There's a meme going around talking about how we've been taken over by hostile force who wants to humiliate us. Thinking about it nothing would be more humiliating to Christians and Right Wingers than to create a fake populist movement, say it's all for God and Jesus, and then not deliver. It would make all true believers look foolish in front of the world. It would make it much harder to Evangelize successfully to non-believers. Doesn't mean it's what they did, just that it would be their kind of evil to pull something like that.
