"Mass grave" Ask the old people in your family or read through old family histories about child mortality in the period covered by this school. My great grandparents on both sides lost young children & while reading through family accounts I saw that one family lost all 6 of their children. (It didn't say if they died in the same year, but this was implied.)
This is not to discount the abuse that happened in residential schools. White children also attended Catholic run schools/orphanages and I have heard first hand reports from family members, some now deceased, who were traumatized in these institutions.
