We are in the run up to a knowledge explosion. We are already producing new knowledge faster that is can be deployed in technological forms in material reality.
What happens to the excess undeployed knowledge? What happens when v 3.5 exists while 2. 0 waits for 1.0's beta users to have time to adapt to changes?
It's the humans , us, that limit the rate of material world change. If we had a trusted information distribution system, instead of the utterly corrupt internet, things could happen much faster - but would soon still be outstripped by knowledge creation.

The hidden dangers of the internet itself only began to emerge a decade after the technology had been widely adopted and human civilization utterly dependant on and irreversibly committed to a computational future -

The internet has super charged the contagious plague of child pornography, permitted the existence of self validating pedophile support groups, fund raising activity, political lobbying and organizing, and the child trafficking networks. The internet has made hard narcotics, steroids, sex hormones available worldwide to anyone with a mobile device.The anonymous internet is the domain of skin walkers. It incubates every kind of crime and fraud.
Doesn't have to be that way.
An evolution of the internet can be the means of our liberation from material want. It will allow us to provide free education, distribute news that is real and important and true. A secure network can be the foundation not just of technological elaboration, but of a democratic and egalitarian society .
The Indians have addvar network handling 2 billion authenticated users. They use biometrics, but it is now possible to authenticate users by dynamic sampling of text output.
The network is self invigilating.
We talk about this type of change to the internet as if it is optional. That's only polite. The fact is secure networking technology is required to support civilization.
The particular flavor varies in tech specs but secure networking is mandatory, in some form, to support a civilization of autonomous free people living in a non linear future.
Non linear means enormous opportunities and unfamiliar dangers. Existential hazards that grow from very fast to instantaneous and propagate vigorously over insecure information networks. Demons.
If we do not instantiate our rights as specified in the US constitution into the hardened protocols of our network, then those rights will not exist.
