Obama: Worrisome Republicans ‘Cowed’ to Neo-Nazi-Praising Trump by Assaulting Voting

Former President Barack Obama said Monday during an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper that it is cause for concern that the Republican Party “cowed” to former President Donald Trump’s claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election by passing restrictive voting laws.

Obama said, “I think we have to worry when one of our major political parties is willing to embrace a way of thinking about our democracy that would be unrecognizable and unacceptable even five years ago or a decade ago. When you look at some of the laws that are being passed at the state legislative level where legislators are basically saying we are going to take away the certification of election process from civil servants, secretary of states, people who are just counting ballots, partisan legislatures who may or may not decide a states electoral votes should go to one person or another. And when that’s all done against the backdrop of large numbers of Republicans having been convinced wrongly that there was something fishy about the last election, we’ve got a problem.”

He continued, “I thought that there were enough guardrails institutionally that even after Trump was elected that you would have the so-called Republican establishment who would say okay, you know, it’s a problem if the White House isn’t — doesn’t seem to be concerned about Russian meddling, or it’s a problem if we have a president who is saying neo-Nazis are marching in Charlottesville, there are good people on both sides.”

Obama added, “The degree to which we did not see that Republican establishment say hold on, time out, that’s not acceptable. That’s not who we are but rather be cowed into accepting and then finally culminating on January 6 where what originally was ‘Oh, don’t worry, this isn’t going in where. We’re just letting Trump and others vent.’, Then suddenly you now have large portions of an elected Congress going along with the falsehood.”

He concluded, “I didn’t expect that there would be so few people who say well, well I don’t mind losing my office because this is too important. America is too important.”

Response to Fauci's Emails Proves Everything is Fake, Narrative Management Trumps Reality, and Those in Power Want it That Way

Watching the media coverage – or lack thereof – of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails and what they mean for the origin of the coronavirus, one is struck by how relentlessly fake everything is, from public health experts to science.

One of the things the emails suggest is that Fauci colluded with Peter Daszak – head of the EcoHealth Alliance, which channeled US research funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology – to suppress and dismiss any notion that the virus causing Covid-19 may not have evolved naturally.

Thing is, Daszak actually went around giving interviews about his work in China throughout last year, and nobody in the media thought to connect the dots. Simply put, Donald Trump said the virus came from China and might have come from a lab, therefore that had to be wrong and racist, end of story, case closed.

That’s just one, most recent and most acute example of Narrative trumping reality at all cost. Millions of deaths, widespread destruction of the economy, tectonic changes in society itself? Small price to pay for “progress” and ensuring the “correct” outcome of the 2020 election, the fortifiers of Our Democracy might say, without anyone batting an eye. “Build back better!” the press parrots instead.

Trump disagreeing with CNN is a mortal threat to democracy and free speech, but Biden telling a reporter he’d rather run her over with an electric truck than answer a question about the war currently going on in Israel is a funny joke, haha, how hilarious. What flavor of ice cream did you order, sir?

This may seem partisan at first blush, but let’s remember this is the same media that once proudly carried water for the narrative about “Saddam’s WMDs.” So the old Democrat-vs-Republican dichotomy doesn’t really work here, and misses the bigger picture to boot.

A truly free society would have no official narratives, Australian columnist Caitlin Johnstone wrote earlier this week. Thing is, modern societies are not free, and official narratives are all they really have. Where would Joe Biden’s legitimacy be without the January 6 Capitol “insurrection” narrative?

Newton sex offender now facing child pornography charges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A registered sex offender is facing new crimes related to child pornography.

Jason Dewayne Cuthbertson, a Newton resident, has been arrested and charged with second degree sexual exploitation of a minor and third degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

These arrests stem from an investigation by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division in partnership the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. This investigation led to the discovery of Cuthbertson’s possession of multiple images of child pornography.

“We closely monitor all registered sex offenders living in Catawba County. We are working hard with our partnering agencies and the ICAC taskforce to bring those that seek to exploit children to justice,” said Sheriff Don Brown.

