VANCEBURG — Firefighters were on the scene of an overnight sawmill fire at Madden Lumber about eight miles west of Vanceburg on Wednesday.
The fire was reported to dispatchers at 3:57 a.m., Wednesday and three volunteer departments were dispatched.
Those included Tollesboro, Lewis County and Black Oak VFDs.
EMS was on the scene as a precautionary measure.
An area resident heard an “explosion,” thinking it was a collision on Kentucky 9 AA Highway.
They noticed the fire when they looked into the cause of the noise.
The mill and buildings were extensively damaged and the cause remains under investigation.
