up reporting property crime altogether and they cannot get affordable insurance, if they can get any insurance at all. My constituents are tired of being victims,” said Calkins when first introducing the bill.

Freeland caught putting on mask for photoshoot with world leaders

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was caught putting on a mask moments before an official photograph for the G7 finance ministers meeting was taken.

Of the twelve people in the official photo, Freeland was the only one wearing a mask. However, photos taken moments earlier show Freeland putting the mask on.

The photo was taken outdoors with distance between participants. Most, if not all, of the ministers had already been vaccinated for COVID-19.

True North reached out to Freeland for comment but did not receive a response by the time this article was published.

Just days earlier, Freeland was caught hastily putting on a mask during a virtual news conference.

In the video from CPAC, Freeland is seen putting on a generic medical mask for less than a minute before taking it off again to begin the press conference.

Freeland’s mask theatrics were mocked on Twitter.

Some users accused Freeland of ignoring the accepted science on COVID-19 for wearing a mask in an outdoor, socially-distanced environment. Other users accused Freeland of trying to deceive the public.

Freeland has accused Conservatives in the past of believing “conspiracy theories” and not following the science around COVID-19.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will go to the United Kingdom for the G7 summit later this week.

Pandemic could lead to more immigration fraud, human smuggling: CBSA report

A new Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) report is warning that the country could see an uptick in immigration fraud and human smuggling as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report warns that “all immigration streams” could be targeted by fraudsters hoping to cash in on the increased turbulence the pandemic has caused worldwide.

“With more people looking to immigrate, there is likely to be an increase in fraud in all immigration streams via the use of fraudulent supporting documentation to bolster visa or permanent resident applications, fraudulently acquired travel documents to be able to board flights to Canada and misrepresentation,” the June 2020 report claims.

“It is also likely that we may see more downstream immigration fraud once individuals are in Canada, such as an increase in workers without authorization, marriages of convenience, or the use of unscrupulous agents to assist individuals in regularizing their temporary status into permanent residence.”

According to CBSA spokesperson Judith Gadbois-St. Cyr, the study is the agency’s most recent assessment of Canada’s immigration system, however, currently asylum numbers are lower than they were before the pandemic began.

“At this time, asylum numbers remain lower than those experienced before COVID-19. The CBSA continues to assess these trends and the broader impacts of COVID-19 as it plans for a post pandemic environment,” Gadbois-St. Cyr told CBC News.

Global trends also indicate that migrants will “Increasingly use the services of smuggling networks and more dangerous pathways” to find their way into Canada.

“Migrants who have the means will likely engage the services of smuggling networks, likely resulting in the use of more fraudulent and counterfeit travel documents, increased targeting of visa-exempt travel documents, and the use of new transit points and clandestine routes to facilitate the movement of people to Canada,” the report claims.

A recent ruling by Canada’s Federal Court shone some light on a long-standing dispute over Canada’s Safe Third Country Agreement with the United States.

For some time, activists have been trying to overturn the agreement on the basis that the United States was not a safe country for migrants and refugees and therefore they should be allowed to claim asylum in Canada despite the agreement’s terms.

However, a panel of judges unanimously ruled that those asylum claimants who first arrive in the United States must claim refugee status in the country they arrived in.

Trudeau laments how Catholic Church doesn’t line up with his progressive views

On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lamented the fact that the Catholic Church’s positions don’t align with his and other Catholics’ progressive views.

Trudeau made the comments during the Ryerson Democracy Forum in response to a question by event moderator and journalist Martin Regg Cohn. Cohn who asked the prime minister to recount his 2017 encounter with Pope Francis regarding residential schools.

“I have to say as a Catholic, who, you know, is ever hopeful that the Catholic Church will come to terms with how for many Catholics our faith is really important to us but the distance we feel with the Church on many of its positions that don’t necessarily align with where we think we should be as a society, where we need to move forward,” said Trudeau.

“There’s always been a bit of a confliction for me as a person of faith with the Church but I continue to call myself a Catholic.”

True North reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office to seek clarification on which of the Catholic Church’s particular positions the prime minister feels a disconnect with but did not receive a response by the deadline.

