Notable Team leaders:
Heisenberg's Research Institutes
Teams involved with the Uranium project were determined by their respective specialist expertise. This usually centred on civil institutes which either focused on disciplines of Chemistry, or Physics.
Usually each Urenverin team would then tackle one or more aspects of developing nuclear weapons as a project in loose co-operation with other teams. This could involve projects for enrichment of Uranium, production of Heavy Water, developing nuclear reactors, production of Plutonium, theoretical research, or weapon fabrication and testing. There was even a Kreigsmarine team at Stettin proposing to develop a nuclear propelled version of the Type XXI U-boat.
Allegiances of these teams also fell into two broad camps. Civilian team allied with KWG and Heisenberg, or teams aligned with military HWA. There was often unnecessary duplication of efforts by teams with limited awareness of each other's efforts.
During 1942 Reichs Armaments Minister Albert Speer wrestled control of the Kaiser Wilhem Gessellschaft back from the Heereswaffenamt and realigned it's priorities towards more civil applications of nuclear energy. Gradually the millitary and in particular the SS eventually took back control of the KWG, however in the meantime the HWA developed it's own priorities.
