Audio captured emotional conversations between the man, named as “Rich,” and air traffic controllers trying to help him land safely. Authorities said they don’t think he had a pilot’s license and aren’t sure how he was able to take off, much less perform complicated tricks in the air like a “barrel roll.” At one point, Russell told a controller he had played a lot of video games.

 

“Damnit Andrew, people’s lives are at stake here,” Rich said at one point in the audio, which you can listen to later in this article.

“Ah, Rich, don’t say stuff like that,” the controller said.

“I don’t want to hurt no one. I just want you to whisper sweet nothings into my ear,” said Rich, who claimed he could fly the plane because he played video games.'

Officials are analysing the black box of the Seattle plane that was stolen by an airport worker and crashed into an island.

 

The FBI have recovered the flight data recorder of an Horizon Air plane, which was taken by Richard Russell from Seattle airport on Friday night, as well as human remains.

The 29-year-old performed stunts with the plane in a 75-minute "joy ride" flight before it fell through a tree-lined island in Puget Sound, north of Seattle.

 

He is confirmed to have died in the plunge and was the only person aboard the aircraft.

 

Commenting on the discovery of the wreckage, Debra Eckrote of the National Transportation Safety Board said: "You couldn't even tell it was a plane except for some of the bigger sections, like the wing section.

 

"Even the small sections, most of it doesn't resemble a plane," she told CNN.

 

She added the flight data recorder was burned but otherwise intact.
