Thanks.

Duped Subcontractor Gambit?

Can't vouch for translation, but if accurate, the CCP is trying to shame U.S. critics here. Hinting, in effect, "If you dig into our military's role in all this, we'll expose your own. Remember Unit 731? Maybe we know about something more... recent."

This could lay the groundwork for a defense:

  1. Accuse the U.S. of using viral gain-of-function research as a cover for continued biological warfare weapon research.

  1. Claim status of duped subcontractor, not properly informed of the risks of their U.S.-funded gain-of-function studies at Wuhan. As the Daily Caller put it, "the sub-agency that awarded grants did not alert the review board."

  1. So CCP/Wuhan might claim they were not alerted either, and therefore couldn't appreciate the true true risk of their U.S.-funded work, much less the supposed / insinuated U.S. biowarfare ambitions behind it all.

I think it's not inconceivable that they'd try such a "duped subcontractor gambit", with much shaming of U.S. critics. So long as they can keep their own secrets secret, the press could be expected to run with the gambit.

Tangled web, wilderness of mirrors. Where will the buck stop?
