Not only in India, but Africa too. In many places Polio had already been eradicated before Gates showed up.
On a personal note, 20 years ago anon was a member of the local Rotary, and the Rotary Club primary mission at that time was eradication of Polio. We had monthly tracking of cases and countries, with the goal of making the world Polio free. This was back when I was a little more naive.
Anyway, it looks like Gates is on a mission to reverse the trend.
