An Arizona state Senator has warned US Attorney General Merrick Garland that he'll 'spend time in prison' if he interferes with the 2020 post-election audit, after Garland announced on Friday that the Justice Department will look into whether any federal laws were broken - and claimed the state was employing 'abnormal' methods.

"Some jurisdictions, based on disinformation, have utilized abnormal post-election audit methodologies that may put the integrity of the voting process at risk and undermine public confidence in our democracy," said Garland.

State Rep. Wendy Rogers pushed back, tweeting: "You will not touch Arizona ballots or machines unless you want to spend time in an Arizona prison," adding "Maybe you should focus on stopping terrorism."

The audit, conducted by Senate Republicans and authorized by Senate President Karen Fann, is the country's longest-running active 2020 election review, according to NBC 12.

Garland did allude to a letter to Fann in May from the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.

The letter expressed concern that the audit leader's plan to canvass door-to-door for voter information might amount to voter intimidation.

Fann responded that the plan had been scrapped.

According to Garland, audits like Arizona's will face federal scrutiny, "to ensure they abide by federal statutory requirements to protect election records and avoid the intimidation of voters."

Garland also said the DOJ would "publish guidance explaining the civil and criminal statutes that apply to post-election audits."

Arizona Republican Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward reacted to Garland's warning, tweeting: "Seems Merrick either wants to ignore or forgot all about the US Constitution."

With Biden in UK, 24 MPs Call on Him to Let Assange Go

A group of 24 members of the UK Parliament have written to President Joe Biden, who is at the G7 Summit in Cornwall, asking him to drop the U.S. prosecution of WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange.

Twenty-four members of Parliament have called on President Joe Biden to drop the U.S. pursuit of imprisoned WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange.

A letter from the MPs was sent to Biden on Friday as the president attends the G-7 summit in Cornwall.

It takes aim at Biden’s predecessor for indicting Assange and calls on the president “to drop this prosecution.”

“We hope that your administration will become a staunch ally of all those working to roll back the shadow of criminalisation against journalists,” the letter says, citing the U.S. First Amendment.

The letter points out that as vice president in 2011 Biden opposed Assange’s prosecution. “You, like us, must have been disappointed when your predecessor launched a prosecution carrying a 175-year sentence against a globally renowned publisher,” the MPs wrote.

They told Biden Assange’s case “weakens the right to publish.”

“Our countries are … increasingly confronted with the contradiction of advocating for press freedom abroad while holding Mr. Assange for years in the UK’s most notorious prison at the request of the US government,” the letter says. “We appeal to you to drop this prosecution, an act that would be a clarion call for freedom that would echo around the globe.”

Florida Man ‘Summarily Executes’ Father Of Underage Girl He Was Dating, Sheriff Says

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a homicide investigation in the area of Transport Road and Spruce Road in unincorporated Bartow. Deputies responded to that area Friday morning, June 11, 2021, at around 5:49 AM, in reference to a man being shot.

The victim, a man whose name is not being released due to Marsy’s Law, was found dead inside of a residence.

Deputies made contact with two witnesses at the residence and gathered suspect information. They were able to quickly locate the suspect in a car that was leaving the area, and the vehicle was stopped.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Raul De Alejandro Rodriguez, Jr. who resides at 5316 Kirk Road, Bartow.

Based on evidence and witness statements at this early point in the investigation, De Alejandro Rodriguez was involved in an argument with the victim about the suspect dating the victim’s daughter. De Alejandro Rodriguez then shot the victim with a shotgun and fled the area with the weapon.

When deputies detained De Alejandro Rodriguez, he was in possession of a single shotgun shell in his pocket and another in a bag.

De Alejandro Rodriguez met the victim’s 17-year-old daughter because he was her father’s ‘dope dealer,’ the Sheriff said.

“The responding deputies arrived so quickly that they were able to set-up a tight perimeter and the Aviation Unit easily spotted the suspect trying to get away; he was detained very quickly. Report: Amidst Pandemic, Drug Dealers Moved Online

Just as the legitimate business world has moved its activities online amidst the global coronavirus pandemic, so have Europe's drug traffickers and drug dealers, according to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction’s (EMCDDA) 2021 report.

“Drug production and trafficking appears to have adapted rapidly to pandemic-related restrictions, and we have seen little evidence of any major disruptions in supply,” the document said.

“Social distancing measures may have affected retail drug dealing, but this appears to have led to a greater adoption of new technologies to facilitate drug distribution, possibly accelerating the trend we have seen in recent years, where the market is becoming increasingly digitally enabled,” it said.

Drug traffickers have adapted to travel restrictions and border closures, which led to changes in routes and methods. They now rely more on smuggling via intermodal containers and commercial supply chains, rather than human couriers.

During lockdowns, drug sellers and buyers increased their use of encrypted messaging services, social media applications, online sources and mail and home delivery services, the report said.

There’s no shortage of product for them to move either. Although a record 213 tons of cocaine were seized in 2019, the continent still remained flushed with drugs of high purity or potency.

That’s because European criminal organizations have been intensifying drug production on the continent, in part to avoid new anti-trafficking measures, according to the EMCDDA.

“The increased number of facilities detected and the manufacturing of a wider range of drugs reflect the scaling-up of efforts by criminals to produce drugs closer to consumer markets in in order to evade anti-trafficking measures,” the report said. “This shift brings with it threats to local environments and risks to the health of people using the drugs.”

The EMCDDA also found that European drug traffickers and producers aren’t just dealing old mainstays like cannabis, cocaine and heroin, but that some 400 new psychoactive drugs were discovered on the market in 2019.

“Potent new synthetic cannabinoids and new synthetic opioids continued to emerge, posing health and social threats,” the report said. Most worryingly, they were found to be most prevalent amongst minors aged 15-16.

Other drugs, like methamphetamines, are also growing markets in their traditional territories.

“Use of methamphetamine in Europe has historically been restricted to Czechia, and more recently Slovakia, where it accounts for a large share of drug-related harms,” the EMCDDA explained.

Now, every year smaller and large-scale laboratories are being found in Europe and large quantities of methamphetamine are being transhipped through the EU to other markets, mainly because of collaborations between European and Mexican criminal groups, the report said.

Overall, the continent remains a key market not just for local drug producers but cartels and traffickers from Latin America, North Africa, East Asia and beyond.
