It's amazing how someone will gladly go to his death while putting his life completely in the hands of the very system that is digging his grave and lowering him into it.

This type of person has allowed himself to become completely brainwashed to the point that he couldn't think his own thoughts even if he wanted to (though he doesn't want to anyway). And so completely submissive to any type of "authority" or "expert" that he would do literally anything an authority commanded him to do.

This may sound extreme, but if you think about it, he is as broken, dehumanized, and detached from reality as a victim that was abducted by a psychotic rapist and kept in a cage in a basement for a decade.

I'm starting to understand why GRRM wrote the "Reek" Theon chapters, which I always hated reading and wondered if they had any point except to horrify and shock the reader.
