Wayne portrayed Ben Vandervoort, the legendary WWII commander of 2nd Battalion of the 505th, in the 1962 D Day movie The Longest Day.

Today, Col. Lawrence G. Ferguson, the 82nd Airborne Division Deputy Commanding General of Operations was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General by his family. Gen. Richard D. Clarke, the U.S. Special Operations Command Commanding General presided over the ceremony.