Cuthbertson was initially charged with indecent liberties with a minor related to a then-13-year-old while he was 24. He was convicted in 2018 and released in 2019.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Homeland Security Investigations North Carolina Probation and Parole, along with local agencies representing the area Internet Crimes Against Children task force assisted in this investigation.

Cuthbertson received a $10,000 secured bond.

Operation nets multiple arrests for online solicitation of a minor

Multiple law enforcement agencies took part in an operation Friday that led to the arrest of four individuals for online solicitation of a minor.

A news release states, "On Friday, June, 4, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Special Agents along with the Randall County District Attorney’s Office, Amarillo Police Department, Randall County Sheriff’s Office, Potter County Sheriff’s Office, United States Marshals Service, and Homeland Security Investigations, arrested four suspects as a result of a joint online operation. The suspects were arrested when they arrived at an undisclosed location after soliciting sex online with investigators posing as minors."

The individuals arrested during the operation and their charges include:

• Trase William Whitten, 20, of Amarillo – online solicitation of a minor

• Robert Michael Kelley, 43, of Amarillo – online solicitation of a minor

• Javier Villegas, 49, of Amarillo – online solicitation of a minor

• John Wayne Clausen II, 33, of Amarillo – online solicitation of a minor and possession or promotion of child pornography.

Whitten, Kelley and Villegas were booked into the Randall County Jail, and Clausen II was booked into the Potter County Jail.

According to the release, "solicitation of a minor – sexual conduct involves a defendant asking or engaging in a conversation with a minor and during the course of that conversation, the defendant asks (or solicits) the minor to meet them for the purpose of engaging in a sexual act. Online solicitation of a minor under Texas Penal Code Section 33.021 is a felony of the second degree. Second-degree felonies are punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine."

Mother in court for allegedly forcing daughter, 11, to have sex with two men for money

The Eastern Cape mother is accused of arranging for her then 11-year-old daughter and her boyfriend's 14-year-old niece to sleep with adult men for sex.

It is alleged that these offences happened between February 2019 until March 2021.

The incidents came to light after the 11-year-old asked her friends to accompany her to a man she would have sex with in exchange for money.

The case against an Eastern Cape mother, who allegedly made her daughter and her boyfriend's underage niece have sex with two Bangladesh nationals in exchange for money, has been postponed.

The 42-year-old woman from Keiskammahoek and the men Tanvir Tirru Rahman, 34, and Roime Raju Mohammed, 36, appeared at the Keiskammahoek Magistrate's Court on Monday.

They were meant to apply for bail, but the case was postponed to 11 June 2021. The bail application was postponed at the request of their lawyers, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Monday.

The 42-year-old has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor while the two men were charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and rape.

Mohammed works as a welder while Rahman is a sales assistant at a local shop, said the NPA.

It is alleged that these offences happened between February 2019, when the children were 11 and 14 years, respectively, until March 2021.

The crimes came to light after the 11-year-old, who has Down Syndrome, asked her friends to accompany her to a man she would have sex with in exchange for money, said NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani.

She promised to buy them sweets once she got the money, said the NPA.

The mother would allegedly receive R400 in exchange for the sexual encounters.

It is alleged that the mother would use the money to buy alcohol and drugs for herself and her boyfriend.

Rachakonda cops rescue 102 victims of trafficking

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Anti-Human Trafficking Unit has cracked 30 complicated cases from January till May and rescued 102 victims in the process. The unit also nabbed 81 human traffickers, including sex buyers or customers, of whom 28 have been detained under the Preventive Detention Act, officials said.

“All of them were complicated cases and had commercial sexual exploitation and labour exploitation. The AHTU team did tactical operations and busted those rackets apart from following up cases until they are charge-sheeted in court,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.

According to officials, 55 persons were arrested on charges of human trafficking for sex, of which 17 were women. Police also caught 18 sex buyers or customers while the age profile of the traffickers was found to range between 25-50 years. Apart from this, AHTU also caught 26 persons on charges of human trafficking for labour. These included 25 company owners and one transporter.

