Hermes is not necessarily the same point, just because both are connected with the planet Mercury.
Hermes is the messenger, fast circling the sun. Saturn has different aspects too, some evil and some good. Just because you and others have a positive sense of Hermes, this doesn't change the symbology of the alchemists and what that means to them.

Don't forget, the sciences of symbology may not be one picture of truth. Crowley knew some stuff about symbology. Or perhaps the process of defining the symbols has some effect on them. Perhaps they take the good science and twist it to their own ends. Perhaps the tarot and the alchemical symbols are such examples. Discussing such symbols is not to admit their truth, but they "knew things" and the question is how they knew things, and what forces are giving them this information
