Ahead of 16 June Meeting With Putin, Biden Says US 'Must Lead the World From Position of Strength'

The June trip to Europe will mark the first foreign travel of Joe Biden's presidency, as he is scheduled to meet with the leaders of NATO, the EU and G7, ending the visit with a summit with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in Geneva on 16 June.

In a Saturday op-ed for The Washington Post, US President Joe Biden reflected on his upcoming European trip and meeting with Vladimir Putin, elaborating on his planned agenda and particularly noting that he believes the United States "must lead the world from a position of strength".

"In this moment of global uncertainty, as the world still grapples with a once-in-a-century pandemic, this trip is about realizing America’s renewed commitment to our allies and partners, and demonstrating the capacity of democracies to both meet the challenges and deter the threats of this new age", Biden writes. "Whether it is ending the covid-19 pandemic everywhere, meeting the demands of an accelerating climate crisis, or confronting the harmful activities of the governments of China and Russia, the United States must lead the world from a position of strength."

He also said that Washington and its allies are "standing united to address Russia’s challenges to European security" and pledging "meaningful consequences for behaviors that violate US sovereignty, including interference in our democratic elections."

However, according to Biden, the United States "does not seek conflict", as the president reiterated his desire to have a "stable and predictable" relationship where Washington and Moscow can co-operate in some areas, like "strategic stability and arms control."

In his op-ed, POTUS 46 also focused on how, in his belief, it is necessary to ensure that "market democracies, not China or anyone else" will "write the 21st-century rules around trade and technology".

The Lab-Leak Theory Is a Reckoning For the Legacy Media

The concept of policing “misinformation” has always been fraught with overtones of Big Brother and tyranny. And yet, Democrats and their allies have been pushing companies like Facebook and Twitter to ban speech they label “misinformation” that is really just disagreement with the dominant narrative that passes for “truth” these days.

There is always room for debate or discussion. Even if something is self-evidently false, should it be shut down and labeled misinformation? Liberals and social media companies think it should be.

The risk is great as we’ve all discovered with the evolution of the lab-leak theory from “misinformation” to a subject worthy of debate. Where do PJ Media and other conservative news sites go to recover lost income from spurious claims that our content contained misinformation?

If we’ve reached the point where the people cannot decide for themselves if something is worthy of discussion or so far out of bounds the subject must be ignored, then the republic is already dead and doesn’t realize it.

Reason‘s Robby Soave:

But many lab-leak foes had not merely called the theory unproven. They had lobbied for the theory’s adherents to be effectively silenced. They asserted that anyone discussing it was a conspiracy theorist or even a racist. Indeed, some are still discouraging this conversation.

“I & other AAPIs are increasingly concerned that speculation over the lab leak theory will increase anti-Asian hate,” tweeted Leana Wen, a professor of public health and CNN medical analyst, earlier this week. “As we embark on a full scientific investigation, we must take actions to prevent the next escalation of anti-Asian racism.”

Are we now to limit or eliminate discussion on issues because they might offend someone? These are not only issues of science, but of public policy as well. And bringing race into the debate is not helpful.

Yet it’s clear that a certain segment of lab-leak critics believed two things: 1) the theory would fan the flames of racism, and 2) for that reason, it should be proactively censored. Such is the slipperiness of the misinformation label, which has come to include all sorts of claims that are not straightforwardly false.

How about the Hunter Biden laptop story that was eagerly suppressed by both Facebook and Twitter, labeling those linking or writing about the laptop with the misinformation moniker? Some of that story, at least, has been shown to be absolutely true. And while the provenance of the laptop may raise unrelated questions, no one is denying the emails may be authentic.

How does social media appear to be marching in lockstep with mainstream media when it comes to deciding which stories to boost and which to suppress?

Big Tech takes its cues from the mainstream media, making decisions about which articles to boost or suppress based on the prevailing wisdom coming from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and elite media fact-checkers.

UFO Reports Are Fertilizer For Military Budgets

Since December 2019 the United States has a Space Force as one of eight branches of U.S. Armed Forces. Each of those branches has lots of higher ranking officer positions. All people who are put into those want a lucrative board seat at some weapon manufacturer when they retire. They will only get one if they manage to create enough revenue for those manufacturers while they are still in uniform.

The new command therefore needs new weapons. Otherwise there will be no revenue for the weapon manufacturers and no lucrative board seats for retired officers. But spending tax dollars on weapons requires at least some nominal justification. There needs to be a threat that requires new weapons to counter it.

Thus we are presented with an onslaught of UFO rumors and silly grainy videos:

The idea of UFOs has gone mainstream. The dam broke with a New York Times story about a year ago on three declassified Navy videos. Last weekend, 60 Minutes did its own report, and The New Yorker has a nice long writeup of the history of the debate within the American government.

The sightings involve objects that seem to defy the laws of physics.

It’s the “physics-defying” aspects of UFOs that imply an advanced alien civilization. Although some suggest that Chinese or Russian drones could be behind what people are seeing, the idea of those nations being that far ahead of the United States can probably be dismissed.

From believing in alien UFOs to making laughable stupid claims is just a short step:

Josh Rogin @joshrogin - 2:23 PM · Jun 4, 2021

There are two theories about the UFO’s. One is they are from another planet, one is that they are from another dimension. In other words, it could be humans from the future, not an alien species.
