Long hauler here. Severe arthritis in knees and hip. Doctors tell me all need replacing as they are bone to bone. I had knee surgery 2 years before covid to repair torn meniscus so I have imaging prior to covid. Was walking 7miles per day before covid. Neuro symptoms started about 6 months ago. 1 year since positive. Your theory tracks as all support for the covid infected has dissolved.

You also bring up HIV. In an hourlong french roundtable interview, Luc Montagnier, stated that segments of HIV were found in the covid sample they sequenced. He also stated it was the exact same sequence he had given to Ft. Dix (mem could be wrong on base) when sending out samples of HIV when he discovered it. THE SAME SEGMENT FOLKS.
Researchers have also found segments of Neandertal DNA as well. For me personally, these mRNA segments upon replication when shedding can kick of biological processes like osteoblasts and osteoclasts which build and remove bone. In my case, the recent bone growth in both knees supports a anecdotal hypothesis that these Neandertal segments activated my euro-based Neanderthal DNA and caused bone growth in an attempt to "repair" me back to the original DNA code. I know also carry/hold weight differently post covid. Whereas, before weight was distributed equally but not resides mainly in the high anterior thoracic cage region. Just weirdness.
Lots of studies need to be done and most of the tech to do these studies is kept secret at universities and companies worldwide - in line waiting for recognition, ROI or profit.
