Missouri Governor Will Sign Bill Nullifying Federal Gun Laws: Spokeswoman
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson will sign newly passed legislation that would ban state law enforcement agencies from enforcing new federal gun laws following proposed rulemaking from the Biden administration to regulate firearms with stabilizing braces.
According to Parson spokeswoman Kelli Jones, the Republican governor will sign the “Second Amendment Preservation Act,” which says that it is the duty of courts and law enforcement agencies in Missouri to protect the Second Amendment rights of citizens to keep and bear arms. It also declares federal laws that infringe on that right null.
“The Governor is aware of the legal implications of this bill, but also that, now more than ever, we must define a limited role for federal government in order to protect citizen’s rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution,” Jones said in a statement to news outlets on Thursday.
The bill, she said, is about allowing Missourians “to protect themselves and acknowledging the federalist constitutional structure of our government.”
Parson will sign the bill at a shooting range in the Kansas City suburb of Lee’s Summit, reports said.
Gun-control advocacy groups and Democrats criticized the bill, saying it would violate the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause. Democrats have also argued that because Missouri has a relatively high number of shootings and murders, the measure would be dangerous.
“This bill has no benefit, and will interfere with the enforcement of the critical protections that help keep Missourians safe from gun violence,” gun-control group Moms Demand Action spokeswoman Tara Bennett said in a statement after Parson indicated he would support the bill. “There is no doubt this bill should not become law.”
But Republicans in the state legislature said that the federal government will continue to push for more and more gun control measures.

McDonald’s Latest Target Of Customer Data Breach
McDonald’s (MCD) has found itself the victim of hackers that breached the data of some of its U.S., South Korea, and Taiwan network systems – the latest in a string of cyberattacks on global companies.
McDonald’s told The Wall Street Journal on Friday that unauthorized access was cut off a week after it was identified after outside consultants were hired to investigate unauthorized activity to its internal security system.
Hired consultants found that the data had been breached in the U.S., South Korea, and Taiwan, including business contact information for U.S. employees and franchisees, information about restaurant seating capacity, and square footage of play areas, McDonald’s told the WSJ.
While no customer data was breached or sensitive or personal employee data exposed in the U.S., McDonald’s warned about phishing emails.
Customers in South Korea and Taiwan did not fare as well.
Attackers stole customer emails, phone numbers, and addresses for delivery customers in the countries as well as employee information, including their names and contact details, the burger chain told the news outlet.
It was unclear how many customers or employees were affected, but McDonald’s said the number was small. No customer payment information was affected, it said.
McDonald’s also said that that it would be notifying some employees in South Africa and Russa of possible data leaks and has flagged other countries for investigation, according to WSJ.
No ransomware monies were demanded in the attack nor payment made to hackers, McDonald’s said.
McDonald’s is the latest target to be hit by a cyberattack in recent months. Meat company JBS lost control of its data operations to cybercriminals. It paid an $11 million ransom to get it back, while Colonial Pipeline went offline for days after a cyberattack, paying a $15 million ransom.

Porn star Dakota Skye died Wednesday — just weeks after being trolled online over posing topless at a George Floyd mural. She was 27.
The California resident — whose real name was Lauren Kaye Scott — was discovered dead in her Los Angeles motorhome by her unnamed husband, who identified the body to authorities, the Sun reported. The coroner’s office has yet to confirm a cause of the death.
The Tampa Bay, Florida, native, who also performed under the alias “Kota Sky,” faced backlash online over a pic posted to her now-deleted Instagram page. It showed the blond bombshell flashing the camera at the Santa Barbara mural of George Floyd, who was killed by police last year.
According to the Toronto Sun, the one-time Pornhub favorite had posted the scandalous snap May 4 with the caption, “Happy #GeorgeFloyd day in #santabarbara <3 #dakotaskye equality&fair treatment for all. Dope mural.”

Secret planning exercise in 2016 modelled impact of Mers outbreak in UK
Expert says Exercise Alice, one of 10 exercises disclosed under FoI, could have been relevant to Covid response
The government ran an exercise modelling the impact of a coronavirus outbreak four years before the Covid-19 outbreak but tried to keep it secret, the Guardian has learned.
The previously unpublicised Exercise Alice took place in 2016 involving officials from Public Health England (PHE) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and envisioned an outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome (Mers), which is caused by a coronavirus.
It was one of 10 previously unpublicised pandemic planning exercises in the five years before Covid-19, now disclosed under freedom of information legislation. PHE had previously declined to reveal details of the exercises, citing the need to safeguard national security.
A leading virologist said Exercise Alice could have been “completely relevant” to the Covid response, which in the first weeks was shaped by flu pandemic plans. Separately, a senior government adviser on respiratory disease described it as “odd” that details of the exercises had not been provided to key advisory committees.
Last October when the health secretary, Matt Hancock, published a report on Exercise Cygnus, a 2016 flu pandemic scenario, he told parliament: “Exercise Cygnus was not designed to consider other potential pandemics, or to identify what action could be taken to prevent widespread transmission.”
Moosa Qureshi, a hospital consultant who obtained the information, said MPs should ask the health secretary why he “failed to disclose to parliament that the government has modelled multiple other pandemics, including a coronavirus”.

Hancock faces cross-examination by MPs on Thursday who have already heard claims from the prime minister’s former chief adviser Dominic Cummings that assurances he received that pandemic planning was up to date were “completely hollow”.
As recently as March, PHE refused to name the exercises or say what they were about, but it released information when challenged in May by Qureshi.
Other exercises include three on Ebola, four on pandemic influenza, two on Lassa, an acute viral haemorrhagic illness, three on bird flu and one that dealt with a radiation incident, nicknamed Exercise Cerberus.
The public health body is now facing calls to publish the reports on the exercises and share them with experts.
“If there were so many exercises, it’s odd to me that the results were not provided to advisory committees,” said Prof Peter Openshaw, a respiratory physician and mucosal immunologist at Imperial College London who is a member of the government’s Nervtag committee, which advises on new and emerging respiratory virus threats. “I’m surprised not to have seen the results. Openness and disclosure has historically been associated with benefits rather than detriments.”

Controversial Australian businessman Geoffrey Edelsten has died aged 78 in Melbourne.

Born in Carlton to Jewish migrant parents, Mr Edelsten studied at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 1966.
After working as a resident at the Royal Melbourne Hospital he became a GP and, with a colleague, established a practice in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
His open-all-hours medical clinics featured grand pianos and chandeliers in the waiting rooms. Patients, who were bulk-billed, flocked to the clinics.
Mr Edelsten was struck off the NSW medical register in 1988 for over-billing. He was later jailed for paying a hitman to assault a former patient.
Swans' saviour, Edelsten stayed in the spotlight despite bankruptcy
Edelsten became, by his own description, a "white knight" of the Swans in 1985 as they faced dire financial pressure and concerns they couldn't survive.
