Herod was a brutal tyrant. Remember the story of how Herod had all the boys 2 and under murdered in an attempt to destroy Jesus? He did likewise to all the Holy Men of Judea. Killed them and replaced them with his Edomite kin. Edomites are Canaanites and were at war with Jacob/Israel. Jesus was an Israelite of the line of David and an heir to the throne.
The story of Jacob/Israel and Esau/Edom is in Genesis 25 to 27.
In Malachi it is stated, "God hates Esau."
Esau is in rebellion to God and seeks to regain his birthright that Jacob took from him. This is all Biblical.
Esau seeks to regain Dominion.