Since the discovery of remains claimed to have been discovered at a former residential school near Kamloops, British Columbia, renewed interest has been paid to the Catholic Church’s historical involvement in the system. A preliminary report is expected to be delivered on the findings in mid-June.

Trudeau has made several claims about the Church’s responsibility since the First Nations government of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc first reported the find.

“As a Catholic, I am deeply disappointed by the decision that the Catholic Church has taken now and over the past many years,” Trudeau told reporters on Friday in a separate interview.

In response to Trudeau’s statement, Cardinal and Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto Thomas Collins called the prime minister’s statement “unfair.”

“I think it’s much more helpful, as we’re all working on this long journey of reconciliation to work together, and not to be making these kinds of unfair attacks upon those who are trying their best to bring about and to work with all the Indigenous people for reconciliation” Archbishop Collins said.

Creator of CDC COVID vaccine app dies two months after taking jab. Company mourns his passing ‘from Covid-19’

Joel Robert Kallman is one of thousands of cases of 'breakthrough' COVID infection – if that is indeed what he died of, and not complications of the vaccine itself – in people who have received a COVID vaccine.

June 7, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The creator of a COVID-19 vaccine app used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has died two months after taking a COVID vaccine.

Joel Robert Kallman of Delaware, Ohio, died on May 25, after tweeting a message March 26 that he had received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Two days after his death his employer announced that he had “passed away from Covid-19.”

The 54-year-old husband and father, best known in the technology field as the creator and vision behind Oracle APEX, a web-based software development platform, tweeted his last message on March 29, three days after getting the shot.

“I got my first vaccination today,” Kallman tweeted on March 26. “I am incredibly proud of @Oracle and the team that worked tirelessly to create and run v-safe for the USA.”

“V-safe” is a smartphone-based tool developed by Oracle APEX that uses text messaging and web surveys to provide personalized health check-ins after people receive a COVID-19 vaccine. It was adopted by the CDC so that users could inform the agency of side effects after getting a coronavirus vaccine and to remind them to get a second dose of vaccine.

After his tweet announcing having received a COVID vaccine shot, Kallman tweeted five more times in the following three days and then abruptly stopped posting messages altogether after his last post about a tech conference on March 29. He had been in the habit of tweeting at least once daily.

“We're heartbroken to share that Joel Kallman has passed away from Covid-19 on May 25th,” Oracle APEX company tweeted May 27. “Joel's warmth and enthusiasm touched countless across the globe. We miss him dearly.”

No description of Kallman’s condition between his vaccine and his death was provided by his company or his obituary, which asked that donations be given in lieu of flowers to the National Right to Life Committee.

‘Every person has infinite value’

Kallman had raised money for cancer research by annually biking 200 miles in a fundraiser and giving generously to cancer research drives. He was described by employees and friends as “so kind,” an “amazing mentor,” and a person “who helped people feel like they mattered.”

In a video chat to APEX personnel, Kallman had said “the purpose of my life [is] to elevate and serve others.”

“Those who know me personally know that I have an unwavering faith in God. It’s what defines me as a person. And I don’t try to conceal that fact and I attempt to live my faith. And I fail in so many ways every day, miserably, but I still try to live it,” Kallman said. “And it’s with my faith that I view every person as having infinite value. Those among us, those we don’t know – infinite value.”

“You don’t have to do something big or global to have a big impact on someone’s life,” Kallman told his employees.

OTTAWA, Ontario, June 7, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Political debate regarding the Canadian government’s controversial internet regulation Bill C-10 will now be restricted to only five more hours after a motion to limit debate on the bill at committee gained enough support to pass in the House of Commons this morning.

Last Thursday, the Liberal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau introduced a motion to limit debate of Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault’s Bill C-10, or “Act to amend the Broadcasting Act.” The motion came about because Guilbeault claimed opposition filibustering from Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) MPs at committee hearings of the bill were a form of “obstruction.”

“It will finally put an end to six weeks of systematic obstruction of the bill by the Conservative Party,” said Guilbeault.

The motion passed in a 181-147 vote with the support of the Bloc Québécois. Voting against the gag order were CPC, NDP, and Green MPs.

