Hackers Expose 8.4 Billion Passwords Post them Online in Possibly Largest Dump of Passwords Ever

Hackers released data on 8.4 billion passwords this week and posted the information online. This might be the largest dump of passwords online ever.

Surprisingly, this is not making many headlines in the mainstream media.

Shortly before Apple CEO Tim Cook took the virtual stage at the iPhone maker’s Apple Park headquarters campus for WWDC 2021 on Monday — at which the company unveiled a ton of new software updates, including some major new privacy enhancements — an email landed in my inbox underscoring how critical those privacy features are going to be once they roll out with iOS 15. Basically, there’s been another huge data leak, this time exposing several billion passwords in what just might be the biggest dump of passwords online ever.

This news comes via the team at CyberNews, which reports that a 100GB text file containing a staggering 8.4 billion password entries was just leaked on a popular hacker forum. This data set presumably combines passwords stolen via previous data breaches and leaks, and it’s been dubbed the “RockYou2020” password leak on that hacker forum. That name was apparently chosen, per CyberNews, as a nod to the RockYou data breach from back in 2009, “when threat actors hacked their way into the social app website’s servers and got their hands on more than 32 million user passwords stored in plain text.”

If you’re reading these words, suffice it to say you probably need to change your passwords. Today, even. That’s because this new password leak is comparable in scale to the so-called “Compilation of Many Breaches,” or COMB, that we wrote about earlier this year. That previous compilation was essentially a giant database of more than 3.2 billion email-and-password pairings based on existing data that had been stolen as part of previous breaches and leaks from companies like Netflix and LinkedIn.

This new leaked password dataset, of course, is more than double that previous collection. And when you stop and consider that there are more than 7 billion people in the world, this means that there’s a strong likelihood that one of your myriad passwords is very likely caught up in this leak. CyberNews is recommending that anyone who wants to check and see if their passwords are included in this dataset should visit the CyberNews personal data leak checker or the leaked password checker, where password entries from the RockYou2021 compilation are being uploaded.

“By combining 8.4 billion unique password variations with other breach compilations that include usernames and email addresses, threat actors can use the RockYou2021 collection to mount password dictionary and password spraying attacks against untold numbers of online accounts,” CyberNews notes.

60 House offices from both sides of the aisle were hit with a ransomware attack.

Online vendor, iConstituent, has been compromised by a ransomware attack, NBC News reported.

According to spokesman for the House chief administrative, David O’Boyle, the hacker attack has not had any impact on House data.

NBC News reported:

An online vendor that provides constituent services for House offices has been compromised by a ransomware attack, NBC News confirmed Tuesday morning.

The vendor told O’Boyle’s office that “their e-newsletter system was hit with a ransomware attack,” he said, noting that the system is an external service available for House offices to buy.

“At this time, the CAO is not aware of any impact to House data,” O’Boyle said. “The CAO is coordinating with the impacted offices supported by iConstituent and has taken measures to ensure that the attack does not affect the House network and offices’ data.”

The largest ferry service to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket was hit with a ransomware attack last Wednesday.

A hacking group with links to the Chinese government penetrated the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s computer systems in April.

In the last month, ransomware hackers have targeted the Colonial Pipeline and the world’s largest meat supplier.

A few weeks ago ransomware hackers shut down the Colonial Pipeline, creating gas lines and shortages in Southeastern states.

JBS, the world’s largest beef supplier was hit with a ransomware attack on Sunday, threatening US meat supply.

One-fifth of US beef production was wiped out after JBS paused processing at five of its biggest beef plants which manage a total of 22,500 cattle per day.

Kevin McCarthy: Plan to Allow Americans to Sue China for Wrongful Coronavirus Death, Economic Damages Under Consideration

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News exclusively this weekend that he is considering various proposals that would allow Americans to sue the Chinese Communist Party for wrongful death if a loved one died of coronavirus or for damages to their businesses if they suffered due to the pandemic.

The move, which would be enabled either by amending the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act or by passing a statue with a standalone private right of action allowing Americans who lost loved ones to sue China over wrongful death or Americans whose businesses suffered to sue for damages, is under consideration, according to the House GOP leader. Congress previously did something similar for family members of 9/11 victims, allowing them to sue the Saudi Arabian government. That legislation, called the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), sailed through Congress with wide bipartisan support. Former President Barack Obama vetoed the plan in 2016, but Congress days later overrode Obama’s veto, enacting JASTA into law.

Asked on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel whether Congress was considering similar action against the Chinese Communist Party as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, McCarthy said he is definitely open to such an idea and is working with members crafting legislative proposals to that effect.

“This is something I’ve been working with others on and entertaining it and looking toward legislation like that,” McCarthy told Breitbart News.

McCarthy added that the United States has a “responsibility to hold China accountable on this.”

“Why did China stop domestic flights but keep international flights? Why did they influence the World Health Organization to lie to the world? Why did they hoard PPE at a time when they knew what was coming?” McCarthy said. “This is a severe crisis that could have killed millions of Americans. They could have come forward and told us from the very beginning. Now, they don’t want the truth to come out. They fight it.”

