The submarine in "The Hunt for Red October" is a modified Soviet Typhoon-class sub. The actual Typhoons are behemoths, as can be seen in this photo of one passing a beach near Severodvinsk in 2006. Of the 6 Typhoons built, only Dmitriy Donskoi (TK-208) is still active. #SubSunday