The motion of the text reads that in relation to “Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts,” no more than “five further hours shall be allotted to the consideration of the committee stage of the bill.”

“That, at the expiry of the time provided for the committee stage, any proceedings before the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage on the said bill shall be interrupted, if required for the purpose of this order, and, in turn, every question necessary for the disposal of the said stage of the bill shall be put forthwith and successively, without further debate or amendment,” reads the motion sponsored by Liberal MP Mona Fortier.

Bill C-10 would force companies such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook to remove content deemed “harmful” within 24 hours. In essence, it would let the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) regulate the internet and social media in line with their regulations for broadcasting services.

The CRTC is the federal body tasked with regulating TV and radio in Canada, but has had to keep a hands-off approach to regulating the internet.

According to Dr. Michael Geist, law professor at University of Ottawa and Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law, placing a “gag order” on a debate of a Bill at a committee hearing is not something that has been used in a long time.

“As expected, the Bill C-10 gag order passes 181-147 with Liberal and Bloc support. Committee limited to 5 more hours. Many potential amendments will not be considered. This process to shut down committee work hasn’t been used in 20 years and never for this short period of time,” tweeted Geist.

CPC MP Rachael Harder blasted Guilbeault last week for trying to prevent MPs from voicing their concerns about the bill at committee hearings of the bill.

“How low can you go, that’s the name of the game when it comes to free speech with this government and it’s attack, time, and time and time again,” said Harder.

“What this government is doing now is nothing less than a gag order. Censoring the voices of creators wasn’t enough. Now, they’re having to stop members of parliament from debating this atrocious bill at committee,” she continued.

As a retort to Harder’s comments, Guilbeault said that without placing limits on debates it would take “months” for the bill to be debated.

Harder said that the Liberal government is so “determined to rush it though” that they are going as far to “silence” our “voices” by shutting down debate on Bill C-10: “Now, the government doesn’t want any more problems to be discovered with their bill, which is plagued with them by the way, and so now they’re shutting us down. Why?”

‘Kim’s Convenience’ Star Simu Liu Airs Grievances with ‘Overwhelmingly White’ Writers, Producers

One of the stars of the popular sitcom Kim’s Convenience is accusing producers of failing to respect the show’s Asian actors, claiming the “overwhelmingly white” staff of writers and producers failed to give full dimension to the principal cast.

Actor Simu Liu claimed the show’s Asian stars were paid a “horsepoop rate” throughout its five-season run. He also expressed mixed emotions about the show’s only white principal character getting a spin-off series. His comments follow recent news that Kim’s Convenience won’t be returning in 2022. (The show airs on the CBC in Canada and streams on Netflix in the U.S.)

“I’m feeling a host of emotions right now,” Liu wrote on Facebook. “There’s been a lot of talk and speculation about what happened, and I want to do my best to give accurate information.”

He said the Kim’s Convenience cast was paid “an absolute horsepoop rate” compared to other hit Canadian sitcoms, like Schitt’s Creek.

“Basically we were locked in for the foreseeable future at a super-low rate… an absolute DREAM if you are a producer,” he wrote.

“But we also never banded together and demanded more — probably because we were told to be grateful to even be there, and because we were so scared to rock the boat. Maybe also because we were too busy infighting to understand that we were deliberately being pitted against each other.”

Liu also claimed the show lacked Asian “representation” in the writers’ room. As a result, he wrote, they “missed opportunities to show Asian characters with real depth and the ability to grow and evolve.”

He also dissed playwright Ins Choi, whose stage play inspired the sitcom. “[He] left no protege, no padawan learner, no Korean talent that could have replaced him,” the actor wrote.

Liu said he has mixed feelings about co-star Nicole Power, who is white, receiving a spin-off show.

“It’s been difficult for me,” Liu wrote. “I love and am proud of Nicole, and I want the show to succeed for her… but I remain resentful of all of the circumstances that led to the one non-Asian character getting her own show.”

“And not that they would ever ask, but I will adamantly refuse to reprise my role in any capacity.”

Simu Liu stars in Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is set for release in September.