He also noted that while there are “many ways” to investigate China and hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable, getting the court system—and American coronavirus pandemic victims engaged in lawsuits—is one way that could be very effective in doing so. He also said he hopes other countries join the push to hold China accountable too.

“I think there are many ways we can get to the bottom of this, but I think one of the ways you seriously can is put the judicial system at work as well too,” McCarthy said. “Let’s get all the information we can and then let’s hold the party responsible for this … accountable for the damage that they’ve done—the lives lost, the businesses collapsed, the children who haven’t been able to be in school, and just life itself, not just in America but around the rest of the world too. Why wouldn’t the other countries around join with us to hold China accountable?”

Earlier in the interview—where McCarthy also called for Dr. Anthony Fauci’s resignation or removal from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)—he specifically mentioned Australia’s push to investigate the origins of the coronavirus and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Senate Passes Sweeping Bill to Address China Tech Threat

The Senate on Tuesday voted 68–32 to approve a sweeping package of legislation intended to boost the country’s ability to compete with Chinese technology, as Congress increasingly seeks to take a tough line against Beijing.

The bipartisan measure authorizes about $190 billion for provisions to strengthen U.S. technology and research—and would separately approve spending about $50 billion to increase U.S. production and research into semiconductors and telecommunications equipment.

The bill must also pass the House of Representatives to be sent to the White House for President Joe Biden to sign into law.

The desire for a hard line in dealings with China is one of the few bipartisan sentiments in the deeply divided U.S. Congress, which is narrowly controlled by Biden’s fellow Democrats.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has said the funding could result in seven to 10 new U.S. semiconductor plants.

Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who co-sponsored the legislation, said the United States spends less than 1 percent of gross domestic product on basic scientific research, less than half of what China does.

“The bipartisan legislation will be the largest investment in scientific research and technological innovation in generations, setting the United States on a path to lead the world in the industries of the future,” Schumer said Monday.

The legislation also seeks to counter Beijing’s growing global influence through diplomacy, by working with allies and increasing U.S. involvement in international organizations.

TORBA: Kushner Wouldn’t Allow Trump on Gab Unless He Banned Criticism of Israel

Andrew Torba revealed that Jared Kushner would not allow President Trump onto Gab unless the free speech platform banned criticism of Jewish people and Israel.

Torba, the CEO of Gab, spoke to Lauren Witzke of TruNews on Tuesday, and discussed his attempts to bring President Trump onto his free speech social network after he was “totally nuked from the entire mainstream internet” in January this year. “All I wanted to do was to give him his voice back, because there’s a hundred million people or more that want to hear what he has to say,” Torba told Witzke, but as previously reported, said that Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and his “cronies” were the ones that blocked access to Gab.

Torba said Kushner and his cronies tried to get Torba to “sell out” and “compromise on Gab’s free speech policies,” suggesting that Gab “clean up [their] image,” before President Trump was allowed on. Witzke queried Torba into exactly what people Kushner wanted banned, and Torba revealed that he “specifically had problems with people criticizing Jewish people and Zionism and policies related to Israel”:

“That’s specifically what I was told, in that you have to do something about these people. He called them Jew-haters, I call them Jew-criticizers,” said Torba. “Some of these people believe that anyone who criticizes or even has remotely any sort of criticism towards Jewish people or towards Israel or towards international policy, is all of a sudden an anti-Semite right, which is totally absurd on its face.”

Alyssa Milano Considering Run for Congress in 2024

Hollywood actress and Democrat Party activist Alyssa Milano is considering a bid for the U.S. House of Representatives in the state of California in 2024.

Milano, a staunch supporter of President Joe Biden, teased her potential campaign in an interview with The Hill published Tuesday.

“I’m looking at California’s 4th District to potentially run against [Rep. Tom] McClintock (R),” she told the D.C.-based news outlet.

“I split my time between Truckee, Calif., and Bell Canyon, Calif., and the Republicans have basically had a strong arm there in the 4th District,” she added.

McClintock won reelection last year with 56 percent of the vote against Democrat challenger Brynne Kennedy.

“It’s going to take someone with, I think, name recognition and deep pockets to be able to run against McClintock, and so I’m considering it. I’m basically gathering information right now, speaking to different consultants, speaking to the community,” Milano said.

“I would love to maybe consider flipping that seat blue,” she added.

McClintock has not publicly weighed in on potentially facing off with the celebrity activist..

Milano, host of the political podcast Sorry not Sorry, has made headlines in recent years for her ardent support for various left-wing causes such as gun control and mas-mail voting. She has also garnered attention for her repeated attacks and conspiracy theories targeting President Donald Trump and his supporters.

In October 2020, Milano claimed that Americans must choose between “America or Trump,” because the country “can’t love both.”

Milano has also taken aim at law enforcement, previously claiming that police exist “to uphold white supremacy.”

“Police exist to uphold white supremacy and have been empowered by laws and the courts to inject themselves into Black life for any reason, no matter how minor, even a dangling air freshener,” she tweeted in April.