“The rescues were possible only through day and night efforts, coupled with intelligence gathering,” Bhagwat said. Of those rescued from sex trafficking, the victims were from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal and Uganda and one girl was a minor.

The AHTU also rescued 71 children, including 16 girls from child labour working in hazardous industries during the last few months. They were from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar. Officials pointed out that many traffickers were operating flesh trade through classifieds websites like Locanto. “The AHTU focused on the websites and has been conducting decoy operations to rescue victims and arrest traffickers including some from Uganda,” the Commissioner said.

Atlantis father and son, alleged to have sexually abused sisters, granted bail

Cape Town - A father and son from Atlantis, a small town off the West Coast in Cape Town, have been granted bail in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The 56-year-old father and his 23-year-old son appeared on charges relating to sexual abuse, rape and sexual grooming of minors for sexual abuse.

The pair were granted bail of R2 000 each, with stringent conditions.

The court ordered the pair to stay away from any family gatherings, they are to report to the Atlantis police station every Saturday, and they have had to hand in their passports and cellphones.

The victims are related to the two accused.

The two men were arrested during the early hours on Friday morning at their residence in Protea Park.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit conducted the arrests.

He said this followed after the father and son allegedly abused two sisters over a number of years.

“The victims, who are now 16 and 19 years old respectively, have been abused by the suspects from the age of seven and 10, respectively,” Traut said.

He said the information pertaining to the abuse came to light after one of the victims allegedly tried to commit suicide.

Speaking to African News Agency (ANA), Janine Passenz from the Survivors Haven Foundation, a local organisation which advocates against gender-based violence (GBV), said she was appalled at the court’s decision to grant the two accused men bail.

“There are a lot more of these types of crimes happening in our communities. Victims never had the guts to step forward.

“I'm not happy when sex offenders gets released on bail. It's like a step backwards for our victims that had the guts to report these crimes.

“I want to ask perpetrators to stop destroying the lives of young girls and women. Victims should not suffer in silence,” Passenz said.

She has urged victims to reach out to the foundation for assistance.

Passenz also urged parents to take note of their children’s behavioural patterns and not take things lightly when they see a change.

The case against the father and son has been postponed until August 5, 2021.

Nevada bans GRASS to battle drought, outlaws 31% of Las Vegas turf as ‘non-functional’

The governor of Nevada has signed legislation banning “non-functional” grass in a bid to conserve water as an extreme drought hits more than two-thirds of the state, drying up its major H2O supply.

Signed by Governor Steve Sisolak late last week, the legislation focuses on Nevada’s more populated southern region, giving the state the odd distinction of the first to pass a permanent ban on any type of grass. Other localities have enacted similar prohibitions, but none indefinitely.

“It’s incumbent upon us for the next generation to be more conscious of conservation and our natural resources – water being particularly important,” the governor said, adding that a visible “bathtub ring” around Lake Mead, revealing its diminishing water level, only underscores the need to save on the wet stuff.

The new law will make more than 30% of the grass in the greater Las Vegas area illegal when it takes effect, according to the Associated Press, deeming it “non-functional turf” that requires too much water to maintain, much of it drawn from the Colorado River.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) estimated the move will save the region some 9.5 billion gallons of water each year, also noting the law exempts single-family homes.

The measure will not come into force until 2027, however, giving residents some time to plan ahead. Once it does, the SNWA will identify any useless turf within its service area and dispatch removal teams to tear it out.

Some 76% of Nevada is currently under an “extreme drought,” while more than 94% qualifies for a “severe drought,” depleting lakes and rivers across the state. The Colorado River, a major water source for some 40 million people across several states, is chief among the government’s concerns, with water officials hoping to conserve 11 gallons per person each day from the river, in a region with a population some 2.3 million strong.

Lake Mead, which straddles the border between Nevada and Arizona and is fed by the Colorado River, has also seen a major fall in its water levels. It currently sits at just 37% capacity, with former SNWA head Pat Mulroy saying it looks “like a different world” compared to years prior.
